Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade
panthers55 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I won't edit it and see how many folks will comment about Matt versus Mac. Mac was the most proready QB of all of them and as I told everyone last year he would be steady if not spectacular. Too much is made of physical talent and not enough is made of mental talent and football knowledge. The other guys didn't play in a good system and struggled. And it will be a case by case analysis whether they improve or suck next year as to how much is increased talent around them, individual improvement or a combination of the two. -

Look, this staff is much improved and if we could win 9 games which honestly would be huge given our schedule, I would be excited no matter the head coach. If you would pay attention you could see the shift in the team players and staff. In order to stay, Rhule conceded a lot of control to others like Fitterer and Morgan in the front office and to previous head coach coordinators like Wilkes and McAdoo. He will be the rah rah system process guy and game day manager. The football game plan and adjustments at halftime go to experienced guys with lots of NFL experience. Snow seems smart and creative and now with Wilkes he has an innovative defensive mind controlling the back 7. Now the line can focus on the run and then the pass now that the secondary wont be a sieve. I am optimistic. -
Browns and Panther Fan Reactions to the Baker Mayfield Trade

Let's see how it goes. Too early to crown anyone or kick them to the curb. If we have a winning record this year with Baker you would be foolish to kick him to the curb in the offseason. You sign and trade him for a good pick or keep him and make Corral or perhaps another rookie we draft next year compete for the job. There aren't exactly tons of NFL starting QBs looking for a job. Or rookies that actually work out before year 2. -

Not necessarily. If we can get to 9 wins with Baker in his first year here we could continue to improve or if he continues the good year bad year scenario we have Corral waiting for his chance after sitting and learning for a year. That sounds great to me. And this idea that a rookie is held back by sitting is a very new one and not well founded. Look how bad all the rookies not named Matt Jones did last year. The norm is to play vets and let the rookies sit. Not the other way around. -

At this point average would be a big step forward. -
I am optimistic about Corral and think he will a chance to show what he can do. I like the fact we aren't rushing him along out of necessity. I like we brought in veteran competition for Darnold to start the season. We need to keep swinging for the fences until we get our man.

What's the reaction when the Browns sign Cam Newton?
panthers55 replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem with bringing in Cam is that he isn't a plug and play guy in any offense. He needs an offense designed around what he does best which is run. So unless he is a starter who you design the offense around (and those days may be over) he couldn't be a backup and adapt his game to whatever system the team is already running. So the best you could do is sign him to play in the redzone or on 3rd and 4th and short. -

If we get 9 wins this year I would be ecstatic. A winning season with this schedule would be outstanding. -
So you are saying he is right since Carrot Top always lies.

Baker is a better quarterback than folks want to admit. But he is inconsistent. But so are the Browns and so are the Panthers. Will he be better in Carolina. Hard to say but after going in the 1st round 4 years ago and then not having any teams really want you has to be a wakeup call and pretty humbling. We can only hope a new start mixed with being in a contract year will get the best out of him. Unless he and Sam play lights out, Corral will be the only QB here next year.
-
This was a high reward low cost possibility. Baker is not far removed from having a good year and he will have a good line and good weapons. With our passing scheme it should be qb friendly making Baker likely better than he would be in a different scheme. I didn't want the trade originally but now that it is done I am going to be his biggest fan. The 5th rounder and 5 million are inconsequential to the prospect that he can start for us and win games. If he ends up balling out he surely can help us and perhaps make up competitive again.

2022 Charlotte FC Game Thread
panthers55 replied to MillionDollarCam's topic in Charlotte Football Club
Gaines didn't have much choice and was getting closed off by 2 defenders most notably the one coming in from the middle. He couldn't go more left and there was no one to pass to so he took his shot. It took a good save to stop him. -

I agree. I know the philosophy is play guys consistently to build chemistry and I thought his header attempt was good but he is struggling to find the back of the net. Maybe pressing too hard. -

I would like to see Gaines on the wing. He and Reyna have the best moves and really create opportunities for themselves and others. Jozwiak missed some fairly easy finishes. -

If you listened to Fuchs interview after the change you can easily see that our first coach didn't have good relationships with the players, didn't ask for input, and was more about tactics and didn't want to develop everyone playing only the same guys each game. That is not what a new expansion team needed. The problem was hiring him to start with. I applaud them being willing to admit their mistake and making a change versus keeping him for appearance sake. After he got fired from his last job we should have never hired him. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.wcnc.com/video/sports/soccer/fuchs-gives-insight-on-coaching-change/275-db3d0a97-8d16-413a-9f19-c8a838ddc6d2&ved=2ahUKEwjgz6Kv1df4AhVcoWoFHUW9BqEQwqsBegQIBRAD&usg=AOvVaw1MwkPXp__uz_qWk-UKlPxy -

I was at the game and yes we booed but it was more about the result and terrible refereeing. No one has given up on the team or owner. There wasn't much to cheer about and it was pretty frustrating but for a Thursday it was almost full. I still lost my voice by the second half. -
Watson's people expecting a full season suspension
panthers55 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just read NFL is recommending an indefinite suspension of at least a year but possible more depending on where things progress. Now onto the NFLPA and judge who will make final ruling. -
Since the company that was formed to run the project went bankrupt the only way for contractors to get money is to claim that the company and Tepper are the same and by commingling funds it takes away the protection a corporation provides and therefore Tepper and the Panthers are on the hook to pay everyone since they arent protected making the bankruptcy moot.

Goodell works for the owners so he can be fired if he pisses too many owners off. It also takes 3/4 of the owners to remove an owner. I bet Goddell knows it won't get that many votes. Guys like Kraft won't be voting him out after what he did. And he was removed from day to day operations and fined 10,000,000.
-
Goodell can't remove Snyder unless 2/3rds of the owners agree to it. He also is likely limited on how long a suspension he can meet out. Like Tose and Richardson the commissioner can request they sell or relinquish control to avoid a nasty and public investigation but Goddell works for the owners and can't just do as he pleases. Richardson wasn't forced to sell. He chose to sell versus having a huge public investigation and have his reputation totally ruined.

Why can't they do this with NFL stadiums?
panthers55 replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
The atmosphere and the rabid fans are surely different but don't kid yourself, college football is all about the money and now that college players can get paid, it will even be more about the money. -
What went wrong? The Sam Darnold Experiment (Video)
panthers55 replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Given that I work with folks who have experienced trauma and have PTSD I think a player can learn to overcome their panic reactions and improve under pressure. They either have to learn how to reduce their stress reaction or become more successful while under stress by rehearsing various options and strategies. I have wondered how teams could use video simulation and biofeedback to work with someone like Darnold on pressure or with Anderson on holding onto balls. Most folks who have these issues don't seek help for them and often want quick solutions and a pill. But they are absolutely fixable and the benefits can be lifelong. -

panthers55 replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Can Darnold improve his panic response which is why he throws so many picks? I think he can. But you have to know what you need to do before you feel the adrenaline and cortisol. Sure he has some bone head throws when he is under little or no pressure but the 40% he is pressured is the huge reason he throws so many picks when he feels heat. And you have to be willing to dump it off and take the sure 5 yards instead of throwing a pick trying to squeeze it into double coverage. Know when to throw it away and when to run. A bunch of quick throws, dump offs and automatic reads will help both Darnold and Corral get used to playing in this system and should make them look better than they are. Of course ha ING a decent line might help as well. -
I am sure you aren't alone.

We are a QB away from contending. Hopefully we find him here or elsewhere. But the future is actually bright...
