Hornets Are Interested In McDermott At #9?

Yeah i'd rather get a player with more upside then Wally.

At this point you could say anyone has more upside than Wally since Wally's career is over and these guys haven't started yet.  How many will reach what Wally accomplished?  I'd guess not many that will be picked in our range.

I don't want McDermott at all at 9. Maybe at 24 we can get a one trick bench shooter. But at 9 we should get a player who can be a 2 way player or at least do more then spot up shooting.

I don't see any ball handling skills you need to be a perimeters player or shot creation skills in McDermott. Then the defensive question come in. Give me anybody but McDermott and Harris.

Which isn't much. G-Force was a better player then Wally. I rather take a risk on a player who could be better then Wally in the top 10.

You're right, not everyone can be Zach LaVine, who scored a grand total of 7 points in 3 NCAA Tournament games on 3-for-15 shooting, and tallied a blistering 9 PPG in Pac 12 play while shooting under 40%. But hey, he can jump high.

We are talking about a freshman right??

Lavine has way more upside then McDermott and Harris. I take risk on that upside over a Wally or Kyle Korver type player.

This team isn't going to draft a guy you're going to have to wait 2-3 years on.  We did that already with Bismack and MKG.  They're going to bring in a guy (Harris, McDermott, Stauskas, Hairston, whoever) who can step in and contribute next year.  Or they're going to trade the pick(s) to acquire a veteran.  I'd be stunned if they picked a project player like LaVine or Gordon.

If they get a veteran like AA he would be the perfect pick. Plus I have serious doubt they trade the 9 th pick for a player straight up.

I agree with the AA situation, but how do we get AA without trading the pick? He's not a free agent, and I'm not sure what else the Magic would want that we have other than the #9 pick.

You have to match contracts in the NBA. Plus AA isn't worth a top 10 pick in this draft at 29 years old. Their is no way we trade a pick and a player for AA straight up.

Exactly.  So who do we have - that we'd be willing to part with - to acquire AA?  Orlando will want more than Henderson...who else do you throw in?  I don't see the team trading Al, Kemba, MKG, or Zeller, particularly to pick up a 30-year-old AA.  Bismack has no value.  I don't know see how we make that trade happen without using the pick.  And I agree that #9 is too much for AA, but I've seen people who believe differently.

They are moving 3 picks up to get a player they won't get at 12 plus a younger veteran in Hendo.

Let's not act like AA is Kobe. AA makes around 7 mil Hendo makes 6 million and some change. We do have some throw away contracts.

    • If you need someone to run your multi-billion dollar business, maaayyyybe don't hire a guy whose previous work experience includes repeated blows to the head and literal brain damage but IDK.
    • Extrapolate that with every QB for that matter. I guarantee you there's quite a bit of missed opportunities and yards left on the field for everyone. Many NFL QBs deal with WRs not putting in A+ effort, subpar o-line play and other deficiencies. The great ones are able to rise above these issues and create opportunities for plays. Guys like Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes can both play in and out of structure, as well as find ways to get yards when things break down and mask mistakes by throwing guys open, creating opportunities from nothing, etc. Bryce Young has only shown he's able to make things happen when the rest of the team picks up his slack. Very rarely does he create those opportunities himself. When this is a consistent pattern year after year with Bryce where he shows up lackluster, it's a concern. This is year three and he should be elevating the team as a first overall pick this franchise traded up for.  He was far from elevating anyone against JAX. In fact, he needed others to elevate and create for him. Excuses may be fine for a rookie, but this is year three for the first overall pick. Not looking good so far.
    • I think the worst issue is coaching. Countless bad snaps, XL not getting his feet in or trying on runs plays, our centre being down field when he didn't need to be. All seem to be from poor coaching for me. I believe Canales is to soft to rip the players a new one when the fug up. Plus I honestly believe that Canales is slow getting his plays in giving Bryce less time to diagnose and adjust to the defence. Don't worry I could of head butted Bryce for that fumble and the 4th down throw aways but the other plays are explainable to me
