Yep. There's definitely a dance of Need v. BPA being made with every pick. It's a gray area because sometimes, the talent warrants the pick, regardless of what's on the roster. Draft is gon' be fun this year. I'm excited.
-
I think it has to do with him being hyped since his junior year of HS. He's been groomed as an NFL QB even moreso than Lawrence. Doesn't mean he pans out, but explains the hype. I mean, people were talking Fields/Lawrence in 2019. It finally culminates this week. Been a long time coming.
-
I mean, if you're looking at the position being picked relative to the timing of the pick in a team's rebuild then I guess I see where you're coming..maybe. But if you come across the QB you want, you take him and don't talk yourself out of it because of a predetermined order of things in respect to acquiring players at certain positions. I actually don't think we'll pick one but you get what I'm saying right?
-
I disagree. Look at your stance from a different lens: What if Darnold ends up sucking and Fields or Lance were there for us to take and turn out great. Well then, we just lost out on the most important position because we got cute to pick need over BPA. Yay we have an LT, and yay, we still suck. It wouldn't be a dumb move, it's the simple notion of taking the guy we covet if he's there at 8. That may be a QB.

What Are the Chances of Sewell Actually Dropping to us?
davos replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s up to the Bengals and Lions. -
Typically a reverse show. Some years, the fit is obious like Brown & Star. Others, I dunno. Some teams will visit/interview with guys they were on the fence about and we don't know how those go. They may have already said yes to others and want to interview those who they still have questions about. Then, when the word of those get out, people deem it interest, when it's really due diligence. Hence why I hold firm on Slater, Devonta, Jaycee & Fields. One of them is the ticket if Pitts, Sewell, or Chase isn't there.

LTs & arm length (basically: This draft's OTs are great but...)
davos replied to saX man's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thread is strange; but not bc of the sax dude. Which is a first. But @sax you should probably give it up, people are taking it as you saying arm length is a tell all, when you're clearly saying otherwise. I'm confused...so support pantherclaw's post -
A random/almost done draft: I REALLY like Darrisaw and thought of a trade-down scenario w/NE. We net a G/C in the 3rd with it.
-
Haha. In looking back, I tend to get DLs, LBs, and WRs right NFL success wise. I'm the worst at RB, TE, & S Funny thing is I played TE and S. But I also sucked at football and stuck with golf. So there's that lol.

Got a source? Not questioning just interested bc I havn't heard that.

Beach being my old username...and a "bikini mock draft" isn't a thing, it's just me making an SI style exhibit with an actual mock. You can be so tiring lol.
-
Although the old photos don't stick and my predictions haven't either lol:
-
Hehe. I've done my Son of a Beach the last 5 years with the bikini mock draft, figured someone would catch on by now, but alas lol.

Forgive the formatting, had this drafted up in google drive, tried to make it all autocolor/autosize

