It’s not hard. Ron - good NFL coach Fox - good NFL coach Rhule - joke NFL coach that’s based on their peers. Other NFL coaches. You want a great coach. HOF caliber isn’t even something you bother thinking about.
-
Again, you called it a no brainer pick for Ron. Newton wasn’t viewed like that coming out. Cam Newton was viewed as a risky gamble. so yeah, it’s relevant that folks didn’t view him as the #1 overall guy until they simply knew we were going to make it so. saying QB is always a gamble doesn’t mean Cam and Luck/Trevor were viewed as comparable risks.
-
Folks weren’t mocking Cam to us either at first. It was a DT as the consensus #1. Cam wasn’t even being mocked into the top 10 at first by most. Once our intentions became known they moved Cam up in mocks because it became common knowledge we were going with the unsafe/high reward route. Cam wasn’t a Luck or Trevor coming out. Calling it obvious it is just hindsight of a gamble that worked out. It was a bold move by Carolina. Cam also had drama. College scandal. Zone read runner. He wasn’t a safe easy pick for the #1 overall pick. That’s revisionist history to remove any credit from Ron could have

Cam Newton wasn’t Andrew Luck. He wasn’t the consensus easy pick or obvious. He was considered a risky gamble. Especially at #1 overall. Players have made just about every good coach the NFL has ever seen. and Fox had more Panther greats than Ron.
-
Rivera is presently only 5 games under .500 as a NFL coach without Cam Newton as his starting QB. Yeah, Ron is an old school defensive coach. It's not my preferred coaching style in the modern NFL. But Ron was still a good coach. Two different things.
-
Nah, Cam wouldn’t of been special on a lot of teams. They wouldn’t of ran him like we did. They wouldn’t of brought in the college scheme. GM was a bigger problem than HC IMO. Ron was a good HC. Roster around Cam was the biggest sin.
-
Ron used Cam exactly how he should of been used. Panthers simply should of added better players around him IMO. That's always been my take. And using Cam how we did was always my condition if we drafted him. Let Cam be special. Ron allowed it. Few coaches would have.
-
Cam wouldn't have been successful with all 31 other franchises. I doubt Cam would have seen the success he had with the overwhelming majority of them. The Ron and Cam marriage worked. Ron gets some credit there...but people here give him none. Ron is a good coach. He just wasn't a great one. And I said it when he left, it's easier to do worse than Ron. Hard to do better.

Ron had a winning record here. And he still has an overall winning record despite losing in Washington to date. Ron gets too much hate. His window here simply closed. That's coaching.

Allbright: Eagles OC Shane Steichen is the hottest HC candidate out there
CRA replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d say a lot of that is talent around the QB. Kennan Allen and Mike Williams are hurt AJ Brown and DeVanta Smith have been healthy -
Raiders will win some games down the stretch. they got a the best # 1 WR on the game paired with the best slot WR in the game IMO and a decent RB and QB. Ball will bounce there way a couple times. Broncos, Seahawks, Steelers, Rams, Patriots all remain.
-
That’s how people justified signing both Double Trouble to big deals though. age is age at RB IMO. You can luck into a freak that defies it but IMO that has little to do with touches. Frank Gore didn’t go forever because of lack of touches. He was just an odd duck and saw that coming in.

I say yes . Foreman will be 27 next year. And is a bruising runner. It’s a young man’s game. we don’t need to spend a high pick on a committee RB. And you can find legit runners in rounds 3, 4 and 5.
-
I would just look for a younger version of Foreman. RBs grow on trees. Rather have a young bruiser in the committee than a 27 year old.

Smith: "Evan Cooper wasn't qualified to have a job"

Not getting into the actual argument itself….but being in or not in the HOF has nothing to do with a person being shitty or not. there are horrible people in the HOF. there are horrible people in every sports HOF. There are horrible people every niche and breakdown of people you can name. -
I'm just trying to decide if I should start Foreman in fantasy. If I do, I'm watching the game. If I don't....I probably will just check the score. There is no way what occurs tonight will be good football.

Is Burns really worth backing up a Brinks truck?
CRA replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
No. He isn't. and we have fallen into that trap before. The but we have to overpay him because what would life be like with out him. We don't have anything. You can go out and rent a one dimensional pass rusher if you need one. -
Cam only had 2 OCs really when healthy. Chud and Shula. Mike Shula was with Cam from 2011 to 2017. Shula pretty much kept a lot of what Chud was doing too when he left. I’m not part of the group that claims we shouldn’t of ran Cam. I was only cool drafting him if we used him how we used him overall. It wasn’t perfect but I think it is overplayed that we didn’t use Cam right. We used him the only way he was going to be special and he was. It was a fun ride until he got hurt. Lot of OCs wouldn’t of let Cam be special. Ron’s guys did. *and his injuries had nothing to do with running. Mike Shula era with Cam is the best window of Panther football in our history. I also think Chud is no better an OC than Shula. He just got the luxury of Cam making him look good because the league had no clue what to do with Cam at first. I don’t think OC was the biggest issue nor running Cam. Think it was merely the front office not putting the bodies on the field if I was ranking all the issues.

The key to tanking is Ben McAdoo and our playcalling. We need Ben to be Ben. And not have random games where he calls games where we are a rushing team that passes off it. He accidentally does that on occasion. What we need to tank is for Foreman to have just 3 carrys like he did the first half first Cincy. Yeah, PJ is going to stink when you give it to your RB 3 times in a first half.

They gambled on young talent and they have played to the QBs strengths as he has developed. And they rode through the rough patches with him. A lot of parallels with Allen and a young Cam.

Robbie Anderson getting blasted on Twitter. Negative yards on the day, dropping wide open passes and getting Hopkins TD catches called back.
