Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list

I can't wait to hear the explanation of how 11 players will be off the board by pick 8. -
Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list
BrianS replied to Panthers316's topic in Carolina Panthers
False logic. The Falcons taking a QB has nothing to do with Matt Ryan coming back. He was always coming back. It has everything to do with the fact that Matt Ryan is 36. It has everything to do with the quality of the QB class and where they are picking within that class. There is no scenario where we draft at eight and less than four QB's are off the board before we do. -
No, this is incorrect. That's the knock that some folks have for Carr, but you need to watch his eyes when he plays. His eyes are downfield, sometimes for a little too long. His first read is always downfield. If anything, I think he's sometimes a little late getting to the checkdown. Not that he doesn't take it, but it's definitely not his preferred choice. FWIW - Carr had a higher intended air yards per attempt than Aaron Rodgers, Kyler Murray and Big Ben (as well as 18 other QB's).
-
Carr would be a MUCH better contract for us that TB5. Nothing in there guaranteed assuming he comes over in trade. If he comes here and lights it up, you've found a guy who can give you another 5-7 years. Plenty of time for a SB run. If he is terrible, you can cut him easily.
-
Just the opposite. He takes his team downfield and scores. Five times last year. He had a sixth time pissed away after he put his team ahead of the Chiefs with 1:45 to go and the defense couldn't get a stop.
-
Because if you HAD watched Carr play you wouldn't be making crazy statements about what he can and can't do. He's a lot more than another "cool arm". He's a good QB. So is Stafford, I just think the price was too high on him. Oh, and you want a winner? Like someone who can take his team downfield at the end of the fourth and score? Like Carr did against the Chiefs? Or like he did FIVE TIMES last year? Stop blaming Carr for the ineptitude of his franchise and watch him play. It's like the people who were blaming Tannehill for the Dolphins failures. He goes to the Titans and "suddenly" he looks like a franchise QB? No. He always was that. He's gotten better every single year. JUST LIKE CARR. Tannehill went from a Dolphins castoff to a Titans hero with 33 TD / 7 INT / 6 game winning drives.
-
"Another QB with a cool arm" . . . in the Rhule era? Who? There are only two Rhule era QB's - TB5 and PJ Walker. Neither of them has anything resembling a good arm. "I don't get it" . . . well, that's because you haven't watched him. Go watch him. I linked the Raiders / Chiefs game earlier in the thread. He's about the furthest thing from TB5 you could possibly find. He mobile, makes good decisions, pushes the ball when he can and keeps his eyes downfield until the last possible moment. Watch him play, don't form an opinion based on what others tell you.

If you can get Carr with an exchange of first rounders plus a third, maybe you're still in position to draft Pitts? I dunno, 17th is pretty far down, it's not a question of the talent, Pitts is great, it's a question of position value for a TE. Still, if you could get Carr and Pitts added to our existing offense you'd have something scary there. The only question I have about Pitts is "Can he actually block?"
-
I agree, but our Kelce / Waller is our RB. At least in this iteration of our offense.
-
I dunno man, check out the Chiefs game below. Carr took his team down to take the lead with less than two minutes to go and the Raiders couldn't hang on. He was definitely looking downfield first the whole game. I know, it's just one game, but it's pretty representative.
-
He's not elite at present, but his stats man . . . can you imagine what they'd look like if he was throwing to Moore, Anderson and CMC? He's got the arm. He takes good care of the ball, but isn't scared to push it downfield. Mobile. And that clutch factor. He had nine opportunities to win a game for his team. He did it five times. All I'm saying is that if our QB had that record this past season, we would have been 10-6.
-
I would 100% ok with Derek Carr. Look at this: All the guy has done since entering the league is get better and better and better. 27 TD, 9 INT's, 4100 yards last year. Almost 8 yards per attempt. YES PLEASE. He's relatively young, with another 5-7 years of prime football in him unless he gets abused. Oh, and there's this: Five game winning drives last year. Hi there clutch QB.

