I've thought about this often and at different times during the off season and I've fluctuated up and down quite a bit. This off season has been like no other for me personally as it's really forced me to question many ideas and philosophies or opinions due to how strange it's all been. Since we hired Rhule I was all in on building up slowly through the draft ad being smart with draft picks, not reaching too much and also trying to accumulate lots of picks and just slowly building and improving the roster. Not overpaying our players to resign just because they were our best player at that position or if the positional value didn't justify it. Those were things we had always done and I was tired of it and felt that it always hurt us. So early on, I had thought about us maybe going for Darnold if the Jets did did go QB as I thought Lance would be a reach at 8 and likely the only option possible and I don't really believe in trading up very much unless a player just looks really great. I thought for a mid round pick, bring him in to compete with Teddy and see what happened. I was never a big Darnold fan but thought he could be a good NFL QB and I'm big on not giving up on these QBs that are forced into bad situations because it's not fair, Like Testeverde (spelling?) or Tannehill or Cousins. Then the Watson train took off and I got caught up in it like many others. The there was the Stafford trade almost happening, that got me more excited about a QB. Then I started really liking Lance when I read his story and was impressed by how far he had came from a small town QB no one wanted to play QB and so went to NDS and was amazing and I could imagine him becoming a cinderella story. Then the Watson mess happened followed by the possibility the Jets want to trade their pick, I watched Wilson's pro days and saw the 49ers jump to 3 and now I'm totally lost as to what I feel/want Carolina to do and at this point I have no idea other than I'll trust their judgement and see what happens. Which ironically has brought me back full circle to just yesterday wondering if maybe the Panthers should try to bring in Darnold to compete with Teddy and see what happens and use the picks to just improve our team overall. At pick 8 we should be able to get an LT and OL in the first round are statistically the safest picks every draft. I've also started checking out Simms' evaluations from this year and the last few. As with everyone he's not always right but he's been pretty good and especially recently. He definitely goes against the general opinions and has some interesting takes. He has evaluated Mond higher than Lance and Fields. I do find that interesting because when I watched him at the senior bowl and did think he showed signs and was by far the best QB who played. I would now say take what we have at 8 and then either trade for Darnold or Draft Mond and see what happens and concentrate on improving the overall team. Could Darnold be our Tannehill? Could Mond be our Wilson? I have no idea but would it hurt to much to maybe spend a 3rd on either to find out?

Is the possible Jets trade for number 2 out the window? I imagine it is but please break it to me gently. I only just started imagining Wilson in Carolina about 2 days ago. Today I feel like the kid praying for that super cool bike I want for Christmas.

Well, if this does in fact mean we will not draft a QB at 8, at least we should be able to solve our hole at LT which has been a problem for the longest time and would be the 2nd most important move we could make. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade. KEEP POUNDING!!!! -
While this is true, his first 2 seasons he didn't touch the football side of the organization. That was still Richardson's guys. We can fault him for that I guess. Last season was the first that he concentrated on the football side and we got and up and coming head coach with a modern philosophy signed long term for stability and now we have the same in our new GM. The results from last season were better than anyone's expectations even with this plague. The moves made during this off season are much better than we've been used to. It's still way too early to judge but I think so far things are looking more promising than at anytime since we almost won the SB. Hopefully, that feeling lasts longer this time.

Back up LB that is good at ST sound smart to me. I'd like to know the contract details but as is makes sense.

I would say yes at this point. It looks like we've signed at least 4 starters for cheap next season and maybe a 5th depending on camp. (keep your eyes on Fox), not to mention the OL may start at the beginning of the season by default. (don't give up on this staff's ability to find skills that match the system). I personally cannot remember a more strategically precise FA in the last 20 years. Every signing has a reason and a purpose. Will they all pan out? History says no but I like the chances on most of these guys and they are all (except 1) YOUNG!
-
Yes it is. Usually I feel like we've always just signed players because we need a player at X position. Now, I feel we are signing players because we need a player at X position that can do Y and Z. Very different mentality to me. Me likey

Well I know we played mostly zone and switched to some man on 3rd downs as we could make stops on 3rd down. I'm not sure if they really prefer to play zone or did it out of necessity. I should research Snow's coverage philosophy a bit more as I honestly haven't before. It's possible that when they have the pass rush working well that they would prefer a more zone coverage type. Does anyone here know Snow's preference in coverage schemes? -
Yeah sure a little but that's not why they signed him. Check out this stat from last season Field Position G REC YDS AVG LNG TD 1st 1st% 20+ 40+ Own 1-20 - by Yard Line 1 9 9 9 0 0 0 0 0 Own 21-50 - by Yard Line 12 226 18.8 59 1 10 83.3 4 1 Opp 49-20 - by Yard Line 13 185 14.2 41 0 10 76.9 4 1 Opp 19-1 - by Yard Line 5 18 3.6 8 3 4 80 0 0 Look at those 1st down numbers! ahh ok. Thanks. Didn't know he was a Man coverage guy with speed. Then yeah, I could see that as a fit. -
I don't think they brought him here to block. He's here to attack the middle of the field for 1st downs and stop teams from concentrating on the outside only. He should give our offense another dimension that we were lacking last season. Solid pick up.

