There was a lot not to like about Ron rivera, but one of the things I did like is he generally found a good balance between letting guys express their personalities and coaching against stupid penalties. I know that became a major emphasis after we lost that playoff game to the 49ers in part because we did some dumb things.

Darnold bashing aside, yes he would still be the best choice for our backup if you're going by performance. If your priority is cap space, then you could go with Walker but you'd still have to find some way to get another team to take on some of Darnold's salary. Pretty much nobody thinks that's happening.

Not really an anger thing, just a logic thing... Until the coach actually declares a starter, why shouldn't Darnold still look at it as a competition?

Brady was reported to have pushed for him since he had him at LSU. Normally I'd agree with listening to coaches when it comes to the draft but sometimes it's a bad idea.

Concern there is that Horn is known as kind of a "handsy" guy. Full disclosure though: I'm not a huge fan of that particular emphasis anyway.

Part of me wonders if this year's "enforcement emphasis" would ruin that play in a regular season setting.

No issue with any of that. Just don't take stupid penalties. Dirty teams will try to goad you into doing things that hurt you more than they help. 49ers did it to us in the playoffs some years back (Rivera was livid).

Noticed this skinny kid jump out of the stands when the fight starts. Can't help wondering if he's just looking to get a better view or if he thinks he's gonna do something
