Should we just save our cash?

I know most of us are excited to experience the rush one feels when their favorite teams signs a decent player they're familiar with.  I'm no different, but despite my impulse to want exciting roster news in the off season....is it really the best thing to do?

 

Right now the Hornets are in a rare and wonderful position.  Very rarely does a playoff team have have our current cap flexibility, young assets, and almost everyone returning. We have already improved our team from last year, and who knows what would have happened if Big Al was 100 percent.  We were outplaying the Heat until he got hurt.

 

I don't think being quick to burn our hard earned cap space on a player like Hayward or Parsons is the answer.  We might win 8 more games....we even might get the winless in the playoffs monkey off our back.  But we're not going to bring home the bacon with those moves.  

 

There has been a lot of discussion on this forum on as to how the Hornets can attract a star player.  After thinking about it I've decided that the patient route is the wiser approach.  If we can maintain our cap flexibility over the next few years and focus on the developing of the good talent we already have I believe we'll be great position to be a perennial playoff team and an attractive location for a superstar.  I believe we'll be a playoff team while we go through this process as well.

 

I've said earlier that I think Cho might be biding his time until Durant hits the market in two years.  Considering Cho drafted Durant in Seattle this might be our best shot at a big fish.   If Durant was a free agent today most likely we wouldn't even be a blip on the radar. 

 

But think about this.  In two years we'd be a team that has made the playoffs three consecutive seasons.  All of our young draft picks would still be very young, but very developed, and since we fought the impulse to overpay free agents to appease fans....we would still have a wealth of cash to sign a guy like Durant.  That combined with his previous relationship with Cho really does make it realistic.

OKC hates the Durant West combo. And we don't want KD here. Good player but not a killer.

 

I don't agree with that necessarily.  I don't completely disagree, but with a healthy front court they probably would have beaten the Spurs.

 

I think Durant is going to be determined to make amends for that mistake when he fell down at the end of that Spurs game.

If we can't land Melo or Lebron then offering someone a max contract isn't worth it.

I don't fully agree with this. I would give other players like(Harden, WestBrook, Curry) max deals as well. Just not some of the players mention around here (Parson, Hayward, or Stephenson) wouldn't give a max deal to.

I'm glad cho is in charge.

I've thought about this too, I mean aj and kemba are FAs after this year, so they will not be cheap either. If you cannt get a stephenson, haywood, or melo(lol). Maybe the best move is signing kemba & aj to friendly contracts or save the money for better options. But the horents want to win NOW. Rebrand and east being somewhat open, I understand. But spending money just cause you have it, is not smart business. Cho has backup plans if jordan doesn't get his star.

I think as we keep winning we'll be able to pay B players like B players and A player like A players.

      Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.

      I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football

      I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
