Honestly I’m thinking the best we can do (without Rhule ruining next year’s assets for our new coach), is trade low picks for Baker and draft a LT at 6. Don’t let Rhule extend Baker until AFTER the season. If he earns a new contract then that opens things up. If he struggles we let him walk at no expense to us. We have a promising OL and defense for our new coach and our early picks for him to draft his QB. Rhule gets his vet, our OL coach gets a great group of guys to work with and fans don’t have to watch Darnold again. This is all assuming the Browns eat a chunk of his salary too.

Who cares about a straight line race?? How often is that going to happen for our QB. Willis is far more elusive and quick than Pickett, he showed it at the Senior Bowl against the same competition. He showed it against Syracuse and Va Tech (same schools Pickett played in the ACC). Willis is this year’s Trey Lance (small school QB with huge upside but needs the right staff and probably needs to sit a year). He isn’t the QB that our staff needs to draft, but he has some great upside.

Lol you being high on Herbert wasn’t some crazy, rare take. He got drafted in the top 10 so obviously scouts were high on him as well. Trask is still a question mark and the Drew Brees to Carson Strong is very random. Strong is a statue with a strong arm. His best shot would be more of a Rivers style play IMO.

I find it interesting that several different scouts here compare Willis to Lance. One said he is a better prospect. I mentioned this on here and some Huddlers lost it. If we had a better staff to develop him, I’d be ok with Willis at 6. However with Rhule and Co I’d rather trade down and take a Howell/Corral if we go the QB route.

Yeah OL never bust in the draft right? Are we done paying Matt Kalil yet?
-
All I know is Neal and Icky are constantly ranked in the top 10. Cross is more all over the place. Im not saying he will bust or is bad, but a slight tier lower than the other two IMO.
-
I think it’s more of a big 2. I’ve seen Cross as low as in the 20s on some rankings. We have definitely improved our OL with our FAs alone. Throw in a stud young LT and we could have something.

If you are an offensive line fan, I don’t think this is the best team for you to pull for…
-
It’s all mental for Sam and our staff was dumb enough to pay him after 4 years if no results. That speaks of our stupidity more than anything else.
-
It gives Rhule his vet QB for cheap and let’s us see how Baker can perform in our system BEFORE we extend him. If he struggles it’s easy to cut him lose. If he plays well then we have some options (extend, sign/trade etc…) It’s a low risk strategy if they are unable to draft one or aren’t high on any of the ones in the draft.
-
He would fall in line with drafting one next year since his contract is over this year. It’s an easy way to give Rhule a cheap vet, draft a LT at 6 and see what they can do. If Baker struggles then we let him walk, fire Rhule and let the new guy draft his QB to play behind our new and improved OL. The other options are drafting one (which I know you don’t like) or Jimmy G. Our staff isn’t going to go with Sam and no one else this year.

Landry is still a FA right now if I’m not mistaken. He also had a WR in Beckham who is now on his third team and wasn’t being used correctly by his OC. Yeah Landry went to the Pro Bowl, and you don’t think that had anything to do with Baker consistently getting the ball into his hands? Even Teddy got Anderson looking good with 1000 receiving yards, then Darnold comes in and he sucks again. He has s good RB in Chubb meanwhile Sam has worked with Leveon Bell and CMC (I know he was hurt part of the season as was Chubb last year). Baker was still sacked 43 times last year (more than Sam) so the OL isn’t as good as advertised. So he had a good OG? Sam had a good RT? Doesn’t mean poo if the rest of the OL isn’t doing their job. The Browns aren’t some All Star team like people think. Baker like him or not would be considered a decent upgrade to Sam. I get he is an ass and threw way too many INTs his second year. Last year he probably should have sat out when he got hurt, but still he is an upgrade by a decent margin.

One is very short sighted like trading away future picks for picks/players now ruining the future salary cap to try to get immediate help. If you are trying to build a winning team the right way you won’t have to worry about trying to save your job IMO. That’s just how I viewed it.

I think people were just more excited because he was a 2nd round rookie who was starting/playing well and expected another leap the following year. The safety position is one that could be a good thing if you aren't noticing them (especially in coverage).

Discussion: The Panther Decision involving Baker

I'm not die hard Baker and really only want him if he comes cheap. He is just a much better QB than Darnold which isn't saying much. I'd prefer a trade down and draft one honestly. Baker makes sense if the Browns eat most of his salary and we don't give away any higher round picks. Start him over Sam and let him play out this year draft a LT at 6. If he struggles we look at next year's draft for our guy. Low risk move that should be an instant upgrade over Sam plus give us a solid OL. -
I think he is also more laid back and doesn't have that nastiness you look for in OL. He is very talented and can still be great, but if you give Neal's Icky's meanstreak you would have one hell of a LT.
-
He wants to get paid and seems to get injured a good bit. We already paid Moore and Anderson (dumb move), so I doubt he comes here. I really want to see what Marshall does this year.

And he will say. "I pay you to carry my golf clubs. Now shut up and do your job!" -
I get our HC isn't that good and is on the hot seat. However, McAdoo has experience and is a decent OC, Campen is a great OL coach and we already added several pieces to our OL. Moore, CMC (when healthy) are two top tier weapons. Anderson is hot/cold average WR but not the worst number 2 option. I don't see how we are the worst place for a young QB to go. I get not wanting us to get Willis because he still needs a lot of work, but I think Howell/Corral can be fine here. Most rookies don't light it up their rookie years anyway.
