Former RB Mike Davis on Rhule and CMC
frankw replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's wild this man has generational wealth for being a complete fraud. -
I mean not for nothing but this is literally what we drafted him for. He was already supposed to be ahead of the curve in this area. Guy was regularly billed as a smaller Peyton Manning in terms of his football IQ before the draft.
-
Pick swap and a 4th round pick. I mean that's best case scenario. Now we can move on. I'm eager to see Canales develop this young WR core.
-
So did the Panthers initiate this by making him "available for the right price" or was this something Thielen himself pushed for? I also never saw this quote he made about JJ McCarthy back in June. https://sports.yahoo.com/article/panthers-adam-thielen-both-asked-182711572.html Thielen believes McCarthy is built for big moments and will eventually show the world the skillset that won the Michigan Wolverines a national championship in 2023/2024. He even said McCarthy could be the “face of the league.” “I have high expectations for him. I've been able to be around a little bit through some of the time last summer... back in Minnesota, and I think he has the ability to be one of the great quarterbacks this season and the face of this league at some point. You know, I think he's got every tool and intangible that you can have,” Thielen said. “Obviously, it's a difficult league and it's not gonna just be easy, but I think he has the ability to handle adversity to be able to be big in big moments, as you saw when he was in college. I think he's got a great support staff around him, whether it be the coaches or the trainers.” Sounds like he's had one foot out the door for some time now.

Everything revolves around Bryce This Year
frankw replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
We'll know something fairly quickly. Once again opening the season with back to back road games. On the one hand it sucks. But on the other hand I'd rather it be this way. -
At the end of the day success of each is dependent on the other. And also at the end of the day as the third year QB the first overall pick and the face of the franchise the onus is on our QB to guide the young WR's. They have to elevate each other.
-
I call it like I see it. When a player plays poorly or makes a stupid mistake I acknowledge it. Did so when XL got himself ejected in preseason. But there's definitely a lack of consistency when people relentlessly attack a WR who has yet to play a single game in his second season yet make every excuse for the starting QB.

Official Panthers Roster Cuts (Updated)
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
At this point we're all waiting to see what "Evero likes" bring actual positive results. -
taking a look at other teams cut lists
frankw replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
True but he will assuredly be on a roster at some point later in the season. Somebody will always underwhelm or get hurt and open another door. The carousel never ends. -
Makes no sense. Bryce Young as a rookie at times looked like a fish out of water as an NFL QB. XL despite his issues with the drops was getting open and blowing past defensive backs. Definitely noticing a tendency from certain people who harp on XL more than others.

Moose was also a victim of time as well. His first season was 1996. We went through multiple QB's before getting to Jake Delhomme and by that point Moose was 30 and he was also playing opposite Steve Smith who was commanding the ball. He took the money with the Bears and honestly considering the QB's they had up there he put up respectable numbers. He eventually made his way back to Carolina and still put up good numbers at 35 years old. But it's fair to wonder if he had been in Carolina the whole time with consistent quality QB play if he would have had even more 1,000 yard seasons. But we'll never know.

You. Like Icege. Who is once again spamming poo reactions on my posts despite having me on ignore and apparently having endless amounts of time on his hands to do so. Are just as toxic as those you accuse others of. You can keep flailing and complaining about the posts. You are also the same one who made it a point to complain endlessly about how negative the board is but here you going off the deep end and making it personal because you are being exposed to points that challenge your narrative. I will continue to visit the huddle hoping this franchise and our first overall pick in particular can somehow turn things around. You can keep attacking others and pretending to be this impartial beacon of productive conversation in a sea of darkness if it makes you feel better. Do what makes you happy bud.

We'll see. I'll be keeping tabs on the snap counts for Moore versus the younger receivers.
-
I'm not bothered by David Moore over Renfrow they are both about the same age. But I do wonder if Canales has guys he's possibly loyal to maybe to a fault and Moore could be one. We'll have to revisit it.
-
I'm getting the sense you just don't like facing these comparisons and truths so you're just lashing out and making it personal because you are one of the main people who have made it your mission to carry water for Young. The Panthers have been poorly run for a long time now. They've made many mistakes with the best QB in franchise history. They've made mistakes with Bryce. But they've also invested IMO more offensively in a short time than they have really for any other young quarterback. But you don't like being told that because it doesn't fit your victimhood the world is against Bryce Young and he's always had the worst people around him narrative you've created in your head. That's on you.
-
Do we really need to argue over Kelvin Benjamin? Dude isn't worth anyone dying on a hill over. He had IMO potential to be a great WR. Which is true. But he ate himself out of a career and ultimately alienated anyone who was in his corner. That's on him. At the end of the day he's another Panthers bust. It is what it is.
-
He was always facing an uphill battle and honestly was a longshot to carve out much of a role on a long term basis all hype aside. But hey we gave him a cool 1.22 million bucks to hang out with us through camp and preseason so that's better than some other folks. Good luck to him.
-
Olsen is the best move they made and honestly it was dumb luck. The Bears got absolutely fleeced. Shockey was here one season. Our GM got into a petty dispute with Steve Smith and sent him packing only for us to get wiped off the field by him when we faced him with the Ravens. The tale of the Panthers through most of Cam's years involved comical failures of drafting offensive talent. If it hurts your feelings for me to discuss this well I'm sorry but you'll keep on living somehow bud.

