RALEIGH, NC – Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Drew MacIntyre on a one-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay MacIntyre $600,000 in the NHL or $250,000 in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the 2014-15 season, with a guarantee of at least $300,000.

“Drew had a strong season last year and provides veteran depth for our organization in net,” Francis said.

MacIntyre, 31, was 29-15-3 with a 2.53 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in 48 regular season games for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies in 2013-14. The Charlottetown, P.E.I., native also appeared in two NHL games for the Maple Leafs, going 0-1-0 with a 2.53 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. MacIntyre (6’1”, 190 lbs.) was 10-4 with a 2.08 goals-against average and .941 save percentage in 14 Calder Cup playoff games for the Marlies, helping Toronto reach the Western Conference Final before falling to eventual Calder Cup Champion Texas in seven games.

Detroit’s second selection, 121st overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, MacIntyre has played six NHL games with Vancouver, Buffalo and Toronto, registering a 2.41 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. He has appeared in 353 career AHL games, going 192-117-21 with a 2.43 goals-against average, and was named to the AHL’s Second All-Star Team in 2008-09 and 2007-08.

Meh. Another average body in net. We still don't have our starting goalie clearly defined. The man in net has to be confident that a bad game isn't going to result in him on the bench. He carries insecurity on the ice with him. It's a long season. We're already a year or two away from having a playoff team as it is. We don't need to repeat our sporadic goalie play like we did last year. Should have moved Ward when we had the chance. Then this guy would make a ton of sense as Doby's backup. Instead, he'll get shipped back and forth when Cam gets hurt (and he will) and split games with Doby, resulting in neither catching stride for long.

Maybe it's just my pessimism given how we've handled our goalie situation for 4 years now, but something has got to give at some point.

    • Those TDs passes you saw Sunday is what I think you will see bryce at his best. Those touch passes he can lob to receivers over the defenders heads. Long as receivers can get significant separation and bryce does overthrow those passes which we seem him do a lot. He is never gonna be a guy that can throw a laser into a receivers chest with a defender draped on him downfield unless its short pass or within a couple feet from the endzone.
    • If teams play us honestly and take that deep stuff away we may be able to operate good enough underneath to counter that. It is about time we started trying to force them to respect it.    But I think people should enjoy the win for two weeks because what’s in front of us doesn’t scream playoffs to me. It would be shocking if we swept TB. They aren’t Atlanta.  And even if we sweep there can be no let down.    I saw the stat of our record coming off a loss. Pretty good. What would it be coming off a win lol? Without looking, it has to at least be pretty upside down  (I count it to be 2-4).
    • Win the division from Bucs........BY implodes in the playoff worse than Delhomme and we finally get rid of BY as our QB. Get ready for 2026 with momentum for once.
