Brock Purdy and why we don't need to draft a 1st round QB

Didn’t Burrow’s class have Herbert? -
Panthers settle practice site suit for $100 million

Because they settled…. I don’t think you know how this works. No action WITH RESPECT to the payment, they settled on a huge sum of money to not take further action. -

It’s all a matter of opinion. I’ve seen AR ranked as the 3rd QB. Which 4 do you have 1st round grades on? -

I can't believe so many posters are AGAINST drafting a 1st round QB. QB has been an issue for a while now and we can't just count on mid/late round diamonds or converting someone else's outcasts. We aren't smarter than all the other teams in the league. Just draft one we like and try to actually develop him. We have solid OL now which is a nice first step.- 60 replies

I definitely included Wilks staying as an option. Even pointed out how he was pissed his last team didn't draft the QB he wanted. He clearly wants to pick out his QB after getting screwed by Arizona. If you think a new HC values anything over a QB then you are mistaken. QB is the most important position in sports and it's not close. We have been needing one since Cam left. The IR situation is bad for Corral because it never allowed him to prove himself to our franchise. If he came in this year and played well or showed promise we would be having a much different conversation... Your point was Fitt picked Corral (which you made an assumption) and therefore Corral could be our guy going forward. That would imply the GM forcing his pick on whoever the HC is (Wilks or new HC). That's definitely not a attractive look for a franchise.... Also if a new HC brings HIS QB with him that is just as bad for Corral as us drafting one. I have nothing against Corral, but he is the victim of some unfortunate circumstances right now. Maybe he will be the guy going forward, but odds are it's probably someone else. Either a newly signed QB or newly drafted one.

So you are assuming Fitt made the trade for Corral and not Rhule? That's fine. Are they going to push this 3rd round IRed rookie on the new HC or let him pick his own guy? I mean logically which one do you REALLY think we are going to do when trying to lure a HC here or trying to extend Wilks. Wilks for example is still pissed Arizona forced Rosen on him instead of Allen who he wanted and Rosen was a 1st round pick...

Like you and Burns?? How did your Darnold spill go the other day?? He is a Panthers so I will cheer for Burns especially now that we are winning games with him. I hope Burns balls out and takes us to the Super Bowl! Does that not work for him?? Is is just a weird Darnold thing you have going on?
-
We traded away a future third which is viewed as what a 4th? It's not like we traded away a first for him. Plus our new HC had nothing to do with that trade so it's a little irrelevant....
-
I believe they lost their first one with him so maybe 1? Ironically that's the same number of games we won WITH him this year. What are we 4-3 without him? I haven't been paying that much attention...
-
It's skewed greatly for QBs because they are such a premium position. Most 3rd round QBs aren't expected to be starters. They are typically backups or projects teams are rolling the dice on.
-
Exactly! It's much more of him being in a bad situation than anything against him. Maybe he comes in if another QB gets hurt or maybe he eventually lands on another team and lights it up like Delhomme or Geno Smith, or he could absolutely crush it in camp (if he is healthy enough) and make our staff make a tough decision. The odds aren't in his favor for him to be an immediate franchise qb here, but I wouldn't call him a bust. Especially since he was drafted in the 3rd. Hell if he makes it as a long term backup here he isn't a bust for a 3rd rounder.

Are you admitting you called Lance a bust yet or just avoiding that quote that was posted?
-
No, that is you making up poo again after looking bad. I said Corral won't be the reason we DON'T draft a QB. He will have a chance to compete with whoever we draft, but it's an uphill battle with a new coach and being an injured 3rd round QB. I like Corral he just got screwed by Rhule and getting injured. I don't think anyone was written him off, just stated the odds are against him because of the whole situation.
-
He is still asking where he ever said that AFTER you posted his exact quote. He has nothing left to fall back on at this point....
-
@mrcompletely11already quoted you saying it. Just scroll up page 5.... Man it's getting bad....

Calling a QB a bust after one game. They all looked bad their rookie seasons, much less one game.
-
Are you just trying to go in a damn circle? I gave several reason why Lance could have struggled vs Purdy in game 1. He also may take longer to develop. There are thousands of variables for trying to compare young QBs after their first few starts. Teddy Bridgewater looked better than Peyton Manning, John Elway, and Troy Aikman in his first few starts. Do you think Teddy was a better QB? It is extremely brass and ignorant to call a QB a bust after 1 game. What part of that can you not grasp? When did I say Purdy is a "JAG"? Are you just making things up? I'm not saying Lance is better than Purdy, I am saying it is most definitely TBD at this point in their young careers. Purdy could have that "it" factor and Lance could never figure it out. There is no telling at this point...
-
I just prefer a MUCH larger sample size before making any dumb judgements, but you keep doing you! Write off Manning, Aikman, and Elway after their rookie years too while you are at it. We should have extended Kyle Allen after his 5-0 start with us and Darnold after he started 3-0 too last year. Some QBs take time to develop and that is OK/normal. Again I think Purdy has played well and could possibly be a starting QB in this league, but let's give him some time as well....
-
Maybe Lance started this year on the road in bad weather conditions without Kittle and CMC in a game where HE was the leading rusher? Looks like Kittle and CMC had some great games these past few games. Purdy has looked great, but that doesn't make Lance a bust. You have to look at the whole situation instead of these brass instant judgements...
-
Might as well just cut him since some Huddlers deemed him a bust after 2 games. No team would pick him up instantly or anything.......
-
Hmm what all rookies have played? I know WIllis played one game, Pickett has played several but can't stay healthy, Howell hasn't played, Corral hasn't played, Ridder hasn't played but will this weekend.... Am I missing some others?
