That's just not smart. Other than a handful of truly elite kickers in the league everyone else at the position is viewed as completely replaceable. They're obviously going to bring in other kickers and all it takes is for one to show a lot of promise for you to get told to hit the bricks and now you're just one of the guys being brought in somewhere else just hoping to win a job.

You can definitely judge individual talent. When the majority of your OL is just getting manhandled, your QB is floating ducks around, and your receivers can't get any separation against basic coverages you have a problem. We had a very obvious problem last preseason but most folks decided to delude themselves anyway.

Not for most of the Huddle. Hell, they were still convinced we were playing some type of 4D chess not showing our cards when we looked like the NFL equivalent of a JV team during preseason. When I was saying things like "our OL literally can't block the man in front of them" and "Bryce does not have a starting caliber NFL arm" and "our WRs can't get any separation" I was mocked for not understanding that preseason doesn't matter and we'll look like a completely different team once our brain trust starts game planning. Okay, we'll see. Well, we saw.

2023 was doomed from jump street. I kinda like having as close as we can get to an equal measuring stick to see if we look any better vs. the same point last year.

CBS does not think Bryce makes the leap
LinvilleGorge replied to Jackie Lee's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I'd take the guy who had a great rookie season over anyone who has never taken an NFL snap yet. -
It passed committee. It's not expected by most to pass the House much less the Senate. But all this gray area THC stuff is just complicating the market. Just legalize cannabis. There. Problem solved. The market for all this gray area THC stuff disappears immediately.

Yes, it is because they're not. One is an absolute. One isn't. The logic here isn't very complex. Nobody cares if you leave. Do or don't. The threats as if anyone cares is just pathetic. -

I don't know if you're being intentionally dense or if it just comes naturally but wow. -

Go back and read. I said I'm not completely writing him off. But yeah, at this point I'd honestly be borderline shocked if he works out. You're the one who acted like a condescending douche while failing at reading comprehension. Don't get butthurt about it. Ice up son. -

Did you figure that one out all by yourself? LOL -

Sure he can. He might just get to the point that he has to hire a Huddler at some point. I'll take that check. LOL -

All we can do is wait and see but I'll just say I anticipate we're gonna be talking about 2025 QB prospects pretty early on. We'll see. I just hope Tepper doesn't rage fire another coaching staff in the meantime. -

Talented players show flashes of that talent regardless of the overall surrounding situation. What I saw from Bryce last year told me that we should probably never expect a lift from him. He'll take us as far as the team around him can carry him. -

I'm not completely writing off Bryce but I'm 99% sure he just doesn't have the physical talent to succeed in the NFL. -
Exactly. I'd never argue our offensive pieces were good but I don't think they were nearly as atrocious as people make them out to be to make excuses for Bryce. What I saw was basically a bad NFL offense with a bad NFL OL and bad NFL WRs with a QB at the helm that looked like he lacked the prerequisite NFL talent. The end result was one of the worst overall offenses in modern NFL history.
-
All the talk in the off-season was how much better we were going to be. That only changed when we sucked then suddenly the overall offense actually looked quite a bit better that one game that the mere mention of horribly triggers some people.
-
If you're not playing you can't be considered bad. Aaron Rodgers didn't play either. I'm just saying I watch a LOT of NFL football and I can't recall anyone not named Jimmy Clausen who looked worse and I'm not just talking stats. I'm talking about judging talent. A guy can put up ugly stats and still show flashes of the prerequisite talent. That's what was disturbing about Clausen and Bryce. They just flat out didn't look like they had NFL QB talent.
-
A lot of those guys barely played as rookies.
-
Let's hear those dozen. Go for it.
-
I made it to "Jimmy Clausen and then Bryce Young as basically the worst rookie QBs since 2000..."

Caleb Williams is struggling big time in OTAs
LinvilleGorge replied to Lame Duck's topic in Carolina Panthers
Tyson Bagent honestly showed more promise than Bryce did in terms of raw talent. Yeah, he sucked but he showed as many flashes as Bryce did in far fewer snaps. -

This is the part that hasn't sunk into Bears fans. They're celebrating their massive win already when they're still sitting there with a completely unproven rookie QB when they could've had Stroud too. -

Their history at QB is In our brief, largely bad history we've had two QBs who are better than any they've ever had
