Look at the contracts handed out to them the last few years and ask yourself how can you build a complete team with the money left. You are seeing where this is going in the future. If you hit on qb you only have a few years to sound him with talent before you have to dedicate a large portion of your salary cap to 1 player. The rookie has about 2 years by my estimate before the Panthers have another 1st round pick to replace his ass if they are in the same situation as this year. If they have not made the nfcc game by then I doubt Reich and Fitterer are around to take the next swing.

Not really. Defensive minded head coaches are always focusing on the defense as that's their background. They think defense first and offense second so more emphasis is in building a great defense. They would be perfectly happy to win a game 2-0.