2021 Son of a Beach “What matters is how they fit our team” -Scott Fitterer My Draft Predictions: 1-JAX: Trevor Lawrence QB 2-NYJ: Zach Wilson QB 3-SF: Mac Jones QB 4-ATL: Kyle Pitts TE - They’re bluffing on both trading the pick & QBs. They pick a potential star. 5-CIN: Penei Sewell LT Oregon - The pressure to take Sewell will outweigh getting Burrow his buddy in Chase. Chase could very well happen but I’m favoring Sewell. 6-MIA: Ja’Maar Chase WR LSU - Tua needs someone to make his job easier; they’ve got a young LT and Chase is 2nd on their board. They traded back up for either Pitts or Jamaar. 7-DEN (from DET): Justin Fields QB OSU - They don’t want to risk a NE or CHI trade up. Or us taking BPA. They leap two to get Fields. With the #8 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers select: Round 1: Rashawn Slater LT Northwestern I imagine we’d get calls for Lance here, and they may have some pretty tantalizing picks involved that could be high up in 2022. Tough choice, but I stay put and take Slater. He also just feels like the pick this year. Intuition. Gut feeling. Lance is a maybe here, close 2nd along with a trade down w/ NE. This man contained Chase Young handedly. Secure the uglies. Some more predictions: 9-DET (from DEN): Devonta Smith WR Alabama - They’ve now gained picks and now do what they can to make Goff succeed. Invested in D last year. Time for them to finally build a team. 10-NE (Trade w/DAL): Trey Lance NDSU - Yes, he falls a tad. There’s just too many unknowns as grand of a ceiling he might have. I think there was such a microscope by us and other teams because of just that. Not just interest but they needed to meet and see what this kid had in person. I can see them trading with one of the NFCE teams to ensure this with their buttload of 4th rounders, or maybe even us and add on a 2022 1st. 11-NYG: Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama - They could use adding another weapon to give one long final look at Daniel Jones. 12-PHI: Jaycee Horn CB USC - HUGE need, it would be hard to pass on Horn 13-LAC: Christian Darrisaw LT Virginia Tech - This is a big need and I can see LAC easily going this route after landing their QB last season. 14-MIN: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah - Pass rush needs to get addressed up there 15-DAL (from NE): Patrick Surtain CB - Would be a great get after a trade down Back to the Panthers... Round 2: Richie Grant S/CB UCF 6’0 197 I really want more weapons for Darnold as much as line help but Grant could provide excellent value. Yes, I’m going along with a popular choice here because of how highly Rhule spoke of him, but he’s really damn promising. And we’re rumored to be quite interested. Could be a slight R2 trade up. Why I like him: Quickness to diagnose & lead a defense (LB mentality), timing, lateral quickness, and versatility. Round 3: Paulson Adebo OCB Stanford 6’1 190 Secondary double down, maybe a slight trade-up. I’m not jumping up and down over Bouye and Pride isn’t a for-sure (as much as I’m rooting for him). I want a tougher, more rounded, physical talent to compliment what we have in Donte. In addition, we value dynamic/versatile types and that’s what Adebo is. He seems like a talent to seek out and put on the outside. This could really round out our defensive backfield. "Physical, long and he is going to test well. For how we would use him, I think he's one of the best fits for us in the draft. I don't see any way he gets out of the second round." -- National scout Round 4: Amari Rodgers WR Clemson 5’10 212 I’ve liked Amari for some time and think he’s flown under the radar. Has my favorite combo package in a smaller WR: acceleration to top speed, strength, and overly competitive. Would fill in Samuel's role and offer some pretty dynamic sets for Brady with CMC, DJ, Robbie & Arnold. The rest: LOAD UP ON THE LINES. Maybe target a LB & RB (or) look for the better UDFAs at those spots. I'm game for 2 more G/T/Cs to round out the draft. Let's see who we can get. There's talent at those spots in the mid to late rounds. My Overall Outlook: The lowdown, and how I'd like to see us build this team: Smart, tough, dynamic players. Slater, Grant, Adebo, & Rogers all fit that bill. Rhule has said it plenty and I think these guys fit the team we're trying to build. I would also love us to get a new playmaker in this draft and finally just get some tough mother f*ckers in the secondary. That was how I attacked it. Fits, a bit of need, and the athletic/tough combo.

Some tidbits from the link below: The 49ers decision will predicate the Falcons. Wonder if they prefer Lance or Mac? Xavien Howard is in trade talks? Speculation The Pats, Bears, and WFT still rumored to move up (9-10 range? Is that a CAR trade partner?) Could definitely see a DEN jump ahead of us if the last bullet point is the case. Maybe a 7 & 9 swap for Fields. DET would still land a top WR (Smith or Waddle) https://phinphanatic.com/2021/04/26/miami-dolphins-among-hottest-nfl-draft-rumors-whats-going/

The “Deep OT class” may not be as deep at LT in scouts eyes
davos replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
There’s really good linemen in this draft, probably about 7-9 after Slater and Sewell in the top-40. Thing is, a lot are just a tad undersized for LT. Sewell and Slater are, then Radunz, Cosmi, Mayfield, etc. Darrisaw and Eichenberg have the size. -
From the pre-draft Rhule/Fitterer, There is but 1 Question to answer:

Shine on you Ctazy Diamond 6-9 by Floyd. Most timeless song on the most timeless album of all time. And my personal fave. -
WRs in the 20s could become a thing. RBs in the singles.
-
Last year’s draft which in large part seemed to come down to Rhule’s say based on Marty and his staff’s scouting was pretty good. The rest, yep we missed out on some really good talent and landed some busts. To a new era!

No Pitts? Slater gone? Pene off the board?

Teddy hasn't reached out to Sam yet following the trade
davos replied to JABANOG's topic in Carolina Panthers
We had so much to be excited about with a new coach, Brady’s offense, the exciting young D and he really muted it all. 2-14 was hilariously bad plus had funny storylines and 1-15 was strangely a competitive team. Teddy just sank the energy out of games. Sometimes the dink and dunk guys are tainted by bad OLs but that’s who Teddy is and it made games painful to watch. He just doesn’t command games and can’t press the gas. -
