  1. Lol I was distracted and skipped over that part.
  2. Someone from the team leaked that number. If Burns camp is ASKING for 30 (if that’s true) and panthers want to be at 24 they will meet somewhere in the middle say 27 mill per year. With the cap increases going through the roof coming up that should be no issue as well as your rookie QB wage scale. This is the time to pay your young star all pro talent while we have Young so cheap. We waste millions on Sam Darnold, Robbie Anderson, etc but flip out about paying the all pro 25 year old DE when we turned down huge draft capital Last year for him, and we have zero talent at the position besides him. It’s a strange tactic, they have known what he has been asking for, for a while now and have made zero progress on a new contract. We have handled this so poorly he decided to hold out a week before the season. It’s not on Burns, this has been a no brained for a year now.
  3. Speculation….Person isn’t in the rooms during negotiations. Who do you think leaked that number? The team. They may be asking for 30, panthers only want to pay 24 for example, and they meet at 27. That’s how it works with negotiations and the panthers are trying to get a better deal when they have already played their hand last year. They are playing hard ball with a player who we should not be. We give away the farm for a RB or a backup level QB for years but all of a sudden become a hard ass paying the young talent who has earned it and it a locker room leader? It’s dumb.
  4. He has never said 30 a year, that’s speculation at this point. This is his value per year if his main comp is Max Crosby, which I would value him higher than. This is not considering the major increase in cap coming up. We can pay people like Chosen Anderson to not even play for us and no one blinks an eye, but we piss off our main core Defensive talent over a few mill per year. We knew what his salary expectations were last year when we turned down all of the picks offered to trade him. We as a team have made zero progress since then on a new contract and that’s not on Burns, it’s on our organization. We have been eating dead cap for years now signing bums (Darnold…..enough said) but we flip out over paying a double digit all pro DE who is 25 years old?
  5. Say what you want but this defense takes a nose dive without Burns on the field.
  6. It’s wild how we go from constantly paying positions that should not get big deals, then fug the layup extensions. We pay RB’s all day long, but a young superstar like Burns gets pissed at us and decide to hold out the week before our first game. It’s unreal. It’s not like we have a single player at his level on our team to rush the QB, but we decide to turn down a haul of picks and then get into a state off with the guy.
  7. Mods can we unpin this thread? Tomorrow is kickoff day
  8. Damn, no updates? Taking bets now on Burns playing week one……… I’m guessing No
  9. You are the official Huddle GOAT. I will ban anyone who says otherwise.
  10. It’s funny people get offended about what his market rate is. Burns will get top dollar from us or someone else around the league. Imagine our pass rush without Burns….it’s not going to be pretty. He plays one of the most expensive positions in the league right up with LT and QB. Don’t act like players like BB just grow in trees.
  11. You don’t let players like Brian Burns get away…..period. Some of you are valid that Burns does not have have X factor impact on every game he has played, but he easily could reach that level and has shown improvement every year he’s played. He has been apart of some really bad teams, where our offense has given us zero chance to win. Some of you are valid in saying he’s not a top 3 player yet, but he’s close, and other than QB, he is playing a role that is the hardest to find, hence the reason his position pays so well. As you can tell, we have struggled to get someone solid you can depend on, on the opposite side of Burns, and he’s still producing at an all pro level. Take a second and imagine our team playing all year without spider man……it would be a disaster for our defense.
  12. And Burns comes in at #2 largest cap hit. We need to go ahead and sign this man to make him, the team, the fans, and our cap room happy.
  13. Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns is heading into the fifth and final season of his contract, and he may be getting impatient for a new deal. Burns missed practice today for reasons that head coach Frank Reich declined to explain. “It was a personal matter,” Reich said. Asked later if Burns’ absence was about his contract, Reich would neither confirm nor deny it. “I’ll just refer that to Brian,” Reich said. “It’s impossible for me to have more respect than I do for Brian. It’s his personal matter. And secondly, as a matter of policy, it’s not my role to talk about contracts, even if that’s what it was.” The Panthers see the 25-year-old Burns as a major part of their future, and they surely hope to get him signed soon. But Burns may want it done even sooner, and he may have sent a message about that today. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/brian-burns-out-of-practice-frank-reich-not-saying-if-absence-is-contract-related
  14. I think it’s sexy AF, it’s almost sold out lol. If it wasn’t so expensive I’d be buying one
  15. Still better than @TheBigKat threads
  16. It’s too early to tell. We will have an answer by the end of this season. BC played very well as a rookie under Rhule playing every position but what he should have. He had mixed results year 2 in a full time position and was getting better week by week last season. This year feels like a make or break season for him long term role with the team
  17. Hey everyone…..shall we take a moment to press the pause button on overreactions, take a moment to sip our beers, smell the grill firing up, look at a few mug shots for a quick giggle, and celebrate that we are about to start a new era in Panthers football history. We came out of the preseason with no major injuries to our star core players, and we have a franchise QB about to take over, after years of sitting through a horrifying carousel of terrible journeymen. To our season long health!
  18. Show it again but slower. I just went from 6 to midnight boys……
  19. “Campen said he saw nothing in that game that reminded him of issues that plagued the line the first half of last season. When asked specifically about Ekwonu from last season to this one, he quickly responded, “Oh, he’s progressing. He’s fine." Asked if Ekwonu was more polished in one-on-one blocking, the veteran coach said, “He’s improved." But the first two preseason games show there’s room for a lot more improvement.” lol I trust Campens opinion over Newton in the last line
  20. We will find out if Mingo can handle the responsibility. We aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year, so let’s keep building on the chemistry between Mingo and Young. If we were depending on Chark being healthy all season we were delusional. Time for the two second round picks to step up (Mingo and TMJ once he’s back)
