There are going to be people who will think they know all there is to know based on today's game. These people...are not very smart. Football seasons are marathons where numerous things happen, things go right, things go wrong, and it hardly ever looks the same by season's end. You can hope that most people exercise their wisdom and patience, but you can also pretty much guarantee that a lot of people won't.

Things you see in preseason are never as obvious as you think they are. Heck, Cam Erving actually looked half decent in preseason action. Does that mean we were wrong about him or was it just an illusion? Like I said, we don't know. We'll at least know something later today, but we won't know everything.

Previous reports said three first rounders and a couple of second rounders.

Again, not really. We have things we think we know, but until we see the real action we can't genuinely say we know.

I acknowledge that, hence why I say all the questions won't be answered today. But again, the good news is that we actually have something real.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. If that's the case, it often means you're drafting well.

To be fair, Rivera was just bad at evaluations in general. I've said before I don't have a problem with taking time to ease lower round / undrafted rookies into the pros. You just have to be able to properly judge when they're ready.

I'm not that bothered by it, but I'm a little surprised they waited to do it right before game one.

I'm liking Alex Smith on ESPN so far.

Not really. Closest one is probably Shi Smith, who we had high hopes for as a return guy. Some had similar feelings about Deonte Brown. We come into this game pretty healthy so nothing is too unexpected. (here's hoping we also leave the game that way)

Dude... I said a little while back I think Rhule might be somewhat similar to Rivera in the way that he treats lower-round rookies. I'm just hoping he does a better job of seeing when they're ready.

Time for the speculation, the theories and the guessing to be set aside. Now, we see some real football. No, every question won't be answered today, but at least we'll have some real results to judge by. I'm ready.

Jordan just got here. Expecting him to be ready this soon would be a lot to ask.

Not contrarian at all...just cautious. I grant the drafts look nice so far, but I also remember Keary Colbert looking pretty good as a rookie too. Will any of our current guys be like that? Don't think so, but you never know. Dont take it as a downer though. There's plenty of reasons to be optimistic It's just my nature to be a "wait and see" guy.
