@*FreeFua* @travisura You ask a question. You get an answer. And immediately start flailing about how it's an unreasonable demand from a first overall pick that you both are saying is playing at a high level now. Jordan Love Kirk Cousins Joe Burrow Jaden Daniels Matthew Stafford Lamar Jackson All these guys have played at a high level throughout multiple starts over the course of their career save Daniels who is a rookie but has largely played spectacularly. If you want low standards for Bryce Young just say that and we will agree to disagree. But if this kid is ever going to become a franchise QB it isn't going to happen if you expect him to stink against teams like the Eagles.
-
Lamar Jackson is a different QB altogether and a threat to run practically every play his game is not a pure passer. He does not need that to succeed. Bryce does.
-
300 passing yards minimum 2 passing touchdowns.

No one is denying that the Texans have clearly made a striking attempt at surrounding their QB with talent. That being said in his rookie year virtually nobody had them pegged as going to the playoffs let alone winning a playoff game. But we also have to be honest that along the way Stroud has elevated people around him. Is he having a down year this season compared to his rookie year? You could certainly make that case. But he's still playing like a top 20 QB. Cam went to a Super Bowl with Ted Ginn Jr as his #1 WR. He also had us competive more often than not in his early years despite having the likes of Byron Bell at left tackle. Cam is just a different dude in this context of the conversation. It just doesn't compare.

Sounds good to me.

How about this. We'll revisit this discussion after the Eagles game. Deal? If Bryce lights them up as the current #1 defense I'll happily eat crow and become a believer.
-
He stinks. Kicker is a need. It is what it is.

Oh come off it with the sob story. We invested 150 million dollars in two players on the oline for Bryce. No we could not afford to bring in a top WR and TE on top of it. We and him are facing these circumstances because of what we gave up to select him. 1-2 touchdowns per game is the bare minimum for any first round QB let alone a first overall pick. The Bucs gave us numerous gifts yesterday despite us leaving points on the board multiple times including electing to take Bryce Young off the field twice with 1 yard to go in Bucs territory. Right now at best our first overall pick is playing comparably to Aidan O'Connell.

Legette is not immune from criticism. He needs to improve. It's been discussed plenty here. But he is a rookie. And for months people here gave Bryce a pass throughout his rookie year. There is no reason we can't be realistic about Legette. He was unpolished coming out of college with a limited track record of success same with Mingo. It was Dan Morgan who decided to draft him. Even Bryce Young's father pushed for Legette. So you will have to forgive me if I'm not fully on board with making him the culprit of our woes. At some point also our coaches need to actually develop players too.

He's made improvements from the worst QB in the league and as I've stated he looks confident and it's night and day compared to where he was. I am glad to see that. Still these honest conversations have to come down to discussing what is ultimately his ceiling in our offense and what it will require us to further invest in order to have him both meet that ceiling and remain there. If we had scooped him up as a UDFA or took a mid to late round flyer on him that would be one thing. But he is a first overall pick. We've made very significant investments around him already and it looks like we will add even more. At some point he has to ELEVATE the pieces around him instead of the pieces around doing the elevating. If not. We need to have a fallback plan in place.

We have a multitude of issues but short of trading a haul for one of the top 5 wide receivers in the NFL we are not going to ever have a WR who is perfect across the board. Especially not one who is very young. And at the end of the day when you select a player first overall that player is supposed to help mask some of the issues. Instead we are relegated to suggesting we need elite talent at every position.
-
Pickens and Freirmuth are good but not great. The common thread is who? Mike Tomlin. Man gets rid of so called talented players like it's another day at the office and keeps on winning. Russell Wilson was laughed out of Denver everyone has said he's washed let's be real here. Many people have been asking why Bryce had so many attempts and Chuba barely got the ball for the bulk of the game. Pretty plainly obvious Canales was trying to give Bryce some confidence and some glory. Yet once again we maxed out at 14 points from our QB and elected to take him off the field not once but twice on 4th and 1 in opp territory. Face it while he has some upside as a passer between the 20's when it gets down to it in the red zone we remain limited with Bryce at QB. You can incorrectly crow about people wanting him to fail all you want my brother. The situation is the situation.
-
Russell Wilson over here leading an offense to 44 points while we slogged our way to 23 and had to go to overtime to even get that many. And against the 29th ranked defense haha. Oh wow digging into the numbers are even worse. Wilson had 8 fewer attempts than Bryce Young yet he finished with 414 passing yards at 10.9 yards per attempt. This guy is 36 years old. Meanwhile we rejoice because our guy at 23 "almost" eclipsed 300 yards passing.
-
By definition the team as a whole was more competitive. Especially the defense that had been getting a great deal of flack for weeks now. Playcalling left a lot to be desired though. Especially on 4th down. That was pre Riverboat Ron esque and not where we want to be after hiring an offensive minded head coach.
-
It's legit wild people are saying #1 WR before anything else after the entire reason for trading up and drafting Bryce at #1 was not needing to surround him with elite talent. We've already spent 150 million in FA just to put two massive linemen in front of him. What more does this kid need? Build up the defense and if Bryce still can't consistently lead this offense to points you draft another QB in 26'.

You aren't actually insinuating I'm coping by acknowledging the truth about Eddie are you? He's let us down in big moments before this isn't anything new. We've long known who he is. But we traded up to draft a QB at #1 overall. If we can't trust him with the ball on 4th and 1 in opposition territory multiple times then kicker is the least of our worries anyways.- 2,035 replies

I agree with you in principle that yes it should be automatic. But I assume you've watched a lot of football over the last few decades as I have. I see huge differences in kicking now versus years ago. There just aren't kickers like that anymore who can consistently hold that clutch label for even one or two seasons let alone the bulk of a career. What is the culprit idk maybe it's a generational thing but the position has definitely changed in that regard. That's why we hired an offensive minded head coach anyway. To prevent ourselves from being backed into that corner where we put all the pressure on a kicker. Otherwise we could have just hired another defensive coordinator.- 2,035 replies

Well look let's be completely honest with one another. You and I both know Eddie isn't it and that "most accurate" label being thrown around was a facade waiting to be blown to bits.- 2,035 replies

He threw the ball 46 times. He'd better be close to 300 yards lol- 2,035 replies

Even with all you mentioned we ultimately lost by playing conservatively. After Eddie missed the first time we should have went for it on 4th and 1. To have done it twice is unforgiveable.
-
In all seriousness. He isn't a bum. But he got worked by Bowles today. And that's with what was actually a pretty good day by our defense.
