How does the Wilson trade, effect the Panthers draft?
davos replied to Admiral Ackbar's topic in Carolina Panthers
It really seems we’ve always had Watson in mind and never deterred. Everything else has been bailout second ditch effort moves. If it’s true, I find it strange to be so intent on him. -

This is 2023 chess right now. SEA is the first to ammo up. We still don’t seem in that mindset. -

Could see Seattle go young now that they have Drew Lock as a backup/bridge. They don’t really have a good core right now. Wagner is getting old. I will say after Penny finally showed up, him Fant, and Metcalf are about it. Bad OL, a trending down defense. I can see them positioning for Bryce/Stroud/Haener. Something I see a few typically good teams doing that suddenly have QB vacancies. -

Yep, agreed. Something I liked from the Athletic pod last week is that a 1st rounder needs to be a top-12 at their position within their rookie contract. And to that point, the first round isn’t all hits but the higher up, the better the rate. So yeah, I don’t think dropping past the mid teens is really to our benefit. You don’t trade down so far with a hope one of three guys is there. A reach isn’t always a bad thing. That’s what many would have called a Slater pick last year. Sometimes your need and a perceived reach can actually land you exactly the guy you’re looking for.

Have an indirect way of explaining the source?

For 2022: -mediocre cheap FA backup to the Darnold tank commander (Mullens/Dalton) or a 3rd-5th rounder IE Zappe/Glass) -#6 OL or Garrett Wilson -minimum 1-2 more OLs in draft -minimum 1 FA OL signing (proven starter for once) 2023: Jake Haener or CJ Stroud

These were the two contracts that were mentioned before to being ideal for restructuring. Not really a surprise. They want cap to overpay—I mean outbid for guys they want.

There’s always those dudes that end up high first that we all project mid or late first with trade down scenarios. Penning could be that this year.

YGM needs to develop into a 3-down DE. He's an asset in run-D and would compliment Burns well if he breaks out this season. His pressure % was super good and was always digging into lines. Those 2 with Fox rotating in and playing 1 tech sometimes is fine. Brown is in a big year for 2022. He needs to become a leader for Roy, Nixon and co. Luuvu may be a rare diamond in the rough find with this awful regime.

I kind of want to see what the huddle thinks if this happens..

Being a bad scheme requires us to have a scheme lol. I don't even think Rhule really has an "offense". -
If he is 10 mil+, hell no. I'm starting to lean towards the Darnold disaster train 2022 and to simply grab a cheap Hoyer-esque option as a tank commander backup. Just use the cash somewhere else to help with a longer term contract, not this fool. (Apparently the Rogers bit is showing, not the Mitch part--but he's supposedly garnering interest and will be upwards toward 10 mil)

Chinn & Horn are the only Rhule brought in pieces I’d still want to keep. That’s about it. They can blow up the rest, sure. It’s not like they know what they want on offense or defense anyways. Just bs artists with no true scheme.
