  1. Texans are probably taking the top QB in 2023. They already have their QBs for this season and Lovie is their tank-mander. Lions likely don't see a QB worth taking at #2 and can take a flyer in the late 1st as they have pick #32 and pick #33 that they can package if someone they like falls. The Panther most likely take the top QB on their board at #6 with a fallback of taking an elite OT. The biggest risk is a team (such as Atlanta, Seattle, or New Orleans) trading in front of us if they really like someone they think we are gonna take.
  2. Can he kick FGs? Or is backup kicker still Zylstra's job?
  3. Agreed. The trade compensation seems a bit weak based on all the talk leading up to it.
  4. Depends on what you define as "winning" in this case.
  5. So, that's all it took to get Watson....money? lot and lots of money? Feels like we should have done better if that was his criteria.
  6. PLOT TWIST! This thing is better written than some major Hollywood movies.
  7. I don't disagree, but do you think Rhule is dying on the sword for that to happen? I don't hence the premise of the OP. Someone else is coming. So who should it be.
  8. I considered it, but I haven't seen any chatter that he is actually available for reasonable compensation; obviously they'll ship him off for 3 #1s.
  9. Matt Rhule (hot seat) and to some degree Fitterer & Tepper are NOT going to let Sam Darnold be the only option on the roster this season. So where does the other QB come from now that the Panthers have been formally kicked off the reality show that is "Waiting for Watson"? The Options The Competition My Thoughts If the team wants a veteran I'd prefer a vet over a trade. In FA I'd have some interest in Winston in the near-term although I think he's destined to be a Saint assuming Watson heads to the Falcons. I'd also have interest in Matt Ryan assuming he's a cap casualty, however I don't think he would sign with us over a place like Indy. The rest of the FA bunch can likely be signed closer to the draft if desired; my personal preference of the "high-end backups" is Dalton. As mentioned earlier I wouldn't trade for the remaining vets ... at least in the near term. Why burn assets for someone that isn't "the guy". Jimmy G is the most appealing option but has several red flags: He is coming back from surgery on his throwing shoulder. In the not too distant past, similar surgery led to lost seasons for Andrew Luck and Cam Newton. How good is he without a top 10 offensive coach? His price to acquire isn't going to be cheap as the Colts and likely the Brown are also bidding for his services. Ultimately, after seeing few good options in the veteran market, I think the most likely scenario is to draft a QB in the 1st. While this isn't great for Rhule it does inject "excitement" into our QB room which should appease Tepper. The downside to this is that likely means we'd take a QB at #6 since teams don't typically trade back AND take franchise QBs. With that said, I'd love it if we could trade back into the teens before taking the gamble on on of the rookie QBs.
  10. That was a fun distraction while it lasted.
  11. Welp, looks like we just added 3 1st round picks + extras back to the team.
  12. This obviously means the Packers are getting in on the Watson sweepstakes
  13. The whole series got old after episode 3. It could really use a new character to spice things up.
  14. Agreed. Texans aren't going to let us off the hook until the ink is dry. Our offer is too valuable in the negotiation.
  15. Hence the reason for needing a franchise QB. Media folks have a lot to keep track of and it's much easier to talk about teams with top QBs or teams that have won recently.
  16. DO NOT WANT. Jimmy won't be cheap to trade for and he isn't really that good. Baker would be cheaper. Or if you want to give up 1st rounders for a QB just go get Carr.
  17. Draft picks that should be high despite the presence of DW4.
  18. I do as well. There is some lazy journalism going on when the talking heads keep regurgitating "Saints give him the best chance to win". The Saints today are not the Saints of the past decade. It's just easier to rely on the crutch of "what have they done lately".
  19. Probably not too concerned. Doesn't seem like the kind of guy that will be able to play into his 40's.
  20. Colts just sitting back offering that 6th rounder and saying: "Take it or leave it"
  21. My Read: Texans want Panthers, Watson wants Falcons, Saints are the comprise.
