Rhule was a defensive head coach. He got very defensive whenever criticized.

Let me caveat this by saying I don't think BY is the guy we want. That being said, if he does become that guy, it won't be flipping a switch. It will be gradual improvement (albeit with some setbacks) over the next few months and probably well into next year. And its going to require better play on the part of the guys catching the balls. The receivers (especially Legette) need to do a better job hanging on to the ball when he does make a good throw.

The constant changing of coaching staffs probably didn't help much.

I agree, you take the entire group and tailor the style to that groups talents. But if we couldn't figure out a way to use him, probably should have traded much earlier.

When it comes to picking personnel, I do believe that coaches should approach it one of two ways. Either build a system/style based on the abilities of your players, or get players that match the system you want to build. Our coaching staffs for the last 6 years followed neither pattern, especially with a guy like Chinn. Talented player who needed to be in a certain style of defense, and our multiple staffs couldn't adapt.

Build up the Dline, just like the Oline

Got to admit I didn't think the 2015 line was that great. It was good and the tackles were very good. But the DE's were certainly not on par with Rucker/Peppers. The strength of that defense were the linebackers and secondary. -
Well, that should do it. I do wonder if Daniels is still hurting. His passes have not looked sharp at all.

About two years ago, ATT installed fiber in my neighborhood. I stuck with Cable, but a lot of people moved to Fiber. Since that time, my connectivity has been great. Never have much of a problem with bandwidth or streaming.

Eagles up by two scores in the 4th and Washington can't throw the ball. Daniels playing against better defenses now that have plenty of film on him and struggling a little now. And as I say that, he throws a pick.

I am watching the game now, Amazon streaming is fantastic. The game itself reminds me of 70's football, before it became illegal to hit a receiver after the first five yards. Low scoring, lots of running the ball.

That is why I said fast and accurate. The two are related imo. If you are accurate but slow, you get hit a lot. If you are fast but inaccurate, you get a lot of misses and int's.

So we are at #10? With the tenth pick of the 2017 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select Patrick Mahomes. The top qb picked that year was Mitch Trubski. Miles Garrett was the number one overall pick that year and he has had a excellent career. Of course, Cleveland is still terrible. Building a winning franchise is not about who gets the highest picks. Its about who makes the best picks, and especially in the later rounds.

He has done ok at Colorado, his main advantage is bringing in talent. Which he has done well. But when Matt Rhule was hired here, a lot of people were upset because they said he could never win "the big one". Well Deion has definitely never won the big one. And due to a scheduling advantage, he hasn't played many of the big 12 best teams. In fact, only one of the top 5 teams, and he lost to them. Colorado's last three games are against teams with losing records. And he got blasted by Matt Rhule. Looks like he will have a shot at BYU at the end of the season, so that will be his chance.

I think we could do with one great one and one decent one. Think Mike Rucker and Julius Peppers. But the linebackers have to be upgraded as well. Trevin Wallace and Josey Jewell have done better than expected recently, but I think we need one or two more to go with them.
-
you might be right. Although the pitch from some schools and maybe a few NFL teams will be strong and lucrative. I agree with those who think he might go to FSU. I think he would do better there than the NFL. His name alone is a great recruiting tool.
-
I am somewhere in between the two of you in terms of my thoughts on the defense. I think we have some guys who would make decent to good backups or adequate starters. They need to add three or four talented players. A topflight defensive end, couple of linebackers and maybe one safety. That would turn this defense from subpar to top 10.
-
Yeah, but if Prescott is healthy, they still have a shot at being a playoff contender next year. If Deion becomes the coach, well he won't be playing Texas Tech.

I was thinking a match made in he!!

As someone who doesn't like the Cowboys, I hope and pray Sanders is hired to Coach them. It would be amusing to watch, especially if they draft his son. What happens if after 3 years, the Cowboys suck and Jerry needs to fire him? Would the qb be fired as well? Of course, if they are struggling, the fans might want both gone. It will be fun to watch them collapse.

Canales still not sold on Bryce?

I don't really care who is named the starter. While its interesting to some to discuss it on a message board, I doubt it matters much in terms of results. -
You are confusing smart strategic moves with tanking. Sending one or two high priced players away for draft picks isn't tanking. Tanking is trading or cutting all or most of your best players in the hope that your will have several great drafts and in a few years have a team of young great players. Its what the Dolphins did in 2019, and they still suck. Historically bad Dolphins and the trouble with tanking - Sports Illustrated

I am thrilled as anyone with the recent play. That being said, the Giants have the worst passing game in the NFL. My thought is we need Brown back and a good defensive end, as well as at least one good linebacker. I think Shaq may be done, and even if he isn't, might be time to get a guy who can replace him when he is done. And maybe another safety.

You are probably right, but as long as he goes to Dallas, and not here, it will be fun to watch. Or better yet, New Orleans.
