Panthers' Offense: Some Core Concerns Surfacing Early
Panthering replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah this is my gripe as well. I understand other teams have better talent than us but it still looks like teams like the Rams, Dolphins, 49ers of the world are playing an entirely different sport PRE-SNAP. I am not even addressing what happens after the snap, which hasn't been good either. It's a tough pill for fans to swallow after Reich openly talked about how vanilla preseason is and how he specifically called it that way and said it was "good" that it was boring. To then trot out the exact same stuff is just brutal to watch unfold for a team that's so talent deficient on that side of the ball. They simply aren't helping themselves here, I would much rather see some creativity to open it up and take shots. They did this on one playcall that I liked, someone set a pick to release Mingo (I think) up the right sideline, he was open, then Bryce overthrew it. I can live with those plays! It really is a shame that Laviska is such a dud of a route runner that he can't even get on the field as a WR in the regular season. We need his speed out there desperately. -
Look all I'll say is I had my first doubts about Bryce creep in last night. He's getting a full season from me and he'll be back for next year, so I'm going to try not to lose my marbles over this. But the fun part about having a rookie QB is the unknown particularly their floor/ceiling potential. Last night was a rough go at it unfortunately, and my confidence in Bryce & this staff has taken a hit. The thing I always struggled with about Bryce was his size obviously, but also how to weigh how "smart" he is vs physical traits. If your QB is "smart" i.e. smartest rookie QB ever, yada yada yada, then he damn well better be Einstein out there with the physical limitations Bryce has. It's clear that while he does process the game well and make reads, he is still limited by hesitation to sling the rock into tight windows due to a lack of confidence and arm strength. Then when you look at the other side of the coin in the physical traits side (the other QBs in this draft), then you can start there and slowly build them up to be a "smart" QB. That was always the big question, we went with the "smart", mature, professional QB and I like him a lot, but how good will he be really if he doesn't have above average arm talent, his accuracy dissipates with his confidence, any interior pressure at all will blow up the play due to his size, and one arm from a defensive lineman will take him down a lot of the time. That's what's worrying me a lot right now, and I hate that I'm thinking about this after I wanted Stroud all offseason before switching gears into the Bryce bandwagon. Not hopping off the bandwagon, but I have concerns.

Did Cade Mays get benched or injured?
Panthering replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Probably benched, I was so annoyed at his false start penalty and then didn't hear his name once afterwards. -
I was embarrassed when I saw that
-
His accuracy disappearing tonight is my no 1 concern right now. He had only like two plays where he let it rip by design
-
This was noticeable in pre season too I saw a few people on this board and on X pointing out how much better the offense functioned when Reich wasn’t calling the plays. Best part is that everyone will has already noticed this but the change won’t actually happen until week 9 when we are 2-6 and Young has zero confidence left for this season.

THERE WE GO BRYCE
-
I was too. I got convinced by Bryce too and I even have liked what I’ve seen but tonight is rough. No way around it.
-
Whew I can feel the first doubts about Bryce starting to creep into me right now
-
We can’t string anything together. That’s on coaching
-
Nice drop Rook
-
Bryce you kinda have to get 6 here sorry I don’t make the rules
-
Yeah well he’s still good so quit bitching

Is this thing on?!? Is ANYONE excited?!?
Panthering replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm stoked to watch Bryce and the gang give it another shot. Not expecting a win today, not expecting a win most weeks, but I'm having a blast watching a Rookie QB who I think is pretty good try to figure it out. -
We need a route runner who can get separation, that is Renfrow. He's got good hands to boot too, we should be going after him because he needs to be taking Thielen's routes.

QB School: Bryce Young - Week 1 @ Falcons
Panthering replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am probably coping a bit but the video sort of confirms what I thought I was seeing on Sunday in that the process is there, he's making reads & then decisions based off of those reads, yet the results were just not there. Perhaps on another day aka not his first freaking NFL game ever he'll be able to play at a higher level. I do like how JT pointed out there isn't a lot of improv yet from Bryce and yet that's a strength of his, I agree, and I do think that it'll come out more during this season when he realizes we need that part of his game to win. He's doing the pocket passer thing which is great to see and I think very encouraging but as JT notes, a lot of our first reads are to Thielen for some reason who is just slower than pondwater unfortunately. Rookie QB with these WRs is just going to be tough no matter how you slice it. I wish we had DJ here because he'd be feasting with Bryce. -
Credit to Fitt, who deserves plenty of criticism but not for drafting Zavala, cause holy smokes that might save the season from imploding too early and keep Bryce head on his body.

A&T kid! Loved watching him when he's healthy I really hope he actually passes the physical

All-22 Review: Panthers @ Falcons [Week 1 - 2023]
Panthering replied to TheCasillas's topic in Carolina Panthers
Everything seems coachable so far and can be chalked up to experience. With his mental acuity I still feel good about him, did not realize how often he missed open receivers though so thanks for this cutup. -
Jaycee Horn expected to miss multiple weeks
Panthering replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
Can't predict injuries but we passed on Micah Parsons, Patrick Surtain, and Rashawn Slater for Horn. Parsons is already on a HoF trajectory and the other two are stud starters. Sheesh man. More CJ Henderson = another loss or two coming our way than normal. He's horrible -
Aaron Rodgers got hurt on turf… the Panthers switched to Turf
Panthering replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Turf looked like it grabbed at the cleats and doesn't let the foot get off the surface as easily. Did it to Aaron and Jaycee. -
Green dots over the middle is pretty encouraging for a short QB we just have absolutely no deep threat and Bryce and/or the WRs have bad chemistry right now on the routes. A lot of incompletions are thrown in the vicinity but always off by a a few yards I noticed so unsure who that can be on. Honestly I'm still just stunned by Bryce's calmness in the pocket, it's a very encouraging sign for me and one of the things that has me excited to just watch more of him. Took a shot deep and overshot Mingo by a yard or so, he's going to connect on these eventually. Just can't have two picks obviously.
-
He looked like a rookie today, I don’t think he has much help from his receivers right now. Their timing is off on the deep routes and I’m not sure who’s fault that is. I honestly liked a lot of what I saw from Bryce today but he and the team made too many mistakes today.

What? It's absolutely a factor. The heck do you think he did all of this for?
