Well, it's clearly not a broadly or largely made claim around here......if no one can find it/share it being made. So, wouldn't that make it a poor thing to argue about? That's all.
-
I have never seen anyone dig into the claim Bryce Young LITERALLY can't throw the ball 20 yards. I don't think acting like THAT is an actual position here, is a good position to argue from.
-
I think all this is standard internet arguing. Basically, you know what people meant, but it's better for argument's sakes to take things you know aren't literal as literal. (you as in people in general, not you you) I do recall discussion of who throwing the ball downfield is different in the NFL than college. Because it is. A lot of decisions and throws that work in college are no longer on the table. NFL defenses are better and faster. Windows become smaller. So yeah, throws in the NFL are different than college. For example, Bryce doesn't need to be throwing a lot of traditional out routes. We have found that out. Back shoulder? Comebacks? Ok. Some deeper stuff over the middle? Windows are way smaller and close faster in the NFL. Balls that worked in college will get picked.

Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?

On that same chart, slot me in between Teddy and Clausen. But more toward Teddy than Clausen. I think if we literally made a list of every Panther QB, that's where I think the collective group slots him. -

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is

I mean, I can get a ball downfield 40 yards. There would be a couple massive issues with me doing it. My ball placement would be off the charts bad. Second, for me to get it 40 yards I'm gonna have to moon it......which would give DBs the opportunity to make plays on balls that wouldn't exist if a better QB were throwing it. Which is all an exaggerated explanation of the Bryce issue. To many play the literal game w/ Bryce when it comes defending him. Every NFL QB likely can loft one up around 50 yards. Every QB in the NFL can't get a ball 30 yards downfield in the same windows. Or the same ball placement. That's the Bryce issue. But I also think mixed into that is just his QB DNA. Take a young Brees, it was in his DNA to stress defenses and takes shots. He would flat out be Delhomme-ish at times. Which is coverage and assignment altering. Brees would throw balls into triple coverage 40 yards downfield. Is that smart? Sometimes it is. Not because the play gets made but you force the secondary to play honest. -
we have been bad offensively basically every game Rico Dowdle hasn't gone full Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson on folks.

First 4 - 122 rushing yards per game allowed Last 2 - 25 per game allowed. I mean, to me at least, that is drastically different. That's almost 100 yards difference on the ground per game. I mean, Penix just sabotaged Atlanta. That's football. They ran for 130 despite not even getting a chance to get into their run game thanks to Penix. Jags went for 200. Every team the first 4 weeks went over 100+ except AZ and AZ had more than both the last 2 weeks combined in that game. D is clearly better than last year. But within this season, the last 2 weeks, have really just been sort of wonky. We aren't what the last 2 weeks says on the ground offensively or defensively. No team in NFL history is what we statistically did the last 2 weeks.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is
CRA replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers
True, Bryce having a weaker arm wouldn’t be a big deal if it was paired with… Great accuracy, ball placement, etc. But it’s not. Bryce has consistently done 2 things all 3 seasons. One of the lowest completion % in the NFL each year, one of the highest bad throws % in the NFL. Then you can get into his unwillingness to stress a D and how that has allowed safeties and DBs to cheat coverage making the small ball so many QBs enjoy a tougher task. -

Wut? 2023 - worst in the NFL 2024 - 2nd worst in the NFL 2025 - 6th worst in the NFL that cements him as having the highest bad throw % in the NFL since arriving in 2023 in what world is that not consistently high? And the last 2 games are doing a lot of work -

Constantly going to the but his weapons aren’t good enough argument….is conceding he isn’t what we claimed/thought he was. Entire argument and rationale for the pick is he would be a highly efficient point guard QB that doesn’t need great weapons and the resources could go elsewhere. and Bryce Young has one of the worst comp % this year…..with a very good OL, very good backfield and decent weapons. It’s Bryce. He is consistent. Low comp %. Super high bad throw %. Everything changes. He is largely the same. -

I get it, but you then choose to compare that to other QBs…who largely attack the pass game vastly different than Bryce. So you got to talk beyond the stat while having the convo. Bryce should have a high completion % given the way he attacks field vs how a young Cam did or a Jake. Always going to the but the talent! ….does’t work at this point. Bryce’s is very low and his bad throw % is also crazy high Bryce shouldn’t be a 60% QB and he should have low turnover % given he isn’t aggressively attacking downfield and doesn’t generate a lot of production. Bryce if he plays his style of ball well would have a very high comp% and low turnovers (that’s what he is supposed to be and isn’t). Gunslingers, big play guys….should have a lower comp % and more turnovers than Bryce. -
I’d like to see the numbers after the first 4 and how much influence the last 2 games is having on that. because the first 4 games and the last 2 really don’t seem to be the same team.
-
Yeah, it is. But the last 2 weeks are so far removed from the opening 4……it’s hard to really know what we are this year. last 2 weeks our rush D has allowed an average of 25 rushing yards. We got a RB averaging 200+ total yards with that. So what are we right now? I don’t know. Realistically, I don’t think we have the type D the last 2 weeks would suggest nor our rush attack. could just be 2 really weird games and we are largely more like the team that showed up the first 4

there is a 100 mile long list of NFL players and coaches going to bat and defending horrible play from teammates. -

