Round 6 Pick 189: Amaré Barno, EDGE, Virginia Tech
LinvilleGorge replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Intriguing pick. Crazy athlete. Good gamble at that point in the draft. If nothing else potentially an intriguing special teamer who could develop into more. -
It wouldn't shock me.

REPORT: Robby Anderson available for trade

Where there's a cap will there's a cap way. The Saints have proven it for years. -
REPORT: Robby Anderson available for trade

GB, KC, and Baltimore would all seem like good candidates to potentially trade for him and good situations for Robby too. Win all the way around. -
Round 2-3 predictions. Do the Panthers get a pick,?
LinvilleGorge replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't think we can afford to trade up for anything other than a QB. -
It's gonna have to be in the draft then. It's been well proven that decent vet QBs with the ability to hold some sway in their destination don't choose Carolina.
-
No. Why would they?

Looks like trash. Maybe London is the next Fitzgerald, but I think he's more likely to be considerably less. Penning seems like a decent pick there though.

Before noon weekday day drinking? Still over 8 hours before day two of the draft kicks off. Better pace yourself.
-
I'd be just fine forgetting about that.
-
Because there aren't many coaches with the chops to pull it off. Not many coaches can pull a Dean Smith and evolve from running the Four Corners offense to running your butt off in the shot clock era.
-
Makes a lot of sense.

I like former safeties at LB. Like I said, this is a cover and rush the passer league. You need to be one or the other at LB. The old school thumper LBs who are liabilities in coverage are being phased out. Same thing at safety. If you can't cover you can't play.
-
Absolutely agree. I don't have a ton of respect for the "muh system" type coaches. Any decent coach can win given a roster that fits his ideal philosophies. A great coach can tweak his systems and philosophies to fit his talent and that flexibility allows him to largely ignore scheme fits and simply focus on acquiring the best possible talent. Relying on ideal scheme fits just shoehorns you into bad spots.

7th in yardage and 5th in TDs without your All-Pro #1 WR is pretty damn good.
-
Agree. I could see a team like TB or Minnesota rolling the dice on him. Teams where he absolutely would not need to play right away and could comfortably sit and learn.
-
Yep.

I've got my eye on Asamoah in the 4th at LB. JoJo Domann is a sleeper I'm watching. He's a former safety who will be a LB in the NFL. What makes me most interested is that he actually plated almost exclusively as a nickel CB this year at Nebraska. H's 6'1" 230. This is a coverage and pass rushing league. LB size with that type of cover skills? Sign me up.

2004 7th in passing yardage 5th in TDs And Smitty broke his leg week one. The guy was pretty damn good before his elbow fell apart.
-
Jake was basically a more fiery Derek Carr. A borderline top 10 QB who allowed you to compete.
-
Different era of football and he really only had a handful of years before his elbow fell apart and he was a shadow of himself. He had his best season without Smitty. You can't call him overall trash because his arm fell apart. Same argument applies to Cam.
