  1. Not football, nor really infamous, more notable I'd say, but I have an original Mourning Hornets jersey in teal. Not a reissue or a remake. Vintage 1992.
  2. Consistent..yes. Jenkins more than had his moments. There's a story that Gruden called whoever was the Jets coach to personally thank him for getting Jenkins out of the division. We eagerly traded him out for a 3rd and 5th I think. I've forgotten what the reasons were. Doesn't really matter anymore at this point.
  3. I'm thrilled we won more than 5 games last season. That streak had been hanging around for too long. I don't have a prediction for this season, but I think the overall direction has improved. I've accepted the Hornets will always be terrible. Both teams can't be awful.
  4. Agreed. As big a moment as that was, beyond that, was Jenkins much better than his replacement, Maake Kemoeatu, or about the same, or a little under?
  5. I will say I liked Jenkins, especially when he was healthy. He was a force in that middle that had to be addressed. With that in mind, is it the Ring of Honor, Panther Hall of Fame, or Panther Superstar of the Game? I guess it's all up to interpretation. Another poster mentioned the blocked kick in Tampa, and I agree 100%. That was monumental. Defending champs beaten on their home turf by a bunch of unknowns. But the reality is I don't think players get honored for a singular moment.
  6. Jenkins won't be going in. The team was calling it addition by subtraction after he was shipped off.
  7. Agreed, to a certain extent. There were 3 teams that competed for fans here pre-1995. Redskins, Cowboys and Steelers. Redskins are irrelevant in a number of ways and are not a factor. There's been some migration that has brought in some Ohio fans and NY fans, especially western NY. I think that hits all teams though as people move back and forth, and some take their teams with them, some don't, and some go half and half. The Mayberry excuse is a little played out now, and is a bit insulting. If the team starts winning again, the fans come back, even if some of those fans are still secretly ashamedly Cowboy fans too. "Aw shucks what it twas, was football."
  8. Everyone loves a winner and the team hasn't been a winner for a good long while now. The whole gosh dangit small market Mayberry thing isn't accurate anymore. It may have been back when there wasn't a team logo on the field, back when old man Richardson had his row of white rocking chairs out there on Sunday morning, and fans could enjoy some relaxing times and sweet tea before the game, which was an actual thing, but that is in the past. 5 win seasons after 5 win seasons after 5 win seasons, and so on, makes a lot of people stay home.
  9. There are so many unknowns at this point, on all teams, that it might as well be a coinflip to decide. My kneejerk reaction today, would be no. It's very rare that rookie qbs excel right out of the gate.
  10. Understand completely. I was posting it more as a compare-contrast to what our team has put out. I have not seen much more from other teams, but admittedly, other than our NFC South brethren, I do not keep up with most teams in detail. I do get some Jags coverage where I am located though, so rather than Panthers North or Panthers Steel City, I guess by default my casual AFC team would be the Jags.
  11. The Jags are doing a similar offseason video series. This is their 3rd episode as well. https://youtu.be/fVOCpTmgpJs
  12. Some doomsday scenarios to ponder amid the sunshine.. Young looks like a rookie and makes plenty of rookie mistakes. Oline is just ok. Offense is not dynamic enough and frequently puts the defense in tough spots. Health and ability of cbs is an ongoing problem through the season. Defense is consistently overmatched by the better offenses. Team is frustrating to watch by having a good game followed up by bad performances. Record is 6-11, 3rd in South. I think something along those lines is what the national view of the team is about.
  13. The formula worked pretty well for the 2003 team. The 2005 team is probably my favorite, even considering 2015. Running out of gas, on the road, to a good team, in a tough venue in the NFC championship game was a better ending than that Superbowl.
  14. None of this matters though, but it is talk. Fans of every team are running with hope this time of year. There are folks over on the Falcons board that are arguing how they will have the top seed in the NFC. I'm not buying into us winning the South. We are not good enough, and while 31st is low, it's not much lower than I would rank us right now.
  15. What else could you expect when we had a sloppy, shoddy coach dressing like a regular guy that rolled off the couch on Saturday to mow the lawn.
  16. Sure stats matter. 177 catches for 1,718 yards, a 9.7 ypc, over 5 seasons. 14 tds, nearly half (6) in 2020 with the Falcons, which was his best season with 56 catches for 571 yards. With those eye-popping numbers in mind, he is far more productive than Thomas or Tremble. Thomas is a waste of cap space, and Tremble is a maybe more of a H-back.
  17. I think this is a good way of looking at it. There are going to be some real ups and downs this season, but I want to believe that there are more ups, and the downs are brief at least. I will say, it's early, but the coaching staff has been impressive, and that's gotten everyone's hope up for some good games this year.
  18. There is depth, I'll agree with that statement. I don't think I'd call you cynical at all. Far from it.
  19. Win close, 1 score games so the national narrative will be along the lines of worst 10-7 team ever.
  20. That's what makes for discussion this time of year. I never said there was no ability. Not once. This is also the time of year when the wild dreams about how great the team will be in a few months will start in earnest. Let's get out schedules and have us "within all reason" 7-1 at the halfway point, because it's all winnable games, right? It's all speculation. Your opinion differs from mine. Noted.
  21. Best episode so far. All the little tidbits of info make it very a compelling watch.
  22. Here's my worry, and it ties in a little with what you've mentioned. I think the oline may very well be the strength of the offense, but it may not have the impact we expect. The wr group is not scaring anyone, and Sanders will not have the luxury of playing alongside the Eagles weapons. So, can the passing game keep defenses out of stacking the box? If those receivers aren't getting open or not making plays, the quality of the oline will be minimized. There's a whole bunch of hope and what ifs this year, but I think that's normal for a transition.
  23. It's always been like that since the corporate naming thing came into being. I think the team has insisted The Mile High name stays, regardless of any name deal. It's more common with some of the stadiums that have character and history, Lambeau, Soldier, Arrowhead.