I mean, I don’t have to explain Brett Favre and Teddy Bridgewater were doing drastically different things with the football. If someone doesn’t want to acknowledge that, no one convince them to see it Same with Bryce and basically every QB you named. Bryce and Cam Newton flat out shouldn't be judged by just cherry picking a random stat. Convo is broader. They played the position nothing alike. You can also take completion % as another example. Bryce’s should be drastically higher than a Cam in terms of completion % because of how they go about the pass game (pre injury Cam). every QB you named was aggressive with the ball (we ain’t talking ancient Brees here). Bryce isn’t. Not pulling numbers if you refuse to accept basics. -

Those QBs were also playing much more aggressive and accounting for more offensive production. Thats got to be part of a turnover convo. Brett Favre having 15 INTs and Bridgewater having 15 INTs aren’t going to represent the same in reality -
last 2 weeks really make things hard to sort of figure out what we got going on this year. In terms of what the D really is and isn't and probably the same for the run game.

yep. Rico Dowdle extended Bryce Young's audition. If not for Rico......and the next game being Dallas? You got to think Tepper/Canales shelf him again like last year if Rico didn't flip that game on it's head. That's how that was reading. -

I mean, there is what I think. Then there is what I think the Panthers think. and I think the Panthers have consistently shown that their thinking and decision-making in the Tepper era at the QB spot is what they are worst at. We are keeping Cam. No, Cam is gone. Teddy is here. We have a plan. Forget that plan, Teddy insulted us. We have Sam. I mean, we have Baker. I mean, we sold the farm for the #1 overall pick and we will figure out who we want. Bryce is the guy. 2 games into year 2, the Bryce ride is over. Wait a minute, we had to bring him back and now we are going to give him a year 3. -
The Bryce Young "Game Winning Drive" narrative needs to end
CRA replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think premium paid matters at this stage. Think the rest of league has established that. We have seen top 10 QBs moved on from after just 1 year. We have seen massive trade's at at the top moved on from too. Teams can't afford to waste time. I mean, it's not all just Bryce in a vacuum. Biggest issue is the front office in this equation. Maybe he would be less of an issue to move on from if they prioritized their QB roster and it would have already sort of taken care of itself.....if they added young QBs and real competition for the spot. we are sort of unique in how how competition-less our roster is given how iffy the #1 spot was going into this season and last. Sort of why they tried to move on from him last year and couldn't pull it off. -
The Bryce Young "Game Winning Drive" narrative needs to end
CRA replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
PJ Walker is the only QB in the Tepper era the Panthers managed to find wins with. Only QB w/ a winning record. PJ had success in pro ball before the Panthers. He he had NFL tools. He just is inconsistent and unreliable. PJ Walker is what you call a bad/poor man's gunslinger. He can provide highs and lows both virtually guaranteed. He is NFL depth. Bryce Young hasn't proven to improve a teams chances of winning better than the PJ Walker tier of QBing. PJ Walker can do things Bryce Young can't......and that's a problem -
It's hard to say the QB position in overvalued.....when you look at the night and day difference of a football team when Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow suddenly can't suit up for their team. Ravens magically went from averaging 32 points per game to 6 points per game. I mean, it takes at team to win games. But there is no more impactful position in the NFL than QB. A really great QB to a below average QB creates wild swings in football.

I'm sure the Bryce fanboys deem me co chair of the haters club. But I was once a champion for Bryce and argued the Panthers were setting him up to fail (and the all star staff Frank Reich crew came for me then) lol. I supported the org going all in on Bryce and a Bryce offense. They opted not to do that and I merely accepted that reality.
-
hell, the huddle literally attacked, insulted, and ran Dan Morgan (a real live Panther trying to be involved) away back in the day (who was nothing but awesome here). But some say those were the glory days and it's bad here because there is in-depth and persistent criticisms about Bryce Young's physical tools, ball placement, and throws and lack of production/success (and through all that, Bryce Young the human being is almost literally never attacked).
