Official Panthers at Saints let's get this over with GameDay thread
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Now imagine that intrigue being derailed by a presser introducing Wilks as the head coach moving forward and him waxing poetically about how McAdoo and Darnold proved down the stretch that they are the answers on offense. McAdoo will be his OC and Darnold is signed to new three year deal to be our franchise QB. -
Having your franchise QB on the roster changes everything in terms of hope.

From a roster standpoint we're closer to being ready to compete than we have been for a long time. If you don't believe me, imagine Cam in his prime on this roster. What's your expectations? You expect to be a contender. We need a coach and a QB. Sticking with Wilks will just waste time and the opportunity of having multiple Young studs at key positions still on rookie contracts. Wilks ain't it. He stabilized the locker room and the players love him. Awesome. That was needed in moving on from the dumpster fire that was Matt Rhule. But from an Xs and Os standpoint? Significant issues. And don't forget, he's a defensive guy and the D got worse after he fired Phil Snow. Even more pointed, he's a secondary specialist and yet we couldn't adapt to Mike Evans simply running go routes to torch us. The improvements came on the offensive side of the ball where we focused on running the ball and not turning the ball over. Thrilling. Wilks was the right man for the task at hand. He's not the right man for the task ahead.

This would be stunning. One of the hottest candidates on the market is seemingly basically begging to coach the Panthers and Tepper is like...

Build stadium on the Vegas strip, one of the biggest tourist traps in the world and a place folks from Vegas generally avoid like the plague then complain about opposing fans. Oh and surrounding Vegas for 100+ miles in every direction is basically desolate desert. Not exactly gonna be fans day tripping it from elsewhere to catch a game. Putting a team in Vegas will likely be profitable. Tourists and convention goers will attend games just to attend an NFL game. But I don't think it's very conducive to building an actual thriving local fanbase. He doesn't actually give a fug. All the money is green and spends the same.

Thinking of moving from SoCal to Western Carolina
LinvilleGorge replied to GOAT's topic in Huddle Lounge
Best of luck with the kiddo. -
Being competitive tomorrow means Wilks might stay. We need to get our asses kicked. These things matter and it's why I actively root for us to lose as soon an it's evident that we're not contenders. That's the unfortunate reality of pro sports fandoms. If you're not a contender you're better off losing.

I like Wilks and I wish he was the answer but I just don't think he is. Please Saints, do us a massive favor and blast us by three TDs tomorrow.

Oh, we could definitely use another playmaker on the DL. We could use a better starter at WR opposite DJ. We could use better secondary depth. We could use help at LB. No such thing as a perfect roster. You're always going to have needs and spots you'd like to upgrade if the opportunity presents itself. But having young studs at pretty much all the key non-QB positions isn't a terrible place to be sitting. It opens up the possibility of going all in on a QB if the opportunity presents itself.

The D got worse after he fired Snow. No way to sugarcoat it.

If the Dolphins are dumb enough to fire him I'd be all over that. I'd definitely want clarification on how he handled the playing Tua situations but honestly that's more questions for the Dolphins' medical staff than it is the coach.
-
I don't think the Giants are dumb enough to do that. They're doing as much as they can with Daniel Jones level QB play.

Disappointing player of the year award?
LinvilleGorge replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I definitely don't think a player in his situation would ever consider tanking his play on purpose. I mean, there was virtually no market for him to get out of Cleveland. He couldn't afford for his stock to go down even more. Based on his play in L.A. and Darnolds okay here post-Rhule I honestly think Rhule needs to never have any input on an offense ever again. -

Tepper. The season was sunk when he didn't fire Rhule. Mayfield went to L.A. and looked a lot better immediately. Darnold looked a lot better post-Rhule. I'm basically giving the players a pass this year. -
This. If you take a swing there and land a franchise QB you got a massive steal. If he ends up being a decent backup it's still a pretty good pick. If he's an outright bust it still doesn't hurt you all that bad vs. typical 3rd round pick expectations. If you think there's a chance the guy is a starting QB the pick is well worth the risk.

Not saying there wasn't a lot of bullshit around that Kaepernick situation but also barely a month after he opted out of his 49ers contract... https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/source-kap-not-willing-take-broncos-current-pay-cut-offer I probably wouldn't even know about this had I not been living in CO at the time.

I think Carr will try to find him a much better landing spot than ATL. I wouldn't be surprised to see him suiting up for the Giants.
-
Super possible. I don't think they go into next season with Ridder penciled in at starter. Does that mean draft? FA? Trade? Who knows? But yeah, taking a QB in the 1st round is definitely very possible for them.

It's just never called so it might as well not exist. It'll be like the change in focus on illegal contact by the defense. Yeah, it was always there but if the flags don't fly then does it actually matter?
-
Yeah, blaming that kid is beyond dumb. I do think this incident will likely lead to rule changes regarding offensive players leading with the helmet though. But that's no reason to blame Tee Higgins for doing something that is a legal play under the current rules and happens dozens of times in every football game at every level.
