Although I agree with your first statement, I don't with your second... All things completely equal I think LT is more valuable. But I don't like to look at picks as Horn vs Slater (or Fields etc)... Horn filled a huge need, and if he works out, good. CB is still a critical position.

I thought 70 was average starter level? I may be wrong. I dunno man, I don't see how you can watch that game and come away thinking CMC was anything less than very good, if not elite. He had some nice blocks, great runs, good catches... Likewise, I think Horn is better than his grade...
-
They also appear to have rated Ian Thomas above CMC, so uh, maybe they put an intern on play grading for our game
-
You will never, ever convince me Ian Thomas had a better fuging game than CMC.
-
Did I miss CMC? Also lol Ian Thomas...
-
I am surprised they didn't check him... But maybe because he didn't away as he got up? I don't know, I've seen QBs checked for hits like that before I think.
-
He was running for his life. Gutsy performance on his part but if that becomes a weekly occurrence, I don't think he'll last any longer than Darnold.
-
I think he might just look much, much slower than he really is. tbh I'm just happy he fielded them cleanly.
-
can we just revisit this for a second - who is being thrown under the bus covering for Darnold? We saw actual drops in the preseason on well-throw balls, and it wasn't just Darnold throwing the balls. Meanwhile, there were plenty of comments about Darnold's footwork (wasn't there an entire article on the main site of them trying to overhaul it?), improving his poor decision making, etc. meanwhile the dude is apparently one of the top vote-getters for captain, accepts blame himself in many situations (even when he isn't really at fault), seems to have the respect of his teammates... I mean objectively Darnold's first game wasn't perfect, but it was fine. Yet this is some weird narrative about people being throw under the bus because of a miscue involving multiple players...

Teddy Bridgewater named starter over Drew Lock
mav1234 replied to @bonafidebanter's topic in Carolina Panthers
2/6 on passes >20 yards, that sounds familiar. Teddy is money up to ~15 yards. Isn't meant to be the knock it sounds like... Hopefully this is success he can build on there. -
fans who think that the players that voted the dude a captain and clearly are rallying around him are going to "get tired of him being coddled." Smitty lauded praise on Darnold, commented on his arm strength, gave him high praise for his accuracy and ball placement on as many or more throws than he pointed out his misses. I mean, you and I watch the same broadcast and you come away thinking Smitty was critical of Darnold, when I come away thinking he was very positive.

This was a sad and weird decision... But likewise if you know that you're in a part of the field where you traditionally would go for a fg but can't, I wish we'd played like we had 4 downs to get 10 yards.
-
Personally, I think Teddy showed better overall command of the offense in week 1, but Darnold already has shown more arm talent. But their first starts were not so terribly different heh
-
Shaq was all over the field. It was really good to see. He looks much, much bigger, but I dunno if that was just my perception.
-
I think it was @rayzor but I may be wrong.
-
it is the kind of play you know the coaches were counting on when they pushed to pick him up. tbh if his chemistry continues to improve with the receivers I think he could turn his career around. but we'll see - it is just one game. but a promising start to Darnold 2.0.
-
I think that usually if a receiver has to adjust slightly to a ball, even if that means slowing slightly, we don't call it an underthrown ball. it isn't like Robby had to stop (and how many times did we see him have to stop last year? plenty...) Especially a slight underthrow on a ball thrown to the opposite side of the field right after escaping pressure... But I agree that it was technically slightly underthrown. It was a great throw... (I know you aren't arguing otherwise) some people just got so used to Cam throwing 50 yard ropes on a dime they can be overcritical.
-
To CP's credit he has been in various threads giving Darnold props. I'm choosing to believe it is out of genuine appreciation and not to avoid his ban haha
-
Tyrod Taylor had the best game of his career, lol. I mean, good for him, legit I think that is great. But this is a full year audition. Nobody was saying Taylor was broken, busted, destroyed, etc., like we have worried about Darnold. The key part of Darnold's play was that he played within the offense and limited mistakes IMO. He obviously needs to improve if anyone is going to give him $30M lol.
-
these are the kind of things I think we'll see improve over the season... this is just getting on the same page.
-
I wondered if he was trying to sit in a soft spot in the zone. It was clear from the broadcast Darnold expected a different decision there. Really unfortunate too, I think if he continues his route its a big gain.
-
did we even hear why Arnold quit on the route? Was it zone vs man read that he or Sam messed up?
-
not sure anyone is suggesting we pay him $30m a year yet (may have missed that). but it is worth noting that at least 2 of those were drops, and a couple overthrows. they can clean both those up. if he can get a couple more seconds out of the OL I expect we could see better work deep. I'm not saying he is a complete product but I think today was promising at least.
-
I did not see Darnold stare down his first read every play. He also definitely went through progressions on any play he had time to, but in the 2nd half especially he had almost no time.
-
That will be one of, if not the, longest TD pass in the NFL this week. Brady had a ball that traveled a few yards less in the air I think, but nobody else has come close. edit: Wilson had a longer ball I think. Still... It was a great play.
