Odd, but not sure what to make it. -

Yeah. Josh Klein confirmed it. -

Yes he is, but Rapoport's comments were only speculation. Sources have confirmed the call in question did occur. The question now is whether anything meaningful comes of it. Rapoport believes nothing will, and he could be right. It's not guaranteed though. -
Is he better than Cross, though?

Panthers Vet QB options: A snip from the athletic
Mr. Scot replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Update: It's from Florio... From the article: The Dolphins would have traded for Watson in 2021 if the 22 lawsuits had been settled. Ultimately only 18 could have been resolved. The Panthers would have traded for Watson with the criminal and civil matters pending. Watson, however, didn’t want to play for the Panthers. -
It's fair to point out that Matt Rhule does.

If we took a tackle at six, I'd expect it to be Cross. Granted, a lot can change between now and draft day.

After listening to the segment, I'd stop short of saying he completely shut it down. More so that he personally believes it won't happen. -

If she's referring to a recent news item or tweet, I haven't seen it. -
#6. Trevor Penning : Northern Iowa · OT · Senior (RS) The Panthers are desperate for O-line help. This is a little early for Penning, but he has guard/tackle flexibility and he'll start from Day 1 in Carolina. __________________________ Jeremiah has Charles Cross going to the Raiders at 22. Kenny Pickett goes to the Saints at 18, Malik Willis to the Steelers at 20 and Tyler Linderbaum to the Titans at 26. Sam Howell and Matt Corral drop out of the first. Right position, but the right player?

Funny that, If that's what Marty had in mind, he never put Beane in a personnel role. Guess who did. Carolina Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman and his assistant Brandon Beane spent more time together over the past four years than with anyone other than their wives. And maybe not them, either. Gettleman would watch video with Beane long past bankers’ hours, evaluate prospects with him and sit next to him in the press box on Sundays, grooming Beane to someday become an NFL general manager. Beane’s training camp internship in the public relations department led to a full-time position in football operations, where Beane’s duties included picking players up at the airport, setting up travel arrangements and anything asked of him. Former GM Marty Hurney promoted Beane to football operations director in 2008. Four years later, Beane took over as interim GM for the final 10 games after Hurney resigned. Beane had experience managing the salary cap, but hadn’t done a ton of scouting early in his career. But he started going on the road to scout college games when he was interim GM, a practice he continued after Gettleman was hired (Beane was the only in-house candidate to interview). Beane further honed his scouting chops under Gettleman, whose affinity for film-study is as well known as his love of minivans and bagels. Gettleman and Beane would watch video of every play from every Panthers game, as well as most of the plays of free agents Carolina was considering. Gettleman says Beane was an eager film critic. “I spent a lot of time with him watching film and teaching and doing those kind of things. And Brandon’s a sponge. He really listens. He’s very diligent. He works at it,” Gettleman said during a phone interview. “The only way you’re going to improve your evaluation skills is just grind tape. ... It was his willingness to listen and learn that really accelerated his progress in terms of becoming a general manager.” Beane was promoted to assistant GM in 2015, and his name started popping up in discussions of up-and-coming front office executives. Joe Person: Late nights with Dave Gettleman prepared Brandon Beane for Buffalo GM job See, Marty never could have passed down film watching and evaluation skills to Beane or anybody else because he didn't have them. Marty was never a scout. But like many under Jerry Richardson, he got promoted to a job he didn't deserve because he was loyal. So unless you believe it's possible to teach somebody something you don't know how to do yourself, well...

Beane wasn't Marty's "protege". He was still working in operations and logistics in 2012 when Marty was fired. It wasn't until 2015 that he was promoted to assistant GM by Dave Gettleman. Two years later, he got the Bills job.

Hurney "2.0" only encompassed three drafts: 2018, 2019 and 2020. And no, the 2018 didn't have enough value to redeem the others.

No, it's not.

I would love to have Josh McCown on the Panthers staff as an assistant quarterback coach, an offensive assistant or something like that. (Steve Smith would too)

Panthers Vet QB options: A snip from the athletic

I'd be okay with it. Kinda think Matt Rhule might not wholly agree with that approach, though. -

FYI on Watson... From the article: The presiding judge found a middle ground. For those plaintiffs who have filed criminal complaints, Watson will testify after April 1. For all other plaintiffs, he’ll testify when Hardin is available. (Hardin currently is handling a trial in a different case.) That’s not ideal for Watson. The things he says while being questioned in the cases filed by plaintiffs who haven’t made criminal complaints could be used by the prosecutor in the other cases, if the prosecutor so chooses. Moreover, Watson’s testimony could prompt the prosecutor to exercise the broad discretion inherent to the job in a way that results in an attempt to secure an indictment on one or more felony charges. The timeline also makes it harder to trade Watson before other teams begin making decisions about who their quarterbacks will be for 2022. The best seats could be filled before the criminal process ends. There’s one more important point to keep in mind. Watson doesn’t have to settle all of the cases at the same time. He could try to settle the cases that don’t include criminal complaints, if he wants. However, Buzbee and his clients now have even more leverage, since settlement of those claims becomes the ticket to delaying being questioned under oath until April 1, at the earliest. -

For the record, Josh Klein confirmed that the story of the Panthers calling the Vikings to ask about Cousins is true. -

I've generally put Stafford and Cousins in the same tier of QB. Stafford has elevated himself. Don't know if Cousins will but if we get him, I hope so. -
