  1. I can see and agree with your point here but the money from restructures is a sunk cost. New money being less than average for a player of his quality was a win for the front office. Getting almost all of it guaranteed is a win for the player. The whole deal is just smart football. He is as healthy as any other vet high end tackle with a history of being on the field. There's plenty of risk but that is the case with every NFL contract. The pros greatly outweigh the cons with the only two cons I can see if the guaranteed money being high and he's not a spring chicken. Both valid worries but his ability, character, play on the field, salary, and not having to watch Bryce run for his life are worth those risks IMHO.
  2. Yeah, let's wait and pay the franchise tag next year of around 27 million and paint ourselves into a corner with no leverage if we wanted to extend him that 2nd year. I like signing him now for 22 per year for 2 years. That cheaper and smarter all the way around.
  3. We've been talking about contract. The contract wasn't stupid by any stretch. His play on the field since he signed it is proof. The trouble you're having is separating his contract and play on the field with the Panthers handling and trade of him afterwards. I 100% think it was dumb to trade him. I understand the thinking but I would still much rather have kept him.
  4. Ok, Jerry Jr. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45942521/dallas-cowboys-contract-mistakes-micah-parsons-dak-prescott-ceedee-lamb-cost-jerry-jones-millions
  5. Yes, 100%. You are a moron and I'm sorry that you are blind to it. Lane Johnson got $25M APY at age 33 (2 years older than Moton) Trent Williams restructured his deal at age 33 and is still elite Ronnie Stanley, DJ Humphries, Laremy Tunsil. You're comparing Brady to Moton like it's equal. Really? And quit lying. Moton just turned 31. He'll turn 33 two years from now at the start of the 2027-28 season. This was a smart and fair deal for both sides and is exactly the kind of move good GM's make.
  6. It worked out great for San Francisco and CMC. He earned every cent of that contract. Was in the running for league MVP, played in and nearly won a Super Bowl and got on the cover of Madden. Even with hindsight of these facts, the fact that you are trying to make a case that it was stupid to resign him is plain stupid on so many levels.
  7. Because the more you wait, the more the price goes up and it goes up fast. Ask Jerry Jones how waiting on Dak and Lamb and Parsons is working out for their salary cap. The guy basically said he has to ice down his knees after practice and quit dunking at the rec center and ya'll talk like he Hulk Hogan back from the dead for one more match. Keep ignoring the part of the same sentence where he says it's nothing that other linemen in the NFL don't deal with. Or the later article where he says, "NO KNEE PROBLEMS. THE KNEES ARE FEELING GOOD." We paid the man because he's still shown the ability to play at an elite level and the options in upcoming free agency for potential replacement. How quickly we forget the wasteland that was LT between Gross retiring and getting Icky. Byron Bell Michael Oher Mike Remmers Matt Kalil Chris Clark Dennis Daley Greg Little Russell Okung Trent Scott Michael Schofield Many times the cost of not resigning a player is more costly what you pay. We paid out the nose to have the oline be a strength of the team and because of an offhand comment you wanna open up RT to be a turn style for however long it may take to find another starter. Ya'll making Skip Bayless look like a member of Mensa.
  8. Damn, there are a lotta pearl clutchers in here. Virtually every player in the NFL that's been in the league more than a minute deals with chronic conditions they manage. This is a fuging contact sport.
  9. Despite how laid back Bryces personality is I have heard nothing except extremely positive review and comments from past coaches and teammates about how fantastic a leader he is. It is odd to hear that so often and forcefully when seeing Bryce so calm all the time.
  10. Even if XL said it, Davey Newton reported it so it is automatically sus.
  11. Steve Spurrier was the greatest preseason coach. Played his starters the whole game and kicked ass. I can't remember how many Superbowls he won.
  12. Tepper made two awful decisions in Rhule and Reich.
  13. NFL has a huge amount of parity. The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable. 2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.
  14. Who here didn't want Rhule and Reich fired? Blame Tep for hiring them but I'm glad he realized it was not working and investing more into their path as HC's was senseless. I think he was more than patient with coaches and GM's who were doing a horrible job. In many instances he overpaid by a large amount to get the people he's deemed will be successful or players his coaches wanted. Tepper ok'd some huge contracts based on his GM or Coach's opinion. Teddy 2 gloves (3yr @ 63 million with 40 guaranteed) because OC Joe Brady worked with him in NO and wanted him. The Bucs started looking at signing him causing us to give him a bloated contract to ensure we got him. Traded after 1 year. Traded a 2nd for Darnold and gave him his 5th year extension before he ever played a down for us. Rhule begged for Baker Mayfield and Tepper refused until we got him at a bargin and even with only paying 5-6 million for him, he sucked under that staff. Ben McDodo was behind the request for Ian Thomas's extension because he fit his offense. Never underestimate the lies or how stupid a coach on a short leash will be. Paid an insane amount of money for the dream team coaching staff lead by Reich. Reich was fired halfway through the season and the rest of the offensive coaches followed at the end of that year.
  15. Same thing I first thought but then I saw it was against Jacksonville and took about half a second of playing to know. I was at that game. I can't tell you my level of excitement when I saw it was Delhomme instead of Peete who came out for the 2nd half. Delhomme has and will probably always be my favorite Panther.
  16. We got 4 if you count Jared Allen. It's all an opinion piece and some of you didn't read the parameters under which they chose these players. Come on, confess. Who here read the whole article and who just scrolled through and looked at the pictures?
  17. Chuba gives me a chubbie.
  18. I know people like him and I do too but let's not overreact. He's a six round draft pick. Rub some dirt on it.
  19. Two years seems like a good window for his shelf life. Big need. Reasonable cost. I like it
  20. Nothing can beat the Charlotte observer comments section circa late 90's
  21. Two things I live for. Panther wins and Falcon f@$k ups.
  22. I have the same feeling now as I did right before the 2nd year of the John Fox era.
  23. If you include his present year, it's 45 million per year. That is pretty close to middle of the pack starter if you're looking at yearly average. Who else are you going to pay? What are the options? These guys are not paid in a vacuum. Who is their QB if they let Purdy walk. There are teams who haven't had the chance to pay a QB as good as Purdy for the last decade. If Bryce doesn't continue to ascend then the Panthers will be one of those those teams. Ya'll act like passing on a very good QB who fits the coaches system like a glove doesn't have serious repercussions. Who was the last really elite QB for the 49er's? Steve Young, a quarter of a century ago? Fans have some of the most unrealistic expectations that are completely devoid of reality.
  24. Option A: Pay your starting QB starting QB money. Option B: Look for a starting QB for 4-10 years (or longer) while wasting the talent at every other position. How many of the top 20 QB's do you think are worth what they are being paid? When you factor in the last year of his present deal his contract is really an average of 45 million per year which in today's QB market is a very, very good deal. I wish we'd had found a Brock Purdy to pay 50+ million a year right after we parted ways with Cam. Ya'll go ahead and live in fairy tale land where good to great (much less elite) QB's are available to pay. Just the fact that they had the chance to pay Brock after the disaster of trading up for Lance is a testament that when you find a quarter back you can win with, complete in the playoffs and superbowls with, you pay him.
