  1. NFL coaching contracts always contain "offset language." Unless Tepper did something incredibly stupid (possible, especially with Hurney involved), it is a one-for-one offset of his college salary against his Panthers salary. And just like collecting unemployment, he can't sit on his butt and watch reruns of Gilligan's Island and collect the money. He has to attempt to find a job. I read something the other day saying this was indeed the case with Rhule's contract, but where the author got the information was not clear. He could have made it up. Normally NFL coaching contracts like personal services contracts. Al Davis one time threatened to have a coach he fired wash his car while he was under contract. I don't think he did it, but contractually he might have been able to.
  2. I have an advantage in that I live 1600 miles away and it takes effort on my part to see Panthers games, even after the fact. Under Rhule they are not worth that effort. Let's put it this way. The NHL regular season kicked off a few days ago. I think there have been two games played so far in the entire league. I have already watched as much NHL in that short period of time as I have NFL through 5 weeks. What Rhule is doing to me with the Panthers, Goodell and his cast of misfits has done to me with the NFL in general.
  3. I agree. The reference I made to college jobs was Rhule getting one to offload his (ridiculous) salary. I want a college coach here as much as I want a root canal and lobotomy. Although after watching Rhule, the lobotomy does have a comforting sound to it.
  4. Exactly. McAdoo has not exactly distinguished himself in game planning to the team's strengths, the opponent's tendencies, or for that matter much of anything. As long as he is in that position, we will be lucky to score more than 13-17 points a game, and some days lower.
  5. Canning The Process does nothing to make us more likely to be mediocre. For this year, there is nobody on his staff that is going to come in and cause this team to make a run. If somehow they did, that means we are not as needy on the roster as many think. Canning Rhule now does everybody favors. For Tepper, there are several high-level college jobs open The Process might slide into and lower or completely wipe out what he is owed on his contract here. For the players, just maybe it might remove this clusterf*#k of a "culture" and start to stabilize things. For the fans, the misery of dealing with knowing this team can't get beyond looking like the a college team playing NFL opponents will come to an end. I get what you are saying, we are screwed in the number of draft picks we have, especially since we may well be drafting in the top 3 (if not first), and our salary cap situation looks bleak, but hanging onto The Process for the sake of hitting absolute zero does not guarantee any kind of recovery. It may make it worse. Remember, the clown has "total control of the roster" and can just keep screwing things up indefinitely.
  6. There is no QB controversy because we have no QBs to have a controversy about. When Darnold comes back, we will have three guys who may not be in the league next year. It would be a pretty safe bet two of the three will certainly be out of the league, and PJ is one of those. PJ's NFL career is completely dependent on Rhule, and Rhule's NFL career is spiraling into the ground.
  7. Look who made the call. Jerome Boger is to NFL refereeing what Matt Rhule is to NFL coaching.
  8. Kinda wondering if he would like to rethink that position right about now. He's proven he doesn't have any idea what he is doing and his instincts are almost exactly wrong. But, it is his team to screw up as he wishes.
  9. Do you have a favorite movie or TV show character? I have to believe somebody can change a user name. But then again, I dropped a long-time email address, and there are a few sites that will allow me to change the email the account uses, but not the login. So what makes sense does not always apply. I work with an automation system, and I see things all the time that make me slap my forehead.
  10. They would not have to pay Tepper. If Tepper gives them permission to talk to Rhule and they come to an agreement, whatever salary they give Rhule offsets part (or even all) of the money the Panthers pay him. In essence, they would be paying Tepper by paying Rhule. It becomes a PR win for everybody. Tepper or Fitts get to say something like "Arizona State has offered Matt an incredible opportunity, and while we hate to lose him (cough, cough, cough, choke, sip of water), we do not want to stand in his way. We wish him the best in the future." Translated: We found a college willing to take this BS artist off our hands and pay most of his outrageous salary. He may even work out for them, since you can BS 18-year-old kids a lot easier than 25-year-old men. For us, we not only unload part of his salary, but we don't have to listen to his BS press conferences, endless buzzwords, and useless spin on statistics after every friggin loss....which is pretty much every week during the season. We wish him the best, but mostly we are glad he is gone.
  11. That would probably be considered an act of war.
  12. That offset is typical in an NFL coaching contract. I wasn't sure what was in Rhule's contract, since they went all in to get the snake oil salesman and with Hurney involved, anything was possible. Good to hear that part is on standard terms. If anything, with some big-name college jobs open, it makes sense to send Rhule out the door as soon as that final decision has been made so he can land one of those jobs. His name has been mentioned with Nebraska and Arizona State (that I know of), and either of them could remove a lot of the financial onus on the Panthers. As far as talent and a bit of a turnaround to showcase it, we'll see. I think we have more talent than some think, but not as much as others believe. I also think the bulk of our young talent is on defense, which might be tempting to a coach with a background in defense. I know a lot of people here want an offensive-minded coach, but our situation is less attractive to such candidates, IMO.
  13. I'm still in favor of painting "Fire Rhule" in the end zones, using the throwback font. I don't care if it is electric blue on a black background, the opposite, or neon yellow on a purple background.
  14. Good stuff. Best line is near the end, "what is Ben McAdoo doing?" That is a question on the minds of a lot of people.
  15. Cam was brought in to make the impact of getting the fans off their backs for a while. Rhule even screwed that up.
  16. You are probably correct on that assessment. I looked at games where we scored in the first quarter, and we did against New Orleans. What I forgot was those opening stanza points were put on the board by the defense. <Sigh> So, offensively we are yet to look prepared for an opponent this year. But, "we're four games in." Of course, the opponents are four games in, too, but I guess that is besides the point.
  17. "We're four games in." How many do we plan on taking? We are 1-3 just under 1/4th of the way into the season, and this was almost certainly our easiest stretch of consecutive games. Is seven enough? Ten? More? What exactly is training camp and preseason for? Even teams that use it to actually prepare their players for the games that count (starting at game 1, not game 7, 10, 14, or 17) struggle to get that accomplished. Those that spend their time playing high school and college mind games are even further behind. Guess which group we are in? Has our offense looked prepared for any of our first four opponents? Maybe the New Orleans game, but was that preparation or the blind squirrel finding the acorn. We seem to be a haven for coaches who think they are going to outsmart everybody else but wind up outsmarting themselves.....and that starts at the top.
  18. It all evens out. There were people predicting Denver was going to make strides, but there were also people predicting we were going to win double-digit games. Some also had the Saints challenging the Bucs (I have no idea why). All those people were wrong on those points. And some of the teams that were predicted to be rock bottom have played okay, and better than expected. We play one of them twice (Falcons). Atlanta is not going anywhere, but they look better than we do at this point. But, we just emerged from September which is notorious for giving hope to some teams that are fools' gold and casting doubts on some teams that wind up being very good. Regardless, our major problem is looking completely unprepared and lost on offense. We have also shown that when we are in a position to assert ourselves and grab the win, the coaching staff has no ideal how to do that. That latter one tends to mitigate the "any given Sunday" potential.
  19. It would be handy on Sundays, or so it seems. Change your name to General Burkhalter and you can send Rhule to the Russian Front.
  20. Uh-oh. Next up: competitions. Brought to you by Matt Rhule. Creator of "The Process," progress you can't see, and other fine products.
