Doubling down on Young. I don't like it. We NEED Young insurance.

A lot can change. Remember you thought Van Dyke was the next great thing after his freshman year. How does he look now? -

I agree 100%. Throw in some mid vet or draft pick that wins a few meaningless games at the end causing us to miss the next QB in the draft and see how the fans react. -

We have replaced our QB every year Tepper has been here without much success. Now we have a young QB we invested a ton of assets into that struggled in our offense. Before throwing more assets at that position we need to do everything in our power to create a decent offense to better evaluate these QBs. If we had a better offense like the Bucs when Baker was here we would probably be rolling with him right now and have all of those Young picks to use plus DJ. OL needs fixed, WR needs a WR1 and probably WR2, we need a TE, could use a RB that can catch the ball, LBs, another pass rusher, NT, CB2 and hope Horn can stay healthy. I can’t comprehend using yet another asset in a QB and hoping it works for the what??? Teddy, Sam, Baker, Corral, Young 6th time in 4 years? -

I think we just have too many holes everywhere else. If there is some crazy value at QB later in the draft then sure, but we have a lot of issues right now we need to fix before throwing a different QB at it again. So it’s not a true BPA, but more of a value chart with the QB position nerfed down quite a bit. -

Yeah you eventually have to stop throwing QBs at the problem and praying it works out. Spend our assets on building an actual offense first. See if Young can develop and then make your decision on him this next offseason. If he is as bad as people are claiming on here then we should have a top pick in 25 to replace him.- 335 replies

He was the OC for 1 year but has over a decade of experience under Carroll. We wanted BJ last year who was the OC for one year, Mike McDaniel has less of a resume, McVay was an OC for 2 years with way less overall experience, John Harbaugh worked in special teams and then a DB coach for a year. Morgan clearly liked what he saw from Canales working with him in Seattle and brought him in to interview in front of the firm who it seems walked away impressed to. People get too caught up in how long someone called plays.

David, hi, some questions about this hire

Well in just a few days OP was already proven wrong about Tepper keeping “his guy” in Tabor… -
Looks like Tabor is gone.

I think there is a decent portion of the "pessimistic" fans that do it in hopes to be proven wrong. They either get to crow "I told you so" if we continue to struggle or their team is playing well and they get proven wrong. It's kind of a win/win for them. It's just an odd approach to me because it's just sports. Get intrigued, get excited, and if they struggle let's watch them try to figure it out again. It's a fun hobby and should never be taken too seriously. I swear some people are having nightmares about our QB and waking up in cold sweats. He will either develop into a good QB or not. If not we will just try again to acquire a new one. -
J person, Athletic. Canales has one job Fix Young
ForJimmy replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. The situation should resolve itself. -
Nah overhaul the whole offense. Campen, Frank, (Brown, McCown and Staley are already gone), get Jefferson away from our WRs. Let Canales build his offensive staff from the ground up. If he wants his own defensive guy, that's fine, but Evero is solid there.
-
But is was STRONGLY worded....
-
Great person and great defensive coach. Good role model for any young person.
-
If it turns out like the other two mentioned we will all love it. At the end of the day HC money doesn't matter to anyone but the owner. All of the money owed to Reich doesn't affect our team outlook in any way.
-
It also appears Dan Morgan got the guy he wanted due to their history. GM heavily involved in picking his HC, search and numbers mimic previous coaches hired through the same firm. So far so good as far as Tepper meddling....
-
The firm they used to hire Canales had the Rams give McVay a 6 year and the Niners give Shanahan a 6 year. It is suppose to acknowledge it will take several years to correct this team and roster. From the outside looking in, it looks like Tepper is letting the firm do their thing.

Sounds like you are optimistic about being pessimistic. What does it all mean?!? -

Oh I agree. Football isn’t serious. It’s a fun hobby. Part of being a fan is getting overly excited about it. I just never get too vested or take it too personally when they fail to meet expectations. I’m all about wait and see and if it doesn’t work, reset and try again with football. -

I’m going to need that dumbed down and summarized please. Thanks. -
He is 5’10” and some change. They measure them now in front of everyone. I’m curious to see if he bulks up some this offseason like CMC did. That really could help him a lot.

Young was actually 6 foot even. A bunch of those guys were exaggerated back then. https://magazine.byu.edu/article/the-perspective-of-a-six-foot-quarterback/ I’m only 6 feet tall. My football card says 6-foot-2, and in shoes I really am 6-2, but it was a dream to be 6-2 because “6-foot” and “quarterback” don’t go together well in the NFL because everybody else is 6-5, 6-6, 6-7. He does go on to say it led to him not seeing many open WRs…

The More I Hear, The More I like Dave Canales
ForJimmy replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah most “sources” I’ve read state Frank wanted Carr which actually fits him better since he has never really worked with a rookie QB. -
Burrow’s arm was fine. He just found a way to make it better. Great players are always looking at ways to get better.
-
Throwing form and muscle can increase it. Burrow was able to increase his throwing velocity by tweaking his throwing motion after his rookie year. He strengthen his hips. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/joe-burrow-altered-throwing-motion-this-offseason-while-recovering-from-torn-acl#:~:text=He made changes to his,and being more accurate downfield.&text=Burrow focused on strengthening his, with his velocity and accuracy.