Josina Anderson: Panthers NOT trading Adam Thielen
frankw replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Reminds me of Gordon Hayward's wife when he was here with the Hornets. Between the Thielen's and the Dalton's were just making these families more rich for no reason other than they are "nice" people. Then again this is the same franchise that handed over Matt Rhule generational wealth with a big grin. -
https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/400951558 Anyone remember this game? With Greg Olsen out Cam Newton had Ed fuging Dickson at almost 200 receiving yards and no run game to speak of only 28 rushing yards in 4 quarters. Man put on a passing clinic.
-
I mean Evans isn’t a speed guy himself he can be deceptively quick. His resume is his catch radius and his hands and using his size to his advantage. That's the comparison. Watch KB in 2014.

It's interesting taking a stroll down memory lane. Sobering too. Beginning with the 2011 draft. The entire draft outside of Cam Newton were off the team within 2 seasons. That's insane. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2011_draft.htm The 2012 draft we gave Cam Newton Joe Adams in the 4th round https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2011_draft.htm The 2013 draft we gave him Edmund Kugbila and Kenjon Barner https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2013_draft.htm The 2014 draft we finally gave him a first round WR. Who he then proceeded to lead us to a Super Bowl without. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2014_draft.htm The 2015 draft we gave him Devin Funchess Daryl Williams and Cameron Artis Payne https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2015_draft.htm The 2016 draft after a Super Bowl appearance we gave him Beau Sandland https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2016_draft.htm 2017 is the year where we went big with our first 3 picks. CMC Curtis Samuel and Taylor Moton. Unfortunately by then it was too late as seasoned Panthers fans know. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/car/2017_draft.htm In conclusion. That's the prime years of the only MVP in franchise history where we basically did fug all in the draft offensively. I mean this is night and day compared to the OL investment today and 2 first round WR's in the first three seasons. Let's put away the violin.

KB could have been another Mike Evans. Guy was just a headcase and didn't want to be great. But the talent was there. But yes we had a former QB at WR we had a former defensive lineman at left tackle at one point on top of keeping Byron Bell for too long. There was that one preseason where Corey Brown had like 20 drops. Ted Ginn was notorious for it and nearly lost us that Giants game in 2015 over it. First overall picks have to flash even in the less than ideal circumstances. Why this is a controversial or unfair notion now is beyond me but it's always been that way.

This simply isn't true no matter how many times you or anyone else tries to spread lies. Predraft I wanted Stroud over Bryce yes. But once the pick was made I was fully in support of our pick. I even defended the guy from some other people still clowning on him about being small in preseason of 2023. But everything changed once he started playing poorly in his rookie season. There were variables that contributed to his struggles but he hurt the team a lot too. He ended up finishing with one of the statistical worst rookie seasons in decades. There were many people concluding he was a bad pick. I still didn't outright call him a bust though. Now 2024 the stakes got even higher. There was a great deal of back and forth leading up to the regular season that year. Bryce made some comments about taking time off and doing mundane things and that didn't go over particularly well. Eventually things got quite contentious and there were many heated arguments heading into camp. I actually left for a few months to see how things would go and predictably all the derailed threads and bitter disputes continued. That preseason of 2024 there were also many discussions about our lack of playing starters and how preseason ultimately didn't matter. Then we opened the season with Bryce putting in two of the worst QB perfomances in a long time in two of the worst losses in a long time. Ultimately Bryce played better down the stretch after the benching. But there is still a great deal more we need to see from him early and across the entire upcoming season. He needs to play like a top 15 QB. It simply has to happen given where we drafted him and the pieces that we have built around him. He's got more than other QB's have had to work with especially along the offensive line. But if your opinion is that anyone that is concerned he may regresses again are simply haters I would argue it's you that is the problem. Every other QB before Bryce has faced these questions and criticisms. None of it is new. None if it will ever stop. That comes with the territory of the position and it is the same across the league.
