  1. The Eli Manning deal comes to mind immediately, but yeah the whole draft and trade thing doesn't happen all that often. Those deals usually get made beforehand and they simply trade the pick. The Chargers just couldn't get the deal they wanted prior to the draft and Eli was refusing to play for them so they drafted him and squatted on his rights knowing full well they were trading him.
  2. How many SBs did we win with our history of great LB play? Positional value tells you everything. An elite talent at any position is certainly a nice asset to have, but teams aren't spending high end draft picks and paying top tier money for off the ball LBs for a reason. They've determined those assets are better spent elsewhere and that there's less drop off from great to good or good to serviceable at LB than most other positions when it comes to the overall performance of the unit.
  3. Yeah, hell they don't even have to be signed. You can trade away their draft rights.
  4. We have virtually no proven production at WR outside of over the hill Thielen and a young QB we've mortgaged the franchise on. I'm not moving any promising young WRs on cheap contracts for a bandaid LB on an expiring contract that we'll have to pay to keep if he plays well. The math don't math.
  5. If you understand cap I have no idea why you were crashing out to trade Coker on the dirt cheapest of NFL contracts for a LB on an expiring contract who the 2nd worst defense in the league chose to not pick up his 5th year option on. That makes no sense from a cap management perspective.
  6. That Basbear guy is gonna stroke out. LOL
  7. When you make the trade deal that we made for Bryce, you're making that deal because you're betting that he's one of those guys.
  8. I loudly didn't want either of them, now I'm stuck just hoping for the best and hoping to be proven wrong. At least both guys seem like they'll be fun to root for if they pan out.
  9. I'm all for healthy competition. Definitely not for a huge distraction from adding a guy with honestly marginal NFL talent. Risk/reward and all that.
  10. After our impotent DL play last year, that clip of Cam Jackson dump trucking an OL made my britches tighten.
  11. Highly likely a rumor driven by him being #4 on the initial depth chart. Just click bait for people who don't understand that these initial depth charts are completely irrelevant.
  12. If we wanted him, why not just draft him in the 5th? If he indeed hits the trade block, a rookie hitting the trade block in the preseason is about as glaring as red flags get.
  13. Post benching, Bryce averaged 2104 yards with 15 TDs and 6 INTs. Over 10 games that means he averaged 210ypg. Extrapolate those numbers to 17 games and that 3577 yards with 26 TDs and 10 INTs. That would've put Bryce #22 in the NFL in passing yardage, 10th in TDs, 17th in INTs. Basically middle of the pack. Yeah, for a #1 overall pick and hopefully franchise QB that needs to be floor type play, especially given our investments in the OL and receiver corps. We've built it, it's time for him to deliver.
  14. Keep in mind, depth charts this time of year mean literally nothing. The only concern of trying to make sure everyone gets listed. For instance, we definitely didn't give Tershawn Wharton a $45M contract to be a backup.
  15. Yeah, we flat out need more out of Bryce and the receivers, period. The "new and improved" Bryce post-benching needs to be his new floor not the ceiling. Chuba did his part last year. Granted we had no depth behind him to help carry the load. That didn't help.
  16. Question my character because I don't talk like a middle school kid? LOL! Okay.
  17. The 14 years old language. That's the part I didn't understand. Like ain't fair. Elite QBs in their prime have a very long leash. Aging kickers who are falling off hard don't. No one expected Watson to have a sip of that Cleveland water and turn to trash and then have his Achilles turn into a rubber band but I don't think anyone is exactly sad to see it either.
  18. We already have the league's go-to "oh poo we need a kicker" kicker on the roster. He's almost certainly the guy if Fitz doesn't get his poo together.
  19. Yeah, let's sign a creep who also looks to have fallen off a cliff on the field. Brilliant.
  20. Yeah, it's pretty much standard practice for anyone nursing a lower body injury to be held out of bad weather practices even if they would otherwise be out there. Sloppy footing just adds to the potential of reaggravation.
  21. This. The goal of the preseason isn't the score at the end of the game. The goal is for your starters and primary backups to get in work and look ready to go for the regular season. Which team's camp bodies end up playing better is almost entirely irrelevant and as teams are playing their starters less and less in the preseason it's going to probably get less and less relevant in terms of being a predictor for the regular season.
  22. The opposite is actually true. The correlation is pretty weak. The only strong correlation there is that if you completely suck in the preseason then you're highly likely to lose your week one game. After that the correlation drops to practically nil. https://www.rcharlie.com/blog/preseason/