Ok, this is nice little signing. 26 yrs old, cheap and stretches the field. Averaged 14.1 yards per catch and had 24 1st downs. Looks like we're using analytics in this FA. I'm really loving this free agency so far. This is the most interesting and exciting FA I can recall. I would say even if there aren't any really flashy signings but I think it's actually BECAUSE there aren't any flashy signings and instead look intelligently designed to improve depth and add specific productivity at an affordable price. This is exactly how I think a smart organization is supposed to treat the off season. Are we watching Moneyball here? I'm feeling something strange and unfamiliar. Is it hope?

I'm not really familiar with Adoree beyond what I've read about him. He doesn't look like a bad player but why does he fit what our coaches want at CB exactly? I don't see that connection. -
Go on record. Who still wants Watson?

Whoever posted this thread is really lacking in judgment. Aren't the other 2 threads dedicated to this BS enough? Did we really need another place for everyone to spew hate at one another? Oh we did? OK. -

At 5:22 - 5:32, he's throwing into double coverage. It's a great pass for sure. But was it the right read? He has single coverage on the opposite side and both receivers are more open, are they not?

Is he making 10 mil a year? I saw something about 4.5 mil Kyle Fuller Kyle Brandon Fuller Position: CB 5-11, 194lb (180cm, 87kg) Team: Chicago Bears Born: February 16, 1992 (Age: 29-031d) in Baltimore, MD College: Virginia Tech (College Stats) Weighted Career AV (100-95-...): 44 (2230th overall since 1960) High School: Mount St. Joseph (MD) Draft: Chicago Bears in the 1st round (14th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. Current salary: 4,500,000

Just looked at his current salary, if we have the space and he'll take a similar offer then yeah we should definitely take a shot. He's been a solid player for years and still under 30. He would make another good addition to our new defense. If they wanted him to take a pay cut then perhaps we could get him for 4-5 mil a year? I have no idea how much space we have right now though. But I must say I'm liking this off season so far. Regardless of what happens at QB I'm feeling good about heading into next season.

I would like to hear that we had a decent true FS in mind. I know we might not have 2 great CBs but we have a lot of them. Seems like we're really lacking FSs though unless I'm forgetting someone. Or we have a player listed somewhere else who can play that role.
-
Also, besides the CB all of our FAs are between the ages of 25-28? I like that we're staying young even in FA.
-
So almost 20% of his catches are for TDs. If nothing else he's a redzone specialist and that was a point of weakness for us last season so sound good to me.

Not according to the science. Nine women being attacked in this way over the course of one year could be considered a stretch too. Not one reporting it to anyone before or contacting police could be seen as a stretch too. This lawyer being the contact of all victims could be seen as a stretch too. Non one reporting anything until Texans are ready to trade him could be seen as a stretch too. The science mentions nothing about odds of probability. It's true with everyone and all types of people. Ever tried the word of mouth game? Say one thing to one person and let them repeat it till the end and it-s completely wrong. Ever seen a fight and asked everyone what happened. Everyone says something completely different? Groups can even increase the odds of false memory.

Sorry, but that is inaccurate. In psychology it's referred to as false memories. The difference of memory from reality is exasperated with time and can even be manipulated. This has been studied thoroughly and proven to be true. So, a person can believe what they are saying is true because they have convinced themselves that it is true or have been lead into believing they remember something in a particular way. This is often the problem with people making accusations long after events have taken place. There have even been studies about this and how even a recent event can be falsely remembered particularly if there is manipulation involved. So the point is, it's been proven that people can remember things incorrectly after even a short period of time and the longer that time is the more the memory can differentiate from reality. It's also been proven that a person's memory can be manipulated to a certain goal. The ladies could actually not be liars and yet at the same time not be telling what really happened. Yeah man, I actually didn't mean to imply that you were and SJW and I definitely didn't want to get into a name calling situation. I was getting irritated in general and I meant the comment in general and not at you. There were a lot of different conversations going on at the same time and it was just all going away from football and into other realms. I specifically joined this site to avoid these kind of conversations and felt myself being pulled into them and needed to step away for a little and refocus. I came back into this conversation only to apologize to you and set the record straight. Didn't mean to come across as attacking you. This is a very emotional topic for me as well. My sister and her daughter have both been in abusive relationships and both have been put into the hospital by abusive boyfriends. I have seen what they went through and both went to the police and had physical injuries and immediately talked to people about what happened. I understand that everyone is different but these accusations are really serious and there must be some sort of collaboration and I just can't believe that no one either went to is is going to involve police. If they aren't then their lawyer should be instead of talking to and leaking information to the media. The way that this is happening so far is what contributes to victims of assault not being believed. Especially in todays society. This is not the correct way to deal with predator's and it isn't helping anyone and even the women if these events actually occurred as leaked and it's not protecting other potential victims as it's not removing the problem. Now, I will stick to the football conversations.
