  1. https://www.panthers.com/news/scott-fitterer-adding-sam-darnold-gives-panthers-options People seem to ignore this. Fitterer states this doesn’t take them out of getting a QB. He also states it allows them to take the BPA or make moves. They didn’t want to go into the draft with any needs...
  2. And Brees has us taking Fields per Tepper. Another exchange of opinions. If Darnold had a cloud over his head over Teddy he isn’t going to cut it as a starter in this league...
  3. Darnold = insurance and doesn’t make us trade away too many picks for a QB or settle on whoever makes it to 8. He allows us to take the BPA. They are comfortable with him at QB this year. If someone they like happens to fall to 8 it will be interesting. If it’s one they really like we will either get a nice haul in a trade down or have a QB competition in camp.
  4. Yeah the Chargers should have passed on Herbert with all the Oregon busts (Marietta, Harrington) and the Bengals on Burrow with the LSU busts (Russell and Flynn). Texas Tech QBs were just system QBs until Mahomes...
  5. If the price is right, I’d be ok with this. Gives us ammo to grab one next year if needed.
  6. If you get it wrong you are set back like any first round pick. Sewell could end up like Matt Kalil, there is always a risk. However, if you don’t have a QB your team wont be doing too much anyway. You got to have one to stay relevant in the playoffs.
  7. Agreed. Some positions are worth this risk and QB could be one of them. Hell the Niners are dropping 3 first round picks on a guy they believe is the answer.
  8. If you pass on one you believe is the guy at 8 and gave a decent roster, it’s going to cost a lot more than one first to get your guy next year.
  9. It’s all part of our plan so they don’t jump us for you know who.
  10. https://www.google.com/amp/s/usatodayhss.com/2017/cam-newton-justin-fields-is-the-best-recruit-in-the-country/amp He was Cam Newton approved right out of high school!
  11. I may already have been offered the job! Jump on in there is plenty of room, just save a seat for Mr Scot...
  12. Yeah no one (including yourself) knows how the staff views Darnold. They think high enough of him to offer a 4th, 6th, and future 2nd. They think higher of Watson and Stafford than him (they were willing to give up more capital and tried this route first). So all we can assumed is he is valued less than Watson and Stafford and at least a future second (equals a third) and a couple late picks. The story you posted stated we were hesitant about giving a future 2nd so that was probably the peak value. We also know they won’t immediately pick up his 5th year option. Call it draft games or not, it won’t get addressed until after the draft. These are all just assumptions made from data we have been given. It can definitely be argued either way, which is why it’s such a polarizing topic.
  13. There is a nice middle ground here I think is getting missed. Darnold is viewed as upgrade over Teddy, Fields is viewed as upgrade over Darnold. Let’s say they view Teddy as just a backup (I do now) and Darnold has the ability/potential to be a starter in this league, but Fields/Jones/whoever could be the next great young franchise QB, who we didn’t think we would get at 8.
  14. I guess that’s our main difference of opinion. I think when you are drafting in the top 10 and don’t have a franchise QB, you should always be at least considering getting your franchise QB. In a perfect world we would get better and never draft this high again. Our staff should believe this if they believe in themselves.
  15. Say what you want about Fields, but he definitely makes a topic hot around here!
  16. It’s all about how they value the player. If our staff thinks Mac Jones will be significantly better than Darnold and our new franchise QB, then they would be stupid not to take him if he is there at 8. I happen to be high on Fields so I’m for taking him if he is there.
  17. Brown was a game changer at Auburn. He has a great pass rush and we started to see that at the end of his rookie year. He was a solid pick in my opinion.
  18. Brown is also very important to this team. Our run defense was so awful before he was drafted all teams needed to do was hand it off, control the clock and score with no issues. This was with Luke still playing. Players like Brown are similar to offensive linemen, they get under appreciated, but defenses fall apart without them. Luke was at his best when we had Star clogging the lane.
  19. Depends if our staff sees him as a NFL LT or G. He only played LT this past year and it’s was an unusual year, especially in the Big 10...
  20. Yeah and if one like Sewell falls to us, we should. We just don’t need to draft one in the first just for the sake of doing it though. If the value is there, I’m for it.
  21. I’m not the biggest fan of Horn at 8. I feel we could trade down and get a CB like Surtain, Newsome, or Samuel with not much of a drop off...
