San Juan/Puerto Rico

Just scheduled a last minute trip with the wifey for our anniversary. We'll be staying in San Juan (Carolina) near Old San Juan. Anyone been? Any recommendations - food in particular but also sights and other recommendations would be appreciated. We're winging it and don't have much time for research.

The Castillos (fortresses) in Old San Juan are old military installations and cool to tour. Not too expensive if I remember right. At night, the Bioluminescent Bay is neat to experience - water that goes rainbow colors due to certain algae.

Also, if you feel like a short drive and are into science stuff Arecibo, the world's largest radio telescope, is in central Puerto Rico. That was cool to visit.

If you're into hiking, you can plan a little day trip to El Yunque National Rainforest.  They have a lot of trails for hiking and you can probably sign up for an excursion through your hotel.

At night, you can always go to the casinos.  Be wary though, San Juan's not the best place at night :)  My dad worked there for years and a lot of it is corrupted by gangs trying to smuggle drugs into the US.  You should be fine as long as you don't count cards or try to buy coke from some random dude.

    • Yeah if Im running 70 in a 65 and your in my backseat Im locking my cruise control there and if you dont get the message Ill drop to the posted speed limit. Im at or in excess of the posted speed and have no obligation to yield the lane.
    • I love Chubba.  Been a fan since I heard about his story when he was at Ok St.  and no doubt his production and progression is impressive, but this is my one nitpick - he was always touted for his speed, having come from a track background, so I am honestly surprised he doesn’t have more breakaway runs for TDs than what he has achieved thus far.  But to be fair, it often feels like he is constantly having to break tackles, so when he breaks the last one where it would just be nothing between him and the end zone, that usually took long enough that a defender from the opposite side of the field got an angle to catch up.  I really hope with the receiver additions, Bryce moving forward with confidence and proving that ending stretch last season wasn’t an aberration, and another year of synergy for the OL, Chubba is gonna have some wide open running this season.  He is definitely special.  Proud of him and happy he is getting rewarded for all his hard work…
