  1. The Brady comparison is always a terrible comparison. Name another Brady like result with relatively average/above average skill set? Outliers don't define smart moves. The league has made a move towards guys that are more mobile and have elite skills because it makes your offense so much harder to defend. Jones had very little in the way of elite skill sets. If he DOES have elite processing, that helps a lot. However, he needs things to go right around him to help him be successful(and yes this could be said of many QB's). Not having an elite arm or being an elite athlete is always going to make you have to work harder to be successful. Where Lawrence, Fields, Lance or Wilson might be able to throw lasers into windows, Jones isn't going to be able to do that. Where the play breaks down and you need an off platform throw, Wilson can make that. Lance and Fields can punish you scrambling. The is the problem with the low ceiling guys, they have to really work hard to achieve an edge. Jones has to be willing to do that. Guys like Brady or Brees don't come around often. Hell, if Bledsoe doesn't get injured, there may be no Tom Brady story. If San Diego doesn't draft Rivers, there may be no Drew Brees story.
  2. I am way off on what we should pay him? Absolutely not. He may get that, I just hope we aren't the dumb franchise that does it. He has one more NFL stop where people see "potential." After that he will just be what he has been, not an NFL caliber starting QB. Basically the same thing Teddy was for us in a different form. People like to quote the Tannehill scenario but that is a big outlier. There are way more guys that got a big contract to be the guy and ended up being backup/journeyman QB's(Foles, Flacco, Bradford, Glennon, Teddy, Cassell, etc). There are even more guys that were ruined after they were initially a bust with the team that drafted them in the top 10. Those are two big examples of why you don't want to gamble big on a reclamation project. They very, very, very rarely pan out. Especially with a guy like Trubisky who, although clearly talented, has never shown any ability to be consistent nor really improve. I'd love to have him as an upgrade over Walker or Grier as our backup but I am not going to pay Taysom Hill money for a backup.
  3. In fairness, we could end up being wrong on our takes of this....but this just seems so disturbingly familiar.
  4. Pretty sure Moton has been playing at Moton his entire life.
  5. GoOd ThInG wE hAvE a Rb AnD lB uNdEr CoNtRaCt!
  6. Scott, Little and Daley at LT made me puke in my mouth a little. Okay, a lot.
  7. I would not want to pay him $8.3 mil. At that rate, let him go elsewhere. I was thinking more in the $4-5 mil range.
  8. What is the best way to remedy the mistakes of the past? Panthers: Double down!!!!
  9. I think it is entirely possible Trubisky would be the 6th or 7th best QB in this draft class. You have to remember that not only was he vastly over drafted by Chicago but at the time that was considered a very, very, very weak QB draft class. Now, in hindsight, it had two of the biggest stars in the NFL at QB but I don't remember many getting excited about Mahomes as a prospect and Watson wasn't considered a very high caliber QB prospect either.
  10. Minshew is just flat out a better player.
  11. His drafting was not consistent and sometimes very bad. Reference the rest of his drafts aside from 2017. He only looks good because of the large swath of time that Hurney was crushing the first round and basically little else. Gettleman's dumpster diving early on netted some great results. I always felt like he got a little overconfident with that. Then he made aeguably the worst free agency signing in franchise history in Matt Kalil. To me, after the suspect drafts, that was the final straw in his coffin.
  12. Jones isn't Teddy. Teddy is actually more NFL skilled than Jones is(stronger arm, far better athlete). Teddy just can't get out of his own way. Dalton is a better comparison and I just can't see the justification for taking Andy Dalton at 8. I'd rather gamble bigger on an upper half of the NFL QB. That is no slight to Dalton's NFL career, but we are looking for a franchise QB and Dalton really wasn't. Ironically, the Bengals ended up drafting a guy that is pretty similar to Andy Dalton.
  13. I don't think anyone knows yet. Undoubtedly Curtis will test the market but we don't know how hot of a commodity he will be.
  14. There is an awful lot of stupid in this thread so it is nice to see some reason. Trubisky is basically in the "only a little better than Teddy" category. That said, he needs to come cheaply. Anything that isn't cheap or is more than 2 years is just repeating the mistakes of last offseason. Sign him to a reasonable backup QB contract, as that is what he actually is.
  15. Oh well. We have a nice run against the bottom half of the division the rest of the month, so we will have ample opportunities to push Tampa. We just need to keep taking care of business and we can take this division.
  16. The workouts are basically to get numbers on guys and see if they are capable of not shitting the bed under the lights. But the pro day's have the least value of any event. It's all scripted and in a comfortable setting for these players.
  17. We are significantly jumping the shark on this take. CMC is an elite player on pace for a HOF caliber career.....however he also spent the last year banged up and is playing one of the shortest average career length positions. There is no question he is capable of being an all time Panther great. Samuel had a great year but let's not forget he has also been a one year wonder. If he ascends to being a #1 or #2 WR somewhere else or becomes a consistent producer for another 5-8 years, he is a HR pick. But we are also forgetting his rather forgettable career prior to his contract year. Taylor Moton is a stud. Not much argument from me, as he is probably one of the top 5-6 OL we have ever drafted. But, still need to see him continue to play that way for another few years. Hall was a bust. Elder has had one year of decent nickel production, so let's not get too carried away yet. Alex Armah is a very good pick for what he is. Butker appears to be a great pick. If he continues to play well, he may be our best 7th round selection in franchise history. If that happens, plenty of credit will be issued for hitting that big of a HR that late in the draft.
  18. In fairness to him, that was before Hurney was canned, correct?
  19. In fairness he is the third guy I have heard give Lance a second round grade. I don't think that is super far fetched. I just think be will still go in the top 10.
  20. So he basically got his money finally and then rested on laurels. #HurneyMagic
  21. Zero chance they find a backup QB of that quality and that cheap
  22. Sort of like the classic NBA prospect cycle. The longer you stick around the less they see "potential" and the more they start seeing problems.