Remmers starting at LT for the SB
BrianS replied to TrevorLaurenceTime22's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agree. And I suspect that an offensive coach of Andy Reid's caliber will know that, plan for it and fix it. -
How close did the Panthers come to getting Stafford? Dang close.
BrianS replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wait, wut? Our coach got our players to play to the end this season. You know, the actual NFL players on our roster. Those guys CLEARLY fought their (*@#es off for him. Our record does not reflect the effort our team produced. It reflects the lack of talent we have. Our team purged a LOT of dead wood last offseason. ON PURPOSE. Further, we'll do more house cleaning this year. When you look at the roster right now, look at our projected position in 2022. We are SUPER clean by then. We're going in the right direction. Matt Rhule may well flame out. It happens. However, he's going to leave us in a better position than we were in when he came here. That much is obvious already. -
So, let me get this straight. The OP quotes our coach who was speaking about getting a QB who can make clutch plays in critical situations . . . then goes "This is why we need Mac Jones." Seriously? The one QB in college football who NEVER had to make a clutch play? Who never played from behind. Who was never in a one score game in the fourth quarter? The guy who only started in 2019 because Tua got broken? That guy? Ooooook. Thank goodness we have a GM.

Remmers starting at LT for the SB
BrianS replied to TrevorLaurenceTime22's topic in Carolina Panthers
What is there to hate about Remmers? The guy has done nothing but be an average starter in the league. If you want to blame someone for the 2015 SB, blame the coaching staff who watched for sixty minutes as an All-Pro caliber player was playing out of his mind and abusing our tackle without making a single adjustment. I hope Remmers gets his ring. He'd have had one already if our coaches could have pulled their heads out of the sand long enough to fix a problem. -
Do not sleep on Trask. I actually don't think he makes it out of the first round. If Elway were still the GM in Denver I wouldn't expect him to get past Denver. Heck, Elway is still the President or something, I would not be AT ALL surprised to see them grab Trask. All those things Mac Jones hasn't shown? Yea, Trask has shown them. Big NFL arm. Timing and placement. Good lower body mechanics. Lesser talent around him, ugly pockets, coming from behind and he still got it done. Oh, and excellent locker room and leadership. I know most folks don't see it, but the guy is a first rounder. The only thing Trask doesn't do well is run. He slides and climbs well, but doesn't run well.

What Carolina and others offered for Stafford
BrianS replied to Calboyz13's topic in Carolina Panthers
The only way he accrues seasons is if he shows up to play the games. I'm not sure what the exact obligations are in the contract, but there are a certain number of games you have to be eligible to play in order to get the year qualified as a "season" for the purposes of fulfilling the contract. Obviously, injuries are another thing. So sure, Deshaun could come back, get "injured" in the first game and sit out. Then it would REALLY get ugly. But the bottom line is that he needs to be eligible to play a certain number of games to get that counted as one of his seasons. -
This is exactly how I see it. People who are high on Jones haven't watched the tape enough. Show me Mac Jones consistently fitting balls into tight windows with placement, timing and velocity. Show me Mac Jones bringing his team back. Show me Mac Jones lifting his team despite the quality of the players around him not being up to the standard. Go ahead. I'll wait. Yes, Mac's numbers looked fantastic. But they are front runner numbers. His line kept him clean, his receivers were wide open. He had all the time in the world to get thru his progressions. That ain't the NFL.

What Carolina and others offered for Stafford
BrianS replied to Calboyz13's topic in Carolina Panthers
You clearly don't understand. Watson has a LIMITED lifespan. If he gives up a year (or more) to be dumb that's on him. He signed a contract, he either has to fulfill that contract or sit out in protest. That sitting out yields him zero dollars, and it doesn't count toward any of his years. The longer he drags his feet, the less money he makes. The Texans only have to pay him while he's fulfilling the terms. He's stuck. He signed. He can stomp his feet and act like a child about it all he wants. Everyone works for a living, he's no different. The people who pay him hold all the cards. For him, it's even worse. If I have a large enough disagreement with my boss, I can walk. I don't have a contract. Anyone who can't see that is blind, engaging in wishful thinking or fishing for clicks. Choose one. -
What Carolina and others offered for Stafford
BrianS replied to Calboyz13's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're missing the point. NOTHING has happened. Deshaun has *said* he's unhappy. He's *said* he wants out. That's all. None of those things are meaningful. Deshaun has zero leverage here. He signed a contract! The no trade clause doesn't represent leverage to get him out, it represents leverage to keep him in Houston. His leverage to leave doesn't start until he holds out! Even then, it's still not really up to him. If Houston digs in they can force him to play or sit out. If he plays, Houston wins. If he sits out, Deshaun loses a year of his career. Heads Houston wins, tails Deshaun loses. Remind me again who has the leverage here?
