The data shows Baker was pressured more often with less pocket time last year. The Browns had several starters out throughout the year so yes before the season started they were ranked in the top 10 based on talent and history. However that doesn’t matter because that unit was changing throughout the season with injuries and @poundawayis giving you the data that shows Baker’s OL wasn’t that great though out the actual season at pass protection. Both Darnold and Baker had bad pass protecting OLs last season and Baker STILL played better than Sam with one shoulder and a bad planting foot. Saying a QB that took the Browns to the playoffs, beat the Steelers while posting a QBR in the top 10 in 2020 is BARELY better than Sam is the only fake news I see here. Baker can be solid and has shown he is a capable starting QB. Sam should never start for a NFL team again.

Yeah they had some injuries and were much better at run blocking than pass blocking (Chubb also broke a lot of tackles). Like you stated that doesn’t help the QB when they allow constant pressure, especially when that QB is already banged up….

Mac and Zach were also 1st rounds picks in which were considered “pro ready” and their teams needed them to start sooner vs later. Zach didn’t look ready and got dominated his first few starts. Forcing a rookie to start right away seems rushed and foolish when we don’t have to.

Do you think that’s why Bozeman was with the 2s today and Elf with the 1s? To help Baker get acclimated to his new center (Bozeman). If Bozeman is with the 1s tomorrow with Baker it will be interesting.

Yeah we need Baker with Corral as his backup unless Corral blows them away. PJ or someone cut from another team can be our QB3. If it fails draft one again next year (hopefully with a new coach) and let him compete with Corral.

Something similar to the Teddy to Denver trade last year. Shanahan inquired about him with the Jets and I could see them sending us something trivial like a 6th/7th providing we eat most of his salary to back up Lance. Even if we save 1 or 2 million and gain a late round pick it would be worth it.

Corral has great tools (release, arm strength, quickness), but the concern with him and most other QBs in this recent class is that they will need time to adjust to the NFL. The offense ran at Ole Miss doesn't translate as well as it does in the NFL. If he put up those numbers in a Pro Style Offense he probably would have been drafted sooner. Hopefully it works out in our advantage, but many scouts/analysts were wanting Corral, Willis, and Howell to sit for at least a year before they are ready which appears to be what we are doing unless he just dominates early like Russ did in Seattle. I still think when it's all said and done Darnold might be traded and we could be rolling with Baker with Corral backing him up.

Yep. It's the reason why an "open competition" isn't really the best option for these players. Darnold will look good in practice and poo the bed when it's game time. We all know this and we know Baker is at least a capable starting QB in this league. The only competition should be Baker vs Corral. We know what Sam is.
