Official Panthers Roster Cuts (Updated)
amcoolio replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would have kept Renfrow, he’s such a Bryce receiver and also I trust him more to return punts. I guess they just value the speed of Horn -
Panthers just need to sign whoever linebackers the Ravens, Eagles, Steelers, and Texans cut because they are likely all better than whatever we have behind Wallace and Rozeboom who should both be depth pieces anyway

Falcons with Major Offensive Line Injuries to Start the Season
amcoolio replied to Seltzer's topic in Carolina Panthers
Everyone in the media is irrationally high on the Falcons, I don't get it. -
Might be the worst group of linebackers I've seen in all my years watching the Panthers. I don't think anyone besides Wallace or Rozeboom makes another roster. Hopefully they find a gem with other teams cuts or trade a WR for one. Here's hoping Wallace turns into Beason overnight. One good thing about Hurney is he always made sure we had a strong front 7 and a strong ILB group that could tackle and cover. Ever since he left its been utterly crap.

I don't get trading him for a late round pick, which we have historically been very bad at making. The return will amount to be 0 and just trading your best receiver last year for nothing. Trade him for depth piece at corner or linebacker, which we desperately need. Vikings have a ton of depth.

Preseason Week 3 - vs. Pittsburgh (practice tweets, discussion, etc)

I don’t understand what defense they are trying to run. It’s like they are playing prevent and the game just started. -
Preseason Panthers v Texans official game day thread
amcoolio replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh, I'm not panicking on the offense yet, especially since both teams opposing beat writers said we looked good in joint practice. Everything we have run is very vanilla, and unfortunately it looks like Canales is one of those coaches who doesn't care about preseason games or effort, which is disappointing. Defense though, continues to look rough and that should be one area in preseason where you just go out and execute -
I’m glad to know my comment can spark days and pages of conversations I never said Bryce was the best QB, we are set, he is consistent. If you read the rest of my post I said the jury is still out and luckily we can decide after this year if he’s worth the contract or not. But stats aside, which I didn’t even remember or care nor are stats everything, he did show as much advanced passing skill - ball placement, timing, footwork, zip - as anyone we’ve ever seen here towards the end of the season. I don’t see how that’s debatable. I’m a huge Cam defender, and Cam showed great poise and accuracy especially in 15 and 17… Jake had a lot of downs with the ups even from game to game.. both Jake and Cam had great leadership and intangibles and both are better than Bryce.. I’m not belittling either of them by saying that Bryce’s passing skill in that Atlanta game was very very good. Now if he regresses and isn’t consistent, starts being bad in the pocket again… then that is that and we can draft a new QB next year. I think even the most ardent Bryce supporters know he is on shaky ground.

Bryce shown more advanced passing in his last 5 NFL games than Daniel Jones ever has in his entire career, college or pros. It was a stupid contract for that franchise to hand out, given what Daniel had shown, which is was just basic level passing combined with decent scramble ability. Look I was very down on Bryce last year too and the jury is certainly still out but he is being underrated at this point. The passing and offensive command he showed in week 18 against Atlanta was as good as any QB that has ever played for this franchise. Luckily Carolina will have their answer in either direction after this year and can make a decision.

Winners and Losers: Preseason Game 1
amcoolio replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
That defense....Evero might be in over his head. Players in wrong positions, missed tackles...that was very rough, all night long. I think the offense this year will be top 15, its going to be good and exciting and Bryce might be a star. But unless Brown and Jaycee play like DPOY's, there's no hope for that side of the ball. Tepper will pay big bucks for a defensive former head coach next offseason I assume. We also will have to pray to get a great ILB in the first round of the draft -
Hopefully Slater is okay, that would be brutal for the Chargers
-
I think its disingenuous to say that you know what Bryce is going to be. There is no way of knowing what Bryce (or any young QB) will be at this point. Goff was a massive bust that turned it around, as did Mayfield. Look at the massive drop off of Stroud from years 1 to 2. Richardson and Levis might not be in the league past this year and several people here were clamoring to take them. Caleb Williams is playing lost in camp again this year and was viewed as a generational prospect, and now Arch Manning might not even start. I think, in both the NBA and NFL, that college has completely stopped developing their kids and that has created a void of unpredictability in the draft over the past 5 years, and its only going to continue to get worse. College sports have completely eroded in the past decade, to the point where it might be better for the kids to go professional overseas or just not even play and train at sports academies before hitting the big leagues. I do know that Bryce flashed quite a bit of high-end QB traits in the 2nd half of 2024, so to say he will never be a star is kinda silly right now, there are probably outcomes where he actually does live up to his trade cost.

I feel like it will be the Bills, Patriots, Cardinals or Seahawks with a preference to trading to AFC
-
They are gonna want 2 firsts and we should NOT do that Maybe if the Panthers went 9-8 last year and Bryce was more solid and the defense was a player away but that's not us
-
Uh... Corey Brown was huge in our 2015 SB run. Made some monster playoff catches. TMJ, Gettis, Drew Carter, Mingo, Dwayne Jarrett, Ryne Robinson, Kealoha Pilares, Shi Smith, and Joe Adams could never be on Philly Brown's level

Three Panthers selected, one of which I think is very surprising, can't really argue with the rest. They seemed to base it on multi season heaters over single season https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/45042048/nfl-best-all-quarter-century-team-25-years-tom-brady-randy-moss-ray-lewis Spoilers in White below Julius Peppers at DE, Luke Kuechly at LB, Christian McCaffrey at RB
-
This board, me included, was beating the drums for both Humphrey and Frazier. I honestly think this board would draft better than the actual team after the first round, like if we had a consensus poll everytime we picked. Panthers wasting shitloads of money on scouting
-
If you start the season 6-0 and the offense is awesome and you are feeling good...maybe. Not a pre-season trade to make.
-
They are the highest they can be right now. I usually buy them a few weeks before or even gameday morning
-
I don't think you guys realize how huge having no short weeks is. No Thursday games. That's insane. Instantly makes us have one of the easiest schedules based on that alone
-
Hornets have had the worst luck of any professional sports franchise this century. Constantly drafting a slot below the generational talent, all because of the lottery done behind closed doors. It's been brutal and frankly unfair to be a diehard fan of this franchise, and I don't blame anyone for cutting out the stress.

Texas A&M Nic Scourton vs. Purdue Nic Scourton
amcoolio replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly I don't care if he isn't great at rushing the passer. NFL is going back to a running league and we need to stop the run. We have several players that love to attack the runner now, including two of our first 5 draft picks and the top FA safety we signed. Get back to tackling and smart football. I'll take a Thomas Davis linebacker over a Hasson Reddick one any day. -
Uh no, he is a longshot punt returner only

Round 4, Pick 20 (#122) - Lathan Ransom, SAF, Ohio State
amcoolio replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's pretty clear, with FA and this draft, the agenda is don't let anyone run on us, and leave it to Jaycee to bail us out in the passing game. Maybe they are sensing the league getting back to running the football. Panthers built the same way in the Cam years
