The only issue I see with that is the whole offense that gets the ball out fast comment. It’s true that how smaller QBs like Brees protect themselves, but that takes away one of Young’s best attributes in his ability to extend plays. Stroud actually fits that style of offense better, but a QB with Young’s size should be playing that style in the NFL. It’s a back and forth conversation because it’s a strong argument for both players.

Young is smallish? He is going to be the smallest starting QB in the NFL. Look if a player is running around playing Mahomes style football taking hits while extending plays and is fine his first year but gets injured his second year it is more of a concern than a pocket passer getting injured his first year and playing through all his games his second. Call it nitpicking but that is what you should do with the possible top pick. This is the problem with a couple of these die hard Young people. They refuse to accept durability is a concern with his size. People were claiming he never got hurt, I said that’s not true and now it’s dragging out to this. Why do you think Young was the only QB not go throw at the combine after weighing over 200 pounds and a month later decided to throw but not weigh in. HE knows it’s a concern and wants to hide it to a degree. It’s why Young isn’t a clear top choice. He checks all the other boxes, but size/durability is a concern and even HE knows it.

I think coaching staff can have a lot to do with it. Lawrence with Meyer vs Pederson. Some elite ones can win in spite of their staff (like Cam), but it definitely helps and we have a good one. Our team is also built for a rookie QB right now. I think several of them are capable of finding success in Carolina.

Like you said injuries happen, but people can’t just claim they didn’t. Yes Stroud was injured two years ago but people are not saying he never was and he lasted the whole season this past season. One could argue Young’s being more recent was more wear and tear.

The poster literally just posted GMs pick players as a reason for Fitt to make the pick. Regardless it seems odd to hire a former QB offensive minded HC, tell him he will have a “CEO” type of position and not let him pick his QB. I’m not convinced Stroud is Reich’s guy, but I imagine his opinion should carry the most weight.

So Fitt picked Teddy, Darnold, Corral, and Baker and you are siding with him and Tepp (the man who hired Rhule) over Reich (great offensive coach and former QB) and our QB coach??

Oh I agree he needs to let the football guys make football decisions, but that is what he did with Rhule. At the end of the day if he doesn’t trust his GM and HC to make the right call, he hired the wrong people which I don’t think is the case.

If he can bulk up that big and keep his speed and quickness it will go a long way to lengthen his career. If his actually playing weight is 185, 30 pounds is a lot to add to a 5’10 thin frame though.

There were people saying Young played against SEC defenses without getting injured so he will be fine in the NFL. It was just misinformation as he was injured this season and missed a game.

I think those are Rhule QBs. Tepper wanted Watson and liked Fields.

This is a perfect take. He is a great QB, but the fans who aren’t concerned about his size are kidding themselves. Even Young knows it’s a concern which is why he won’t weigh in and throw on the sane day. He wants people to think he weighs more so there will be less of a concern.

I’d say they both did because they are both great prospects. It’s a win/win IMO.

If Reich is running the offense we should probably get the best QB for that offense. We shouldn’t force a square peg in a round hole. However who knows how accurate this article even is. Also Tepper loved Fields and we should have drafted him so there is that…

It’s fun because I really like Young too, but I also enjoy the debate. It’s like if I don’t get my way we still get an elite lil QB. It’s like I’m sorry we are out of filet so you will have to “settle” for the prime rib. Sounds great!!

Oh you can make the argument for either QB, it’s why it’s such a talking point here. I just think Stroud actually played a tougher schedule against strongest defenses in harsher conditions and still put up better numbers than Young. The counter is Stroud had MHJ vs Young having JAGS at WR, but an elite RB. On a side note who was the last Bama starting QB to not win a championship much less miss the playoffs his last year?

I hope Tepper lets the football guys make the football decisions. Hell it’s 2 former QBs in Reich and McCown.

I just think the SEC was weak on defenses last year. The first UGA win was awesome, the championship game was not as UGA made adjustments (2 INTs to 1 TD including the game ending pick 6, -40 rushing yards) but again that was a historic defense. People keep saying he handled SEC defenses without getting injured. I’m just saying that isn’t true. Would you not agree?
