Jadeveon Clowney is a solid DE who has earned his role as a starter on multiple teams. He didn't end up being #1 overall pick good, but he is an A+ Run defender and decent pass rusher. Years when he actually stays healthy (Which is not often) he puts up solid numbers. He's also light-years better than anyone else on our roster who plays the position.

It's smart to make the offensive line actually good, regardless of who the QB is.

He is all around more efficient than Carr. He has put up the same stats in fewer games than Carr. Kirk Also has a better career TD to INT %. Kirk is a top 10 QB by all metrics hovering around 7-10 consistently. You can win a SB with that kind of QB Play. Having said ALL of this, Kirk, like the Falcons, has a reputation of choking when it matters. So either it's a match made in meme heaven for everyone but the Falcons, or their anti-clutchness cancels each other out and they are actually good.

Ok: Cousins has started fewer games(145 to 159, nearly a season less), thrown more TDs (270 to 242), higher YPA (7.6 to 7.1), Higher QB Rating (98.2 to 92.3), and a better record as a starter (76-67-2 vs. 72-87). They are not the same.

By all accounts Higgins is the Brian Burns of Receivers - Young, good, promising, not quite elite #1 player at his position. Grass is always greener and all. I'd still rather have a receiver so the offense doesn't look catatonic.
