Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade
Mr. Scot replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Was dating this girl many years ago, went to meet her parents for the first time. They invited me to have dinner at their house. Playing in the background on their living room TV? That movie. Right as dinner is being served...that scene. Yikes! -
Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade
Mr. Scot replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
"...just not at our practice facility" Ouch... And yeah, if I'm the Seahawks I probably am taking a look at just how little it took to trade for him and wondering "what if". I mean...Geno Smith? Drew Lock? Oy! -
On that front, here's a "string theory" type observation... Let's say Rhule is fired. THE OL coach for the Browns over Mayfield's last two seasons was Bill Callahan. Callahan's son Brian is said to have a good chance at becoming an NFL head coach in the coming years. Mind you, there's no guarantee Mayfield stays here beyond this season. Nor is it known what type of relationship he and Callahan have... ...but hey, it's a thought
-
Maybe he feels it?

Williams had been on board with trading for Mayfield pretty much from the get-go...

What's the reaction when the Browns sign Cam Newton?
Mr. Scot replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Side Note: Outside of Mayfield trading something to Johnny Hekker for number 6, they are only two potential "quarterback" numbers currently available on the roster. One of them is #13. The other...is #1 -

Ellis weighs in... -
I mean realistically, even if Mayfield doesn't turn out to be great, it's not like we gave up a lot to get him. Hell, we gave up less for Mayfield than we did for Sam Darnold or even Matt Corral.
-
On the flipside... Damn Feel like it wasn't that long ago that everybody was singing Andrew Berry's praises...

Sometimes I wonder if it's worse to have a mix of competent and incompetent team leadership rather than just incompetence all around. The hard part when you've got a mix is sometimes it's tough to tell where the incompetence lies.

Was that under Mornhinweg? I know it wasn't Wayne Fontes. -
Has been for as long as he's been on here
-
Consistent pattern: He swore the Texans would never trade Watson and they'd make him play too.
-
I don't think it was done for the long term. The guy who currently holds the ultimate sign off power isn't necessarily assured that he has a long-term.
-
Wasn't that long ago, really... What made it stick out in my mind though was that he found some no-name reporter and tried to build them up as if they were a better source than established writers like Mary Kay Cabot and Tony Grossi

I'm not a real big fan of one year rentals, but for a conditional fourth / fifth rounder two years from now, throwing in that his old team pays the majority of his salary? That's not a bad deal at all.

Anish Shroff brought up the possibility while talking to Ellis. Barring injury, Florio doesn't think he winds up anywhere. Not sure I buy the idea that nobody will sign him, but I'd agree the doorway back to the Panthers locker room is probably closed...and likely for good. Seattle was the only other team reported to have shown interest thus far, but that could change. -
You predicted the Browns wouldn't trade Mayfield and cited a no-name writer (probably about the only guy you could find who agreed) as if it bolstered your argument. As for Garoppolo, the Panthers didn't want him. Heck, he might now end up in Cleveland.

Took some time to look up some other clips of Mayfield for analysis, both positive and negative. What I saw: First off, his physical tools are on par with anybody, arm strength in particular; Mayfield can sling it, he can zip it, and he can run it, all very effectively; and his accuracy looks to be above average... You see an awful lot of Brett Favre in him (both the good and the bad), especially when you watch big games, but I think overall he might be a little more accurate than Favre... Also like Favre, Juevos Grandes for certain; he seems to fear nothing and trusts in himself thoroughly; again though, as it was with Favre, that can come back to bite him sometimes... Passing mechanics are generally on point, even throwing on the run; he does throw on the run a fair amount but does a better job setting his feet than Darnold when he doesn't... Regarding his interceptions: The majority seem to be overthrows, but honestly those don't concern me as much as the several I saw where he seemed to have just not seen the defender at all; that, unfortunately, reminds me of Darnold... There were also miscommunications, balls he shouldn't have thrown, etc; overall I'd say a decent balance of forgivable and unforgivable, but more of the unforgivable variety than I would have liked... And one kinda weird thing: he double (and triple, and quadruple) clutches as much as (possibly more than) any quarterback I've ever watched; saw this happen on a boatload of plays... Overall? Yeah, he's good, but occasionally like his passes, a little undisciplined. That part of his game needs work.

Is Baker Mayfield the second best QB in the NFC South?
Mr. Scot replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
It always depends on which version of Winston shows up. Side Note: Regarding Newton... -
Marty did, yeah.
