I have no issue with the man. I love him as a former Panther. I just dont think hes ever going to be the answer at qb any more nor do I think signing him to a giant extension would have been the right move either, so I dont see it as a mistake that initiated a lot of panic moves. Extending him would have been just as much of a panic move if not more so.

Panthers' passer rating when targeted leaders (Offense)
Tr3ach replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
They have had plenty of drops that were entirely their fault. -
Simpleton view? Most fans were happy with the moves besides some concern over the Darnold move. Hindsight is 20/20. I think maybe you're coming with the naive view if you really dont think most of the haters have hated him since Cam, then using mistakes after they happen to reinforce the argument you already had. It seems more like confirmation bias.

I think a majority of the people who are so adamant about firing him were lost the second they didn't give Cam the big extension he wanted. There is no winning back some of those.

Sure, but every coach is going to make mistakes. Especially a new coach that is also basically in the GM role as well. Now it's basically see if they learn from those next time or dont. I just feel like it's going to take 1 more season to really know anything.
-
That was a low risk high reward move. The dumb part of that whole thing was picking up his 5th year option when they didnt need to.
-
Sure. I dont think there were a huge amount of mistakes though. He inherited an old team at the very start of a rebuild. Hes definitely made mistakes for sure but it can take time to learn how to be a head coach in the NFL I would imagine.
-
Sure but look at the roster turnover we have had in the past season and a half. It's almost a totally different roster and much much younger. I think it could be hard to tell anything for sure in that amount of time.
-
Yea I'm not sure if I think he can be successful or not. I do know most of the teams that quickly churn through head coaches never seem to find much success though.

I really dont think Rhule's seat is even hot yet. He is on season 2 of a complete rebuild. The 3-0 start ruined everyone's expectations of where the team actually was on that rebuild. While the contract doesnt mean much to Tepper in the long run most likely, I dont think he gave him a 7 year deal to fire him 1.5 seasons into a total rebuild. I'm not saying I think Rhule is for sure the answer, this is just what I think. He will have next season almost regardless I think. New OC and they are finding a qb that their fates are tied to this offseason.

I'm not sure what these sacrificial lamb posts are about. Last year his play calling was garbage in the red zone, this year it was garbage basically all around. Especially if you wanted a balanced attack or adjustments. He was fired because he was in over his head and bad at his job. I'm not sure what about that makes him a sacrificial lamb.

Henderson yes. Gilmore no.

That's pretty much been par for the course this season if you look at pass protection grades specifically.
-
Those were both trying to make value gambles in my opinion.

I agree with that but we are also in year 2 of a rebuild. Before the 3-0 start everyone knew that. Even the front office seemed to get blinded by that and try to jump into win now mode and trash the rebuild. I think Rhule will get one more season. Hopefully not Brady though. They will have to find a qb they fully commit to and their fate will be directly tied to him. No more going to the scrap heap and getting a pass.

Cam Newton should be done as a starting QB in this league
Tr3ach replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get what you're saying and I agree to an extent but Darnold definitely started catching some heat after his 2nd loss and those two guys cant be evaluated exactly the same. Most likely neither are the answer. In the nfl you cant judge a 24 year old qb who is all potential who the coaches though they could mold and a 32 year old QB who is physically on the down turn and has had multiple major injuries that have seemed to be nagging him years later, the same. Of course you have to look at those two situations a bit differently when you are trying to figure out your qb for the future. -

Some people have been saying that throughout the season was regardless of who the qb was. Some are coincidentally just starting for the most part. -
We are seeing the end of Cam's career
Tr3ach replied to Hayden Panettiere's topic in Carolina Panthers
You all that are arguing are right. Cam has clearly shown he is the QB of the future.... -
So does PJ start next week? Does anyone even care?
Tr3ach replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He had 5 completions and 2 interceptions. It was an almost historically bad game. My argument isnt that Darnold is better than Cam. My argument is that some people are really overvaluing Cam. -
Hard to say. There were 5 completions on his part. Doesnt sound very sustainable and I imagine that puts the defense out there a lot to get gassed. What was the time of possession? I havent looked

So everyone else is at fault when Cam does the exact same thing Darnold got ripped for? Got it. -
Cam is here on a 1 year deal. Why would they do that?
