Jim Harbaugh flirting with the Carolina Panthers UPDATE
bythenbrs replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Pie for that turn of a phrase. Just beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye. -
That’s just wrong on so many levels…

Ouch…. But how do you really feel about him? Don’t be diplomatic.

Oops. Thought this was a thread about Corral. My bad.

Kick him upstairs with a fancy new job title and promotion. Happens in the C suite all the time.

Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

Agree with everything you said. The rub is that the list of reasonably priced FA QB’s that might be considered starter worthy is fairly thin. Most would fall into the backup category, which is why they are available FA’s. Unless you want to break the bank for Carr (please, no), we are picking from a pool that is not really that much better than Sam’s most recent body of work. Minshew maybe? Any other budget friendly bridge quarterbacks better than Minshew or Darnold? “We’re back in the tree, again.” Timmy, Jurassic Park -
Piffle. Ours are natural, and everyone knows we are rich and easy… ”I said, I’m drunk, y’all”

Well, we are sitting on a bar stool wearing an unbuttoned blouse, short skirt and fishnet stockings, so ‘hard to get’ is not the look we’re showing here…

Just human nature. Hypothetically, if you have the Owner and HC providing you with their input to not do that trade, you better be damn sure of your job security and your own assessment of the situation before you decline that input.
-
That bad? Ouch!

Along with Tepper, Wilks may have had substantial input into the decision not to do the Burns trade. If anything, I think the incentive would have been for a GM to take that trade, since it was so generous. JMO

Potentially? You mean success is not guaranteed? In case you missed the game, we were exposed at several positions. Too many needs to trade the farm for a player that may or may not be the answer at QB. We are not one player away from the super bowl. Take a shot at Levis or Richardson if you must but we have many more holes to fill without trying to trade up.

Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?

Apparently, the answer WAS on the roster. We just traded him away. SMH -
The letdown is disappointing but it's good for the future

I noticed that, too. Offense got better, defense regressed. And Wilks is a defense guy? -

I don’t think anyone on the board has proposed paying him starter money. Cap friendly back up money only. -

Question wasn’t directed to me but, with no other QB’s on the roster that have shown backup or bridge QB potential, don’t you have to resign Sam to a cap friendly 1 or 2 year contract? If team cuts him, we enter training camp with Corral, a draft pick and what FA QB? Who out there is a better ‘budget friendly’ alternative? Carr? Minshew? -

Not accusing you, for clarification. Some others on this board though… -

I don’t think anyone is arguing Sam is the long term answer. With so many needs exposed, I am in fear of the team making the ill advised San Fran trade, just to get Young or Stroud. We are not a QB away from going deep into the playoffs on a consistent basis. We still need at least one, maybe two more drafts to plug the holes that were glaringly exposed today. Keep Sam, cut Sam, whatever, but for those others arguing to trade up, for the love of all that is holy, NO. -

This was a team loss, full stop. If you believe that Sam was the singular cause for our loss, go ahead and pull the trigger, and trade away a boatload of draft picks for the first or second draft pick. -
Our offer? Brian Burns, straight up…
