To be fair that 2015 team had a lot of guys from a roster that had went 12-4 in 2013 and made the playoffs and one playoff game in 2014 and we had a lot of talent. still I do think we are heading up and should be better than last year. The only question is how much better? I do think Bryce will be better. More experience and a better WR group should help. XL is the one I’m not as confident about. He played poorly last season but I do think that if he can just fix the drops then he can be a solid wr. He seems to know what his problem was and worked on it. Hopefully he will improve. He admitted that he didn’t work as hard as he should have last year and I think that could mean he has focused hard this year. We will soon see.

To be fair I do recall us running the ball a lot so it’s hard to get those numbers up. -
Yeah it’s hard to get used to that. I still think of FS as more of the coverage guy and SS as your run support. Our defense is different. Maybe that’s why we haven’t been good on D? Honestly I’m fine with us not signing him and giving Ransom the reps. Let’s see if he’s our future, get him some experience. I honestly would prefer if he played over Nick Scott but I think the coach prefers the experience.

Contracts like this make me wish there were caps on what players could get paid. Too many times we see players get big contracts then they don’t live up to it and it handicaps the team. We need more ways to benefit the teams. in the end it’s the fans who end up suffering because your team gets stuck with an injured player and can’t sign new ones or resign the good players you have.

Hendon Hooker signed to practice squad

What’s crazy is we had Baker and Darnold both on our team and PJ somehow was the best out of them at the time. imagine where we would be if we just kept one. Well for one I bet Canales wouldn’t be our HC because without Baker tampa wouldnt have had that good offense that got him recognized. I really think that if we would have just kept baker we would have been fine. I think he still hadnt fully recovered from his injury plus he was just thrown into a new team where he didn’t have a good offensive line, new playbook, team mates and coaches. He was set up to fail. I would have loved to see what he would have done with Reich as HC. heck I think Darnold could have been decent if he stayed too. He actually played well his last season with us and we seen how well he can do with a competent coach and players around him. -

Didn’t he have a major surgery done to him? still, 27, 32 doesn’t matter he hasn’t shown improvement. I doubt a change of scenery will change that. I doubt think the system he was in or the team was the issue with him. I would honestly rather have a young QB who maybe raw but could actually be good with time and coaching. I don’t get why everyone has such low expectations for back up QBs. Back up QBs can be developed into starters. Why invest in a player who doesn’t have much potential? -

you make a very valid argument. I still think the data maybe a little off because 1. Bryce hasn’t had time to fully develop and have the training wheels off. 2. He was a different player during the last couple of weeks compared to the first. So how do those numbers look? has Bryce turned the corner and those last weeks are him finally figuring things out or did he just happen to play well for a few weeks due to luck and random factors. we’ve see bad players able to to play well for a few weeks before. it kinda reminds me of a few years ago how people said we had a top pass defense when in reality we didn’t, the numbers weren’t that bad because the attempts teams passed against us were a lot lower because teams mostly ran against us. If you actually looked at per attempt stats, pressures, sacks, turnovers you would have seen that our pass defense wasn’t that good. -

The problem I have with Hooker is he is already 27. So all that potential you have in a player is gone. He is already in his prime. He’s shown nothing for the lions who is a great team with great weapons and great offensive line. You think that’s going to change here? -
4th round pick for a 33 year old with one year left and we signed in FA? That’s a good deal!

taking a look at other teams cut lists

I’m actually fine with our TE group. I would like to see us upgrade at ILB, maybe safety and CB. I think we are good at WR. I thought Corley could have been a good player but I guess he wasn’t doing good at all. I came across this article about Corley from today. I know sometimes a change of scenery can really help turn around a player and we’ve seen plenty of players from the jets end up being good other places. I just don’t know if Corley is that guy. https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nfl/jets-insider-shares-embarrassing-fact-about-malachi-corleys-release-2119816 -
I was really rooting for him after seeing that video about his struggles. I always thought he was a solid and underrated player. I thought for sure he would have made the team after hearing all the hype and how he made that overthrown catch by Plummer behind the line and still was able to gain a yard or two off it. Plummer really overthrew him each time yet he was able to still not lose yards. I think he still could play in the nfl. I think he may need a few months to get into top form though. Hopefully he will get signed to another team.

He looked so bad in that last preseason game. Overthrowing screen passes and just looking lost out there. I don’t know what our staff sees in him. I don’t know if it’s cause networking and he is close to some coaches, if he’s some great film guy or does something amazing in the locker room to want to be kept here. he was never even great in college. His stats are just okay. I know that it doesn’t mean that he can’t be a decent nfl player but I just don’t understand why out of all the other Qbs out there that he’s the one we keep. in my opinion there’s so many more younger QBs who have way more potential and/or had better college careers. Why wouldn’t you want to invest in a player that you think could end up being a starter?

Dude must be a bust considering one of the eagles starting guards is hurt. On top of that he couldn’t make it on a bad Texans offensive line or eagles top offensive line coaching couldn’t help him.
-
I just want the truth. I understand that the truth hurts sometimes but I would rather be told the truth that hurts than a lie that makes me feel good. for example I was told how great our D was under Evero and how if you cherry pick certain stats that our d was actually good. But the truth was we were in the bottom of almost every category except pass yards and that was probably because teams ran the ball down our throats and didn’t need to pass because they were ahead by so much. Context is key. Then coming into this season we have one of the worst defenses all around. The truth was we weren’t that good the year before but some people didn’t wanna hear it so they tried to twist it to make it seem like we were better than what we were. This season there was no way to deny how bad our defense was. If you actually listened to the truth you would have realized this going into the season but the lies gave people false hope.
-
Nope. Maybe if we were one player away from winning a SB but why would you bring as young as we are? Why not save the money for the future? Why not give reps to younger talent in hoping to find a young starting CB. I also don’t feel like investing in a 30 year old CB.

I don’t get why people hating on Purdy. You don’t put up the numbers he did for 3 years and just be “average” otherwise you would have had QBs who you claim are better put up way better numbers.
-
Well, the Niners just doomed themselves to mediocrity

I don’t get the hate for Purdy. You don’t put up those kind of numbers in a 3 year period just because you’re on a good team or have good coaching. Despite all the injuries to his own team and injuries to himself he still had a 96 qb rating and has a qb rating of 104.9 in 3 years over 40 games. Heck he was in the mvp race in the 2023 season. -
I feel like this is a really easy schedule. Lots of teams without an established QB or that wasn’t good last season.
-
Panthers fans know this. How many times were we looking at getting a top pick only to go on a winning streak near the end of the season to get out of the top 5 picks

Honestly I expect more from Princely Umanmielen than Scourton this year. Scourton is only 20 years old and won’t be 21 until August where Princley is 23 and was a 5th senior with 2 different SEC teams. They are different kinds of players and Scourton may even get more reps on the rushing downs but I can see Princely getting more sacks. -
I trust Morgan when it comes to LBs so I think Wallace will do well.

Now there’s a shot at Dj Johnson or Barno making the roster

Well more time for our rookies. Let’s see what they have.

My biggest fear is what if he puts up just okay numbers. Numbers where he wasn’t bad but not great either. Just middle of the road. That makes the decision a lot tougher. Because that would mean his numbers did improve but it’s not as good as you wanted. then we would have to think about giving him another season to prove himself.
