The Athletic's Ted Nguyen scouts Kenny Pickett
mav1234 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ehh, I've seen Pickett going in the top ten to other teams (like Atlanta) and to the Saints if he falls. Pickett is being scouted pretty heavily by other QB hungry teams, but his comparatively low ceiling I think means he's unlikely to go in the very top of the first unless we make the move. But I've consistently been wrong about QBs, so perhaps I'll be wrong here. He's significantly better than a third rounder. Honestly. The thing with him is that his elite traits are accuracy and anticipation (hence the comments about not having anything that isn't coachable), and he's just good to great in every other category. So he's a good prospect, but not the kind of guy that, even if he pans out, you expect to become one of the top 3 QBs in the NFL. I think folks believe Willis, however, has that kind of ceiling. OTOH, Pickett is likely to be, at worst, a very good backup. Willis has a lower floor than that. Who wants to spend #6 on a potential backup? Well, the Panthers. Haha. -

I just don't think his (Pickett's) ceiling is high enough to take him where we are likely to be drafting a QB. That's why I prefer Willis overall ... although man, his accuracy in actual games is not good. Even in the Senior Bowl, in the actual game, he just didn't connect with anyone... compared to some other prospects that had quite decent or good games. -

52 games (not starts - he didn't start every game his first year), 32 ints in 1674 passing attempts. ~1.9% interception rate would put him in good company in the NFL (for comparison, Darnold is at 3.2% on his career). In terms of fumbles, its impossible he had 26 fumbles lost unless the stats available online are wrong (possible, I suppose). Numbers available show 26 total fumbles, 10 lost. -

The fumble numbers are wrong, and have no context (that is, his numbers are no different from other QBs with larger hands, lol). Most numbers I've seen show 26 total fumbles and 10 lost (5 in his first full year as a starter, only 2 last year). Some have said the 26 total is from rushing, 38 is total. If this is true, it is *impossible* he lost 26 fumbles, hahaha. In this interpretation of those numbers, he lost only 10 rushing and this would mean he somehow lost 16 fumbles while passing despite only fumbling 12 times from the pocket/while passing. -
I'm having trouble placing what all these QBs have in common...

what do you think it'd cost for whatever team it is to take Rhule too?

i'm 12 hours late but man am I glad you posted this.

I love Cam but I just don't see why he should come back, either on his side or the teams... I'd like to see him compete for a ring some place... He clearly still has it in the red zone and maybe more with competent coaching and players around him. While he would be a good mentor I think, he just wasn't particularly effective as a starter and so I could see them going in a different direction even if the goal is to mentor a rookie for a few games.

Of all of the top rated prospects, a WR seems to be the least useful. WR at 6 would massively disappoint me.

I would be absolutely confused if we drafted Ridder in the 1st round. Willis I like from an upside potential. If McAdoo likes Pickett then I'm behind him. Hell, I am almost always wrong about QBs especially in the draft, so the fact I don't want Pickett may be a good thing for him if we do draft him

REPORT: Armstead is between Chicago, Miami, and Carolina.

100%. Not sure Cam wants to come back tbh but Willis behind a vet (or lol Darnold) so he can learn. Send it. -
Kenny Pickett > Malik Willis (at least for us)
mav1234 replied to janderson20vt's topic in Carolina Panthers
Willis oozes potential. It's why I wouldnt mind him in the 1st. Pickett oozes backup-level floor, meh starter ceiling. It's why I don't want him in the first. -
rather have darnold starting, lol. not like we're winning it all with either one, at least darnold gets us a new coach and high 1st rounder.
-
they can give us a first round pick to take his contract

Given this shitshow I'm not even sorry, but I hope that Tepper feels like his nose has been rubbed in his own poo. Sticking with Rhule was a fuging disaster.
-
We've said before there's no way they afford to sign X player. This situation is more complex, but if any team can, it's them.
-
Seems rumors are he's going to New Orleans? What a turn. This is what Tepper deserves after forcing us to live with Rhule. Nobody thinks he's competent but Tepper. I'm surprised NO has the assets for the trade but somehow they always make things work.
-
Disappointment?
-
Tepper seems to get very involved in finding a franchise QB, but we know he let the coaches / scouts have their way with Fields etc

Completely agree that season wasn't on him at all. Watson is among the best QBs in the game. I guess the issue is, given what we are expected to give up and out existing holes and draft capital, would the results here be any different than that season? It just goes to show an exceptional QB alone isn't enough. I personally would do 3 first rounders and 1-2 good players for a franchise QB, but I guess my fear would be that QB forcing his way out of the situation after he's acquired given the shitshow we have. But I assume that's what the meetings are for. Acquiring someone like Watson - who lol is barely older than Kenny Pickett - will allow us to focus all resources on other areas of the team. We just need to make sure OL gets built first if we go that route. I'd rather overcommit to OL and neglect the D if we get Watson. Who knows. We will see.

Rhule is giving some of these guys a chance to live their dream (in some cases he's now done it twice, lol). That is a powerful motivator for loyalty. I'm glad they are able to finally have a shot. I just wish it wasn't coming at the cost of our enjoyment of Panthers football.

mav1234 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
What the fug does Tepper see to make him think he should break the bank for fuging Cousins what the fug is going on ahhhhhhh!!!! The fact this was leaked at least tells me a deal is not close to completed -

Lol I would out right fire Rhule if cousins was brought in as anything but a cheapish (yeah right) stopgap for a rookie to learn under. -

Don't forget PJ "so bad not even the only coaching staff that wants me will play me" Walker! Good thing we have two of three under contract
