It’s not just about YPC and being a rusher. It’s a passing league. More duties to the backfield than just running. I’m specifically not talking about rushing. I got no beef with Sanders or Hubbard as rushers. And if you wanted to run a Steve Wilks O with a weak QB I would have no issue. but we aren’t expected to be an old Panther O. The pass catching RB was a big part of Young’s Heisman run and college success too. We got no one proven in that role on the roster. Just seems silly not to given the investment in Young.
-
I got not beef with Hubbard as a #2 in an offense that wants to hide the QB and play D. But right now we are trying to groom Bryce Young….and we no proven RBs in that 3rd down/pass catching role.
-
I got blasted for saying it earlier in the off-season but we need talent added to the backfield. Chubba a weak #2 by NFL standards. I think we should add a vet RB if one pops in cuts that can do it all reliably even if they have a limited ceiling. And there are still questions about Sanders overall game too. He has never been a featured RB and his role as pass catcher is questionable at best. the suspect play of the OL just reinforces that IMO. Young really needs someone reliable in pass pro and that can run good routes with hands.

Who is or was Ron’s QB coach and OC?

I'm not sure what the 2019 season was. I thought we ran a mix of everything. Both looks. I know we were horrific against the run.
-
I don't think you can always go by 40 times when talking about speed in the NFL. 40 times largely measure how well you can run a 40. Sometimes it's more important to have quickness, route running, etc in the NFL. Lot of 4.4 guys aren't really all that fast on Sunday.
-
he might be a better pass rusher as a 3-4 OLB. He might not be. Never seen it. 3-4 might also highlight some of his weaknesses more. Don't know.
-
when we turned that down that offer, we also didn't know we would be moving to Evero's 3-4 scheme.
-
I just don't see why a NFL team would gamble on a massive contact......while never seeing him play a down at OLB in the new D. Everyone isn't going to be the same beast in a different scheme and position. Make the deal in season if you ask me.
-
if you are the Carolina Panthers, would you really want to give him a massive deal before you have seen him play a down in the new 3-4 scheme?
-
I mean, that’s what Bryce Young does well. That’s what he translates too in the NFL IMO. I mean, it doesn’t mean you literally never go deep. But yeah, he isn’t going to be a play action attack deep QB. He ideally would be attacking you short to intermediate. That’s the small ball game.
-
I mean, we drafted Bryce Young.....so it is going to make sense to build the team up with guys that cater to what we need. Which wasn't what we have had or had been drafed for. Tommy Tremble doesn't fit a small ball quick pass offense. You would have never drafted him if you were building an offense around Bryce Young. we still have a lot to do on that front, which is normal. We need some new TEs, WRs and frankly RBs to suit a small ball quick pass O. We lack the quickness/separation and hands on a lot of fronts.
-
Fitt paid him too much for him to go anywhere. He would be a 7 mill dead cap hit.
-
You leaving out Ian Thomas. He beats both those guys out. Arnold isn’t great but he is better than the majority of our TE roster.
-
Not these cuts, but there likely will be guys cut early this week that could improve rosters. Some teams are deep at spots. Some trying to figure out to roll with developing youth over aging vets. You can sometimes find some rental vet bandaids in the final cuts or legit raw talent.

Ian Thomas would be a 7 million dead cap hit Fitt-magic

I don’t think many people are doubting him for the most part. Think they doubt what is around him more than anything.
-
In fairness, a decent % of people in NFL front offices don’t belong either. NFL is slammed full of stupid just like every other corner of life. Dumb is everywhere.

I don’t know why they gave Ian Thomas a contract extension last year. We should have moved on from him. -

Is this the Lions starting D or backups? -
Cousins looked pretty stupid in Washington behind RGIII. Until it wasn't. I mean, you do have a point there.

You essentially go from trying to hide your QB to trying to groom your #1 overall pick that the O will go through. OL has a different job. A harder job. They don't want to hide Bryce Young. a run heavy scheme (vs a lot of bad run defense) and trying to make the game not about your QB isn't really an ideal scenario to really judge how good an OL is in today's NFL.
