Top 5 draft targets for positions of need
strato replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t generally research these guys very hard anymore but I have seen some mocks where he would be long gone by 19. I think I saw people saying he was a very stout run defender, and would likely pick up a few sacks. No big numbers. -
I mean, it is pretty bad for Icky and we may still not be able to fix it. But yeah we could have the same problems with worse timing and it would be a lot harder on us. Another thing it does, if we had extended him that 15 or 16 million dollar cap hit from his 5th year option would then be in play to be reduced and now it can’t be. Even though I saw someone suggest they extend him anyway, that would be very irresponsible unless he somehow comes back and plays well this season. It looks like we will have to deal with his big money hit this year, but yeah we have $ flexibility on another signing that we didn’t have before.

I shudder to imagine the level of excuse making that we will see if Bryce falls off behind a degraded OL. I don’t know that he would be taking any heat at all from a lot of people. And to the article, it is slightly less critical to draft OL when you went out and spent what they did on FA guards. But yes it is time to get a plan going for the draft that includes supplying the OL with fresh blood.
-
It sure does. I can only find two little almost silver linings. And from his perspective they aren’t silver linings. He could have waited until camp to blow the tendon, or the first week or two of the year. At least we have a chance to adapt with the timing of it. The extension that was planned for won’t happen and we can repurpose that money. Where if the injury happened in camp or in season, that was already signed and we are mega fuged. But it sure does throw a monkey wrench into whatever they had planned.

Someone knows he needs help. That is why Bevell. But this is the same deal as it has been for three years, with or without Canales. I put most of the stagnant offense on the inability of the passing offense to force the defense to respect it. I have an opinion on what was at the root of that. You can do chicken or egg, OC or QB, with the reason for not going downfield much but we need to have that be a threat at any given time. If it isn’t we are gonna have the same type of results we have been getting. -
Top 5 draft targets for positions of need
strato replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep and that is why teams have different boards. I would refine the lower valued position limitation mentioned here to the bottom quarter or third of the first round. There are a lot of really good players at these low value positions taken from right around where we pick and later. All positions I guess. For us, some highlights Gamble @ 28 Beason @ 25 Kelvin Benjamin and DJ Moore went late too but man I’d be fine with trading aback a little and getting a Beason level player. -
Mike Kaye: LB Devin Lloyd could be a realistic possibility
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah. They do the same thing with OL, all OL positions are included and that is why Ravens can’t or won’t tag Linderbaum - 28mil for a C. And they could sign him but I think maybe his mindset for the last year is make them regret not having enough faith in him to pick up his 5th year. I am not sure we should pay a ILB 20 million either. I guess if there is a rookie next to him, you can rationalize it financially. -

Sounds good then. See that’s what paying 60 mil to your QB will do for you. -

I hear you but yeah like you say, above average. His numbers were good. You’d think it would be a no brainer. Anyhow… I guess the new staff is also fine with him walking? I hope if we sign him there isn’t some secret issue of his that led to him not being valued. -

Okay that is higher than I thought. The money has gone crazy. I was talking about the cost of his 5th year option probably not being that much. Which I guess just 12 months ago they declined. But that shouldn’t have been all that much. -

I feel like they will. One thing about Dan, he has been aggressive. -
Yeah. If you can’t get a Rams Wild Card level performance on a near weekly basis I don’t know why you keep doing it. There isn’t much there on those ‘off’ weeks. And then… is he really ‘off’ or that is the norm? With some shiny but unsustainable moments mixed in. We still don’t know.
-
Yeah that stood out. I couldn’t understand why they weren’t running behind the left side.
-
I believe getting a QB that needs that much help might not be the best plan. We better be looking. Seriously, we have a crisis brewing up front with this LOT thing. Plus C, and people are mocking TE in the first. That is the effect of the decision we keep sticking with. It is like there is only ever one thought: how can we help Bryce? For years now. The upside of obsessively building the O into a juggernaut is that a pretty meh QB could possibly win in it. I’ll leave it there because what would follow would derail poo.
-
That is true, but I cannot overlook what he has been given at QB. A question that is likely to never be answered: what plays would he call if he had a QB that isn’t so limited?
-
Well I guess there are it really a lot of us but is seemed like you were addressing the general population.

Carolina Panthers: 6.5 wins (Over -120 | Under +100)
strato replied to PootieNunu's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah but we are starting in the hole this time, with the offseason needs. I am trying to think of what major position we lost at the last minute in 2024 that dictated what they had to do. Little bit at a loss at RB with Brooks. We did lose Jewel but that was after we couldn’t address it. At least we know LOT ahead of time. But we were in the opposite position, getting a recent 1st rounder and major piece back with DB. This is flipped from last year. -
You think this is a lot of people being worked up?

Carolina Panthers: 6.5 wins (Over -120 | Under +100)
strato replied to PootieNunu's topic in Carolina Panthers
People are overlooking two things. They set the number to get the most action. Not to be accurate in their prediction. Though I am sure they have one. But the customer is the one doing the predicting. Also, we were pretty bad in a couple of those wins. I hope that I was right saying it shows they are learning how to win, at the time, but poo was pretty ugly offensively. What Luke said about the 5 or 6 games showing that Bryce ‘gets it’, I am not sure I agree that they showed that. A couple of games were good, yes, but there was enough ugly to go around. If you count the playoff game we were 2-3 after the bye and I guess we won going into it. Go back last 6 games of the season we were 2-4. The last 4 games we averaged 16 points. One win. You guys might slow your roll on that 3 game improvement and unless that QB can eliminate his numerous poor games, we won’t win more games than last year and could actually easily lose more. -
He can say “we” just as a fan. We sure do. I think all the ex players that went out on good terms say it when talking to each other. But he does work for the team, and will be slow to say something negative.
-
I have thought about that too. iI he can’t learn WR why can he learn TE? Same issues with the OB and the feet and the drops. I am figuring that just using him for a few specific plays he can run well, that can’t go but so far. People will know what’s coming when he checks in. He needs to put in the work to play WR and if he can’t then oh well too bad.

Not sure there is a ton of support for Nijman starting at LOT. I hope. I don’t know about picking top 5 off just that but it wouldn’t be anywhere close to ideal and would be an issue in most matchups.
