He is 5’10” and some change. They measure them now in front of everyone. I’m curious to see if he bulks up some this offseason like CMC did. That really could help him a lot.

Young was actually 6 foot even. A bunch of those guys were exaggerated back then. https://magazine.byu.edu/article/the-perspective-of-a-six-foot-quarterback/ I’m only 6 feet tall. My football card says 6-foot-2, and in shoes I really am 6-2, but it was a dream to be 6-2 because “6-foot” and “quarterback” don’t go together well in the NFL because everybody else is 6-5, 6-6, 6-7. He does go on to say it led to him not seeing many open WRs…

The More I Hear, The More I like Dave Canales
ForJimmy replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah most “sources” I’ve read state Frank wanted Carr which actually fits him better since he has never really worked with a rookie QB. -
Burrow’s arm was fine. He just found a way to make it better. Great players are always looking at ways to get better.

Throwing form and muscle can increase it. Burrow was able to increase his throwing velocity by tweaking his throwing motion after his rookie year. He strengthen his hips. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/joe-burrow-altered-throwing-motion-this-offseason-while-recovering-from-torn-acl#:~:text=He made changes to his,and being more accurate downfield.&text=Burrow focused on strengthening his, with his velocity and accuracy.

"Only one year of coordinator experience"

Ben Johnson was a first year OC last year when he opted out of interviews last year. A lot of people on here were wanting him as HC then. -

Cam’s success under Dorsey vs Geno’s jump in his first year with Canales isn’t really close to the same thing at all. Geno was written off as a bust and received “comeback player of the year.” The same award Baker is a finalist for this year. You can dismiss success for any candidate, but it is a good sign that it at least appears to follow this candidate. Hopefully it will translate at the next level. Nothing is a guarantee but I’m at least intrigued. Pretty solid candidate considering where we are as a franchise. -

Yeah it’s promising. Obviously nothing is guaranteed, but who knows. Arthur Smith was the hottest candidate in his cycle and 3 years later he is unemployed. -

Oh I agree but if success follows the candidate that’s a good sign. Russ’s best year was when Canales was his QB coach. Geno’s comeback year had Canales as the QB coach, Baker’s recent career year featured Canales as OC. -

What about Geno the prior year? -

We can also do a list of coaches with HC experience that failed starting with our most recent one… -

He took a team that lost the GOAT at QB, inserted Baker and increased the scoring by 11%. Their offense did better in the second half of the season vs first and yes Evero had some success against him but hopefully we retain Evero too. He also was the QB coach Geno’s comeback year and Russ’s best year, worked with Carroll for over a decade. Carroll brought him with him from USC so he must think highly of him. He also has Dungy as a sort of mentor. I mean all things considered, we could do a lot worse. Young coordinator starting to gain recognition is really our best route. If Canales looked good again next year it could have been a bidding war. -
Yeah I’m not laughing. He the Rams D looking solid with several rookies stepping up.

David, hi, some questions about this hire
ForJimmy replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly you are right and it’s not a bad decision based on where we are as a franchise. We didn’t have to worry about a bidding war and losing him to another franchise. -
Umm what? Ben Johnson is the guy everyone is wanting and he has no HC experience. Sean McVay had no HC experience, Kyle Shanahan, John Harbaugh, and the list goes on. 3 of the 4 coaches left had no HC experience when they were hired by their current teams.

Canales is in the same boat Ben Johnson was last year. Our best bet was to grab one of these young coaches early before they turn into a bidding war the following year. -
I think it would be good if Evero stays. I want the Canales/Evero combo then we can get a comp when Evero gets hired about another team in the future.

He "stepped in to" that situation in Seattle? Who was the WR coach from 2010-2017 followed by their passing game coordinator? Who do you think created that WR room in Seattle? Then you have Evans (getting some age on him) and Godwin coming off an injury. He had their offense scoring 11% more with Baker than it was with Brady. Over a decade under Carroll, Dungy as a mentor, and helping two of the biggest QB turnarounds we have seen in a minute is a decent resume. Let's just see what he can do.

He did well on the Eagles.

Dan Morgan will stop Tepper from crossing the LOS. It’s his specialty.
