  1. Yep we had a franchise QB and ran him into the ground. If Herbert fell to us it has been stated we would have drafted him. Drafting a QB early that drops to us doesn’t mean we have to avoid getting any kind of help at LT? Why do people think this? We should absolutely get one in the 2nd to compete with Scott and Erving. We have an anchor at RT which we are investing money in and picked up to G/Cs in Erving and Elf and resigned Miller. Our line was ranked 18 last year so slightly below average, but middle of the pack. Throw in a 2nd round LT (very deep class) with our FAs, Moton, and Paradis and it should be even better next year.
  2. Don’t like the pick at 8... trade down and I’ll be happy with him.
  3. Grab a LT in the second. This is a very deep draft for Offensive Linemen. We have Moton, Miller, Erving, Paradis, and 2nd Rounder to compete with Scott (and win hopefully). On a side note Herbert looked solid and had the worst line in the league.
  4. Sewell looks like the safer pick of the two, but I’d be happy with either one!
  5. It’s because it doesn’t fit their narrative. They don’t want us drafting a QB because our line sucks. The Chargers did that exact thing and it worked out fine. They will easily find decent linemen in the middle of this draft.
  6. It wasn’t better than ours. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2020-offensive-line-rankings dead last.
  7. Their line was horrible. Ranked dead last... https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2020-offensive-line-rankings Ours was better and they won more games because they found their QB.
  8. Honestly I think I’d rather have Darnold than Mac straight up. The extra picks they are throwing away on Mac just makes it worse.
  9. Hey to also counter my point. Darnold was technically a first rounder, so maybe he has a higher chance of success?
  10. I was thinking he was over a decade ago. Seems like he has been there forever!
  11. 9 years ago in 2012. Sweet. Although we do have the GM that may have been part of it.... Tom Brady was drafted way before the last decade.
  12. Oh yeah it’s 100% up to our front office on how they feel about these prospects. The link I saw stated they “love” Fields and “like” Jones. My only point has been Darnold shouldn’t stop them from taking a QB they are high on IF they fall to us at 8. Agreed on the first round picks, but it’s amplified with QBs. Outside of Dak has their been one outside of the first that’s a solid starter in the past decade? I know there are always exceptions, but the odds are not in their favor.
  13. Ahh I forgot TD was a safety at first. Yeah we can get a QB later, they just have a MUCH smaller chance of working out and we would be drafting one just to do it. The whole point is that IF a top one falls to 8, we shouldn’t hesitate. Verge had a great post about the success of QBs taken past round one in the past decade. It was heavily favored by First Rounders. I think Dak might be one of the rare ones that is a great QB taken after round one in that past decade.
  14. Yeah makes too much sense right. I get people wanting a LT, but getting upset about the idea of taking a top QB that falls to us when we have other needs is odd to me. Every QB picked number one over all goes to a team with many needs...
  15. They may have drafted players high, but it is still listed as the top need for the Chargers after they got Herbert. That’s how we beat them last year (constant pressure on Herbert). Baker had no protection his first two seasons. They just addressed it last offseason. Teams know you can’t compete consistently without a QB. Once you find your guy, it’s much easier to address needs. We just pumped money into RT (franchise tag) and signed several guards/centers. Little was a LT high 2nd pick he just busted. You can only draft one position in the first (usually). So you can’t just go by first round picks. We haven’t picked a Safety in a looong time or CB since Gamble in the first, TE? can’t think of one?
  16. The Chargers have PLENTY of needs including offensive line. They were picking higher than we are this year with many holes. Guess what their biggest need is right now? Offensive line. Tackle and Guard. They had an opportunity to grab a top rated QB in the top 10 and used it on Herbert. He sat out at first and only played because that doctor punctured Taylor’s lung. QB is too important of a position to pass up. It’s much easier to find good linemen/any other position than a good QB. Browns got Baker first line later, Cardinals got Murray first line later, Bengals are doing the same with Burrow.
  17. So you would have passed on Herbert last year if he dropped to us since we had Teddy? He didn’t start over Taylor day one for SD. Mahomes was pick 11 and didn’t start day one.
  18. So the real catch is what the writer thinks a future 2nd and 6th, 4th round picks are valued. Do I value them as strong enough capital to pass on a potential franchise QB if he happens to fall to us at 8? Absolutely not. I think it was used to move on from Teddy (apparently Tepper wants this) and secure a young QB with potential in case the one we like isn’t there at 8 (which he very well might not be). Do they think Darnold can be a starter? Yeah I think they believe that. A top 10 drafted QB is viewed at as more than just a starter. They can be franchise changers. Alex Smith was a solid starter yet the Chiefs still traded up for Mahomes. It all boils down to how they view Fields and none of us know the answer nor should we at this point. Here is a great example. We viewed Teddy as a starter and gave him a solid contract showing our confidence in him. They have stated if Herbert fell to them he would have been the pick. Imagine if he did fall and we didn’t draft him because we had a potential starter in Teddy and too many needs in other areas...
  19. He is a top tier backup that won’t win or lose a game for you. It’s what he always was and still is...
  20. It takes both sides hinting at it’s all a games of unknowns. That’s the whole point of the article.
  21. I think Pitts is one of the top players on our board. I would guess we take Pitts and hopefully grab a LT in the 2nd if it falls like this.
  22. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/gm-report/are-the-panthers-not-done-at-quarterback?fbclid=IwAR2RMjAbkb_8VH4ZTV5Mwa2Q_l5IQ9U6n1CbBmcAnYrw0JX2pL0s6YLRPAg
  23. This makes the most sense. I don’t know why people are struggling with this. We got Darnold because there was significant doubt Fields will be there at 8. After the draft, Darnold’s price could go up for desperate teams. We went ahead and secured our backup plan for little draft cost.
