I mean I said I expected this a few weeks ago. Oh well. We draft Arvell Reese and pair him with Brown create a top tier D

(Potential) 2026 GM Candidate List
MartyClemons replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean yeah because there’s upside. By year 3 we realize BY has limited upside. I felt like the point was pretty straightforward. If the expectation is for Canales or Morgan to win next year with their job on the line. I think it’s hard to target quarterbacks in the draft. Because very few rookies are good football players right away. It’s a position that needs some patience. If we’re going to look at QB, which I think we might be in a position to draft, I think we need be willing to have some patience that we’re probably going to not be very good that first year. -
(Potential) 2026 GM Candidate List
MartyClemons replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
My only question is going forward with QB. We have a shot at Ty Simpson, Moore, Sellers or whoever. As a franchise… and a fanbase are we ready to accept that our QB probably will struggle again next year. Cause Ward and Dart have been bad as rookies. The year before Daniel’s played great… but Williams, Maye struggled as rookies and we haven’t seen enough of Penix or JJ to really judge. I do think it’s an awkward spot to put your GM/HC on a make it or break it year and then expect them to roll out with a rookie QB -
Canales may or may not be the answer. I don’t think last year stuck with Young and an all time bad defense in terms of talent are enough to judge him. Even this year I felt like with Young as our QB and lack of talent I wasn’t sure what people expect. This could change a bit tho. Brown is obviously a beast. A’Shawn played well too. And if Scourton can provide a consistent pass rush I feel like our defense becomes a lot more formidable I’ll reserve judgement til after the season on him

I echoed most of what you said earlier this week. The only thing I will say in defense of Morgan… he seems to have nailed this draft. Tet and Scourton I think are legit. Ransom could be a real piece too.

With the 1st Pick in the 2026 Draft....
MartyClemons replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
We’ve consistently had one of the least talented rosters for a few years now. You would think having a lack of quality starters in our roster would lead to cap room and the ability to sign some at some point. Especially with a QB on a rookie contract. But outside of improving our OLine, we lack starters all over. Just a complete failure in free agency. I like what little I’ve seen of Dante Moore. If we move on from Evero Rueben Bain has dominated these first 4 games. Could do worse than him and Brown leading our DLine with Scourton/Princely as pass rushers -
This is not a good team. Idk what people expect. I’m on the fence whether Canales is a competent coach but I’m certain firing Canales won’t fix it this year

Why is everyone focused on BY while the real problem is ignored
MartyClemons replied to cranky's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nobody is ignoring it. It’s just we’ve invested all our resources into drafting Young, finding him weapons, and signing offensive linemen. We’ve had one of the least talented defenses in the league and an offense who keeps giving the ball away or going 3 and out. Whether Evero is a good coach or not…. He’s certainly more capable than what he’s shown here. -
Yeah… the top of the QB draft class isn’t looking great. Seems Sellers is at the top of most boards. But he’s completed 11 and 12 passes on his first two games. Idk if he is an nfl level passer. Maybe Nuss cuts back on some of the silly plays this year. It’s still early, Beck is off to a good start in Miami. Maybe Dante Moore at Oregon shows QB1 talent. So guys could emerge. But I also wouldn’t be mad if we ended up with an Anthony Hill, Bain/Faulk, or a Caleb Downs type on defense.

At least Jamarcus has the excuse of being high out his mind for his bad play
-
True. Look at the Colts. Brought Jones into compete with AR, Jones won the job and led them to an impressive win today.
-
This is true… but also signals that he can coach a competent defense with talent. Which we lack because we invested all of our resources into supporting Young. And today we gave up 26, but that included two picks and a lost fumble and two times we turned it over on downs. If we had a semi capable offense capable of sustaining drives and not giving terrible field position maybe our D looks okay

Hot Takes Immediately After the Game
MartyClemons replied to Admiral Ackbar's topic in Carolina Panthers
It pains me to say this but Morgan might need to go if some of these rookies don’t start flashing soon. look at our 2023 draft class and then our 2024. How many guys can we say are reliable starters? I didn’t love Scourton, Princely, or Etienne and felt Etienne was a reach. tho by doubling down pass rushers who fell in the draft I’m hopeful one pans out. But even great coaches need talent… and we don’t have much on either side of the ball right now. -
Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
MartyClemons replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was surefire top 5 pick prior to the season. They had a new coach and severely underperformed this season. Went from ranked 11th with multiple NFL prospects to 4-8. Fifita also regressed a ton with the new staff. I watched them early in the season and their whole offense was just throw the ball in Tet’s general direction and hope he gets it and makes a play. which is kinda why I think some of the separation stuff gets overblown. When your QB isn’t throwing with any anticipation and accuracy or is staring down one receiver you’re going to be making more contested catches -
He seems to be sticking to his board and stacking talent. Which is what great franchises like Pittsburgh and Baltimore have done. They picked Tet because they ranked him higher than the defensive players available. They took multiple edges because they felt like that’s where the value was. Princely was a guy who probably should’ve went R2. I think long run this will payoff. Stacking talent with playmakers and the front 7 after building the O-Line last year.
