I'm not even being negative really, more just amazed at how far the franchise has sunk to have this type of stuff be considered very positive. And I don't know about all NFL coaches but we have sure had a couple now that didn't seem to understand some obvious basics.
-
Don't confuse apathy/skepticism with misery. I daresay that some folks labeled as 'miserable', which has been thrown at me many times over the last year, are actually pretty loose and free with the weight of any kind of expectation lifted. Impossible to be disappointed and very easy to be pleasantly surprised when things are as bad as Tepper and his decisions have made them. Makes it easier to be objective as well, but there are probably more slight-leans toward optimism this year vs the BS that was going on last year.
-
Who says folks on that side of the fence are miserable? Very inaccurate assumption.
-
That's where we're setting the line now for really positive takes? Basic coaching 101 and not being a dumbass with scheme and personnel? I'll give you that it would be a nice step up from the last 2 guys if it happens, but my god is the bar low for this franchise.
-
Yeah, things seem different on the surface but once you dig in a bit it's like... was the process really that different and do these results really seem outside of Tepper's tendencies? Sportsology is getting tossed around but who actually knows how much their input factored in on either of/both of the hires. it's just useless to speculate or expect any different until the roster decisions start rolling in and, thereafter, the actual football starts.

It's not about batting balls, or not just about that anyway. His vision was clearly impacted at times and it manifests through his tendency to bail on pockets and his massive dropbacks as well as other ways. There are confounding factors of course, but his physical stature will always pose some degree of challenge that simply doesn't exist for QBs 5 inches taller.

To a point, yeah, but if that were true then I have to think at some point that Fitterer would have pointed to the product and just been like, "Look what you're doing, levae me/us alone." Assuming this scenario is true, even if he would have been better at the job without Tepper meddling then the spinelessness alone is enough to knock his grade way down. We'll never really know though.

Exactly where I'm at. Am completely neutral on the hire, which I guess is better than the strong confusion/aversion I felt with the Rhule and Reich hires. Could just be the apathy though.

Eh, the team was stagnating and steadily regressing through much of 2012. The final record was 7-9 but it took one of Ron's patented late-seaosn surges when the team was no longer playoff-relevant to rack up 4 consecutive wins. 2012 was not a pretty year.

I could not care less about Canales at this point but damn, is that a media outlet criticizing Rhule and Reich hires? I've been told so many times that they were only regarded positively... look at that. However, they also graded Fitterer... ouch.
-
It means we have no choice but to blindly trust that Tepper has actually learned something.
-
Who cares what any of them have to say? Talk is cheap and only serves to feed stupid fan bickering at this point - it shows up on the field or it doesn't count. At this point, they could all be dead silent until next season and it would be great. The signings, draft, and roster moves will speak louder than any words can.

J person, Athletic. Canales has one job Fix Young
KSpan replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I did, it was a misunderstanding from your original post. Agreed that Tyrod is generally a solid backup and agreed that all the guys you mention are about the same level. Tyrod was actually on my list of bridge QBs back in 2020 before Rhule and Tepper caught the dumb and threw silly money at Teddy. -
Yay, hooray, big day. Can't wait for the fluff pieces and coachspeak. Not fair to Canales but he's starting behind the 8-ball. Here's to seeing actual results.

You said the ideal vet for Bryce, which I interpreted as mentor. If that's not the case then understood. With respect to Tyrod, dude is exactly the same player as Alex Smith down to the same allergy to touchdowns, which cost him the job in Buffalo. In terms of 'threat to Bryce' he is no different than Dalton, who I never mentioned but who is just as likely to win games as Tyrod. Tyrod got 3 seasons as a starter. Dalton and Smith both had way more than that. Tyrod is defintely not above the Dalton line. Tyrod, Dalton... doesn't matter who is on the roster. -

Tyrod Taylor is a poor man's Alex Smith, most definitely not 'a beast'. Bryce would be better served to have someone less risk adverse. -
And/or perhaps the Morgan hire as well.
-
Uhhh... Ok. Were they afraid Bryce would force his way out?

There are plenty of folks in that thread that don't care that he's leaving. It is hardly one-sided.

The standard for Canales should be exactly as it was for Reich - steady and visible improvement thorughout the season with little to no regard for the overall record. If the team (players and staff alike) compete, grow, and show themselves to be strategically competent, then as long as they end 2024 playing much better football than they did at the start it's a positive season. If they don't then the leash should continue to be short, and if things carry along this same trend as this year we'll know that Tepper is an even more massive moron than he has appeared thus far.

"Only one year of coordinator experience"
KSpan replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh, but the college and retread attempts were terrible decisions from the start. I have no opinion on Canales at this point, but citing Rhule and Reich as reasons to try a different approach isn't accurate since they were crap from the outset. -

For the sake of argument, how long is the list of guys that flamed out in similar situations? Willing to bet it's well longer than this. Takeaway: who the hell knows what's going to happen. At least he didn't hire Quinn. -
Sure you can, in general, at any level. I can't comment on the current batch of candidates but it's common for guys to have been HC at a college program of some sort. I'm not pro or con in this area, just saying that it does make sense.
