I don't have much issue with our approach at TE this off-season. We signed a mid-level FA and we drafted a 3rd round prospect. One was viewed as primarily a receiver and the other primarily a blocker. That's a decent investment in the position on one off-season.

Panthers are 3.5 point home underdogs to Saints.

I'm surprised the line is that close to be honest. That's a lot more respect than I thought we'd get.- 65 replies

I can imagine. That was quite the rollercoaster ride even watching it without a care in the world who actually won.

No doubt about that one. Helluva game.

Wow. Snead utterly blows it.

Meanwhile, Leatherwood looks like trash.

This is fair. Ricci may have come in too tight, but the bottom line is that Sam has to hold that ball in and not extend it until the FB clears. If he did, even if Ricci came in a little too tight it wouldn't have mattered at the end of the day. We run very little I formation and rarely field a FB so I'm sure we haven't practiced it much either, but at the end of the day, this is day one of QB 101 stuff we're talking about here - a simple handoff on a HB dive play with a FB lead blocker out of the I formation.

Hartsfield is hurt and Bouye is still suspended. Yeah, we're thin right now.

Like the old saying goes, there's no defense for a perfectly executed pass. Horn had great coverage on that play and Wilson threw a perfect pass. If it's slightly underthrown, Horn breaks it up or possibly picks it off. Slightly overthrown and it sails wide uncatchable. It had to be perfect and it was. That's just how it goes in the NFL sometimes.

Yep he's been inconsistent in the past but I thought he played well yesterday and agree that the improved physicality and tackling was a welcomed sight. Overall, the D had a great day yesterday. Yeah, Wilson made some plays but that dude has some special talent. We made him earn every single one of them whole almost completely shutting down their running game.

I barely noticed him which is generally a good thing for CBs. They're kinda like OL, you don't really notice them unless they make a spectacular play, be it spectacularly great or spectacularly bad. CBs honestly even more so because they're generally not going to be in the camera frame unless they're targeted. If they're not getting targeted then they're probably doing a good job covering.

Because he's coming off an injury plagued year and RBs have a long history of falling off a cliff at 1800 carries. We burn the CMC candle at both ends with his heavy use in the passing game. He already has over 1000 combined touches in barely over three seasons (52 games).

He seems like a great guy. I hope he develops into a good QB.

I agree that the primary improvements were on the defensive side of the ball which shouldn't be shocking given our considerable investments in the defense since Rhule was hired. I also agree that so far, the offense basically looks the same as last year with the same issues present with Darnold throwing the ball at a higher velocity than Teddy did. Hopefully as he settles in and gets more comfortable we'll see a more dynamic offense. The offense can't just be feed CMC and rely on the QB simply not to lose the game. There has to be more to it than that, particularly with the WRs we have.

Smitty spoke the truth on Darnold's play in the preseason. On TV, you saw nice short to medium completions but he was pointing out open guys deep and pointing out problems with ball placement on certain passes. We saw some of those same things yesterday. I liked his poise. I didn't see panic from him which is great. But there's still considerable work to be done.
-
We don't really need it. Sam stuck the ball into the FB's shoulder before he cleared. At some point, these guys might get tired of getting thrown under the bus covering for Darnold. The receivers were the problem all during camp and the joint practices. I don't think I've heard a single critical peep about Darnold from anyone in the organization.
-
He probably was, but the ball still shouldn't extend until the FB clears. That's the safety net.

You can take this stuff to the TB if you want, but you want last long at this rate in the main forum.

It's hard to get much dumber than calling someone the N word in an NFL locker room.
-
I meant that he is dumb because he has an extensive history of doing dumb stuff. That's why I didn't say he was dumb as in football intelligence. I meant plain old universally dumb.

Talent doesn't imply intelligence. Are you just here to troll?

A rundown of Jameis Winston being an idiot. https://fanbuzz.com/college-football/acc/florida-state/jameis-winston-crab-legs/

Fantasy football scoring is dumb if our D didn't score pretty damn well.
-
You're the only one talking about "football intelligence". I simply stated Jameis is brick dumb. He is. The off field stuff is relevant to that statement. Him constantly getting confused and throwing the football to the other team is too.

Vince Young scored a 6 on the Wonderlic. A fuging SIX.
